August 7, 201510 yr Member I don't know how that trailer didn't show up before, nevermind. Lee Daniels claims to be gearing up for a spinoff focusing on Cookie's past. Edited August 7, 201510 yr by Vee
August 7, 201510 yr Member Spoilers from TV Guide, including an interesting link to a past subplot: Don't expect jail - or a murder hit - to slow Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) down when Empire returns. After he finds himself locked up in the same prison as Frank Gathers, the man Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) testified against, he realizes that he's going to have to fight for his life if he ever wants the chance to wrest back control of Empire. Unfortunately for him, Gathers isn't the only one out to get him. Though Cookie wants Lucious out of jail, the last thing she wants is him back in charge. In order to protect herself against this, Cookie - along with Hakeem, Andre and Anika - begin plotting to remove Lucious as CEO by recruiting the hip-hop savvy venture capitalist Mimi Whiteman (Marisa Tomei) to their side. Of course it wouldn't be Empire without a few betrayals. So while the coup doesn't exactly go as planned, one Lyon uses it as an opportunity to let everyone else know who's really leading the pack. Also, Lee Daniels on the potential Cookie prequel show: After the panel, Daniels added to a huddle of reporters the series would explore Cookie’s upbringing in Philadelphia. “How did she get to where she’s at right now? Let’s go back and understand her mother. Let’s go back and understand her sisters. Let’s understand the makings of her. And that I know—because I know Cookie. … I’d be like a prequel. But I don’t think we’re there quite yet. I’ve got to work on Star.” And on his new show, Star: Star is Daniels’ other potential new series, which was officially announced today as a pilot order. Though not directly tied to Empire, the show is clearly inspired by the first show’s success. It’s a musical drama, only this time about three impoverished girls who moves to Atlanta to try and find success. The lead character—whose name is Star—is white, he told reporters, and another member of the group (her sister) is half black and the final member is black. “Star is white and she’s thrown into a world of blackness,” he said. “Where Empire was based on dynasty, Star is like TLC, Dreamgirls, The Supremes—that world. It’s that world meets Good Times. It’s the making of a girl group.” Edited August 7, 201510 yr by Vee this new board is [!@#$%^&*] impossible to work with
August 7, 201510 yr Member Star seems interesting enough. I wondering if the ratings does well is the Latin magazine going to complain about that.
August 11, 201510 yr Member Star seems interesting enough. I wondering if the ratings does well is the Latin magazine going to complain about that. I can honestly say I am not interested in Star. A white leading lady in a sea of blackness makes me feel some type of way. I think I will pass! Edited August 11, 201510 yr by ajsp35801
August 22, 201510 yr Member Becky is getting a love interest. He's dark skinned, some say ugly. It would have been nice to cast Beck mother. Edited August 22, 201510 yr by MoTheGreat
August 25, 201510 yr Member Mo McRae is cool, I like most of his guest gigs... my all-time favorite will be his interrogation room scene on Detroit 1-8-7. That was just genius.
August 28, 201510 yr Member Page Six is claiming Terrence Howard's role may be reduced due to his personal drama. I'm hoping it's an overblown report and only a temporary thing, as Lucious is almost certainly spending his first episodes locked up anyway and that's not new. Ilene Chaiken talks to TV Line.
