Ok - well my friend and I went to see this movie at the late showing (first bad idea)....We sat through the first 15 minutes and then walked out and saw Date Movie instead. lol

First, the "prologue" at the beginning was kinda cool....but then after that my friend and I couldn't understand or follow it at all! The dialogue was so boring and so foreign that we kept looking at each other like "WTF!" Sure I understand he was all about the vagina, but what he was talking about made no sense....maybe part of it was the theater had horrible sound - it was too low anyway. Anyway the overall feel of the movie was old and boring anyway - so we walked out before we fell asleep and felt like we wasted $7.

When I finally rent it, maybe I'll have some better reviews for this...lol

lol - well it was the LATE late movie so there was no way I could keep up with the dialogue...I couldn't understand what the hell they were talking about and the film was too old/grainy looking...i just knew if I didn't get out of there soon I'd be falling asleep...so Date Movie kept me up and laughing! :)

I'm on the fence about whether I should go see this movie. I'm on Spring Break next week and I have a 50$ gift card to the movie, so I'm going to go see Brokeback Mountain, Capote, and Transamerica. But I'm not sure if I should see this movie. I have a very low tolerance for movies anyway... But I love Johnny Depp.

A lot of men like Ebert and Siskel...or whoever that new guy is...like ripping Johnny's movies apart.

It's probably cuz they're jealous since he looks better than they do. :P

That's why he gets nominated for Oscars and never wins.

I saw some dumb-ass reviews of The Libertine in those free local papers that people throw on the sidewalk cuz they're trash anyway.

I can't wait to see this movie!!!!

Nope, I heard on the radio that PSH nudged him out of the list, but they might have just been joking...lol. I have a feeling though that Johnny Depp is gonna be the Susan Lucci of the Oscars, with all the amazing stuff he's coming out with, but without the awards. We'll see :) I'll still love him!

Well...u never know. They nominated him for Pirates of The Carribbean...so u never know. As long as he gets the recognition and all kinds of nominations..i am happy!! Besides....some say when someone wins younger in there career..it sometimes kills the chance of them picking up another Oscar. Look at Kate Winslet..she should have had one or two by now. Sissy Spacek only has ONE..and that is pure bullshit!! That women should have at least 3 by now!!

    • First, let me say I love reading all of your takes and thoughts. They always provide a different point of view... a breath of fresh air... in this sometimes stuffy topic.

You've inspired me to add my 2 cents about this product placement debacle.  I absolutely HATE the way they are doing product placement in BTG. I really hope this doesn't catch on or evolve into more and more of these moments. It's incredibly off-putting to place them in a highly dramatic moment where we are still on the emotional journey with the character. What is next - Dani spraying the house while having a nervous breakdown? It makes me not want to buy the product they're selling. LOL. That's just me.
    • I always get the vibe that Martin/Smitty have an emotional abusive relationship set up... but I doubt the show will really go there with that element given that Martin is a Dupree (and we can't have the Duprees be portrayed in a negative light), and because it's a gay male relationship.   Even though abuse in the physical or emotional sense is a huge thing in a lot of gay and lesbian relationships. The Ashley/Naomi scene reads off to me for one reason....  Ashley was talking about the new scandal without any sort of mention and/or subtext.. considering she knew both Silk Press Sheila and Eva.  I'm not sure if the writers have forgotten, if Jen Jacobs isn't able to play subtext, or what.   It's just apparent the writers do not know how to write a young white millennial couple.. and perhaps they need to get a younger white script writer to be on staff... or let the actors play around with the lines to make them more natural/realistic.
    • This is as good a time as any to point out that the 90 minute show was, what I like to call  "cockamamie idea" of Fred Silverman, head of NBC Daytime Programming. He did so well at ABC & CBS but not so NBC. We learned this from a WOST interview with Pete Lemay, 2006, can be found on YouTube, audio only. Now, to be clear, Rauch was completely behind it. Only Lemay fought against it & eventually quit over it.
    • She was so wonderful. Glad your handle has been a tribute to her.
    • Hopefully Alan has learned to not interrupt or interject with pointless information while someone is in the middle of telling a story. I almost think it would be better if Alan was a producer behind the scenes.. and he just had the actors on screen talking and asking one another questions.  Those interviews tend to work better.
    • It was only recently announced that Denise Alexander passed away on March 5, 2025. She was my all time favorite actress and role model. She will be dearly missed.  Denise Alexander, ‘General Hospital' and ‘Days of Our Lives' Actress, Dies at 85
    • Hopefully Alan will actually read the book beforehand.
