Having grown up with the Maori version of Maui, I'm actually kind of excited to see how he is depicted by Disney (and Dwayne Johnson of course). I am assuming Maui will be mainly based on the Hawaiian mythology (which is fair enough) though they may incorporate other traditions into the character.
