Members Khan
If it (a DID storyline) is rooted in established clinical fact and involves a character whom we've met only recently, then I'm fine with it. It's when you have [!@#$%^&*] like Tracy Quartermaine realizing she has an alter ego because daddy Edward used to visit her room at nights and do bad, bad things to her that I get pissed. (And yes, I realize Tracy doesn't have an alter ego or history of sexual abuse. I'm speaking hypothetically.)
Members Mr. Vixen
yeah, THAT would piss me off. But in Bobbie's case, it would make sense. A history of abuse, having to be a prostitute, remember that you were molested/rape...THAT'S the kind of stuff that makes DID plausible. And all but one of those things are an established part of her history, not a retcon.
Members Khan
No, it wouldn't. Bobbie's never exhibited any behavior even suggesting DID. To me, it'd be just another slap across the face on the part of the "writers."
Members SweetPea36
Tracy would be more apt to visit Edward's room than the other way around. She's much more of a perpetrator than a victim.
Members Mr. Vixen
That's true, but I'm saying if she developed it NOW in response to not wanting to remember her sexual abuse. It's plausible that her father might have sexually abused her. If she blocked it out all this time, developing an alter now wouldn't be that far fetched. RC would say she's a perpetrator NOW because she was a victim THEN. Don't give him any ideas.
Members Khan
Well, then, swap "Tracy" for "Steven Lars;" "Edward" for "Jeff" (or worse, "Steve"); and the same principle applies.
Members SweetPea36
We're writing a fanfic here, Khan.
Members frequentsoapfan
ITA, I hate these soap DID storylines to begin with they are always so contrived, the writers are so misinformed and they think everytime someone gets sexual abused it's an excuse for an alter to pop up. Members Khan
But is it even possible for someone to develop DID in mid-life? My understanding is, DID sufferers develop this disorder starting from early childhood.
Members SweetPea36
You mean it isn't? Horrors.
Members Mr. Vixen
I think he knows that, he just likes to bust my balls lmao. But in all honesty, I wouldn't go there with Bobbie. I would have her in denial/depression, with her leaning on Luke and maybe even Monica heavily. Once she accepted her sexual abuse, she would search and find her father to confront him. Then she would help to start a special wing at GH, and she would become a mentor to a young girl that she meets who is being abused by her stepdad. Bobbie would take the girl in and nurture her, forming a great relationship. Bobbie would team up with Ewan to help the girl come to terms with it, and Alexis to help the girl go to court against her stepdad. Then the girl, who is a little bit of a troublemaker, could enroll in nursing school and become this generation's Bobbie, of sorts.
Members Khan
I know, lol. Can I help it, though, if I want even the fanfic to be rooted in all kinds of truth and common sense?
Members SweetPea36
Where's the fun in that?
Members Mr. Vixen
Then what do you think about my Sonny fanfic, Khan? Since it would be a retcon of sorts.
Members frequentsoapfan
I like a good fanfic here and there. It's the only reason I've stayed with these shows to this point. There are some fans who are way better writers than these writers making 6 figures.
