With the Murder She Wrote TV movies comming out on DVD in February, i've been buying a few of the seasons and watching them again. There is something about the show that still appeals to me. I remember watching it with my grandmother and it's even better now because i'm older and when i see an episode i haven't seen before, i try to pick out the person who was is the murderer before Jessica solves it.

it's a show that ran for 12 seasons, starting in the mid 1980's and going into the mid 1990's. The only reason why it ended was because for the final season they moved it from it's comfortble sunday night time slot to Thursdays when it was up again Friends which was the most watched television show at the time. Angela Lansbury who played Jessica was furious about it. I guess at the end they tried to move it around and back to it's old night but by then it was done. The good thing was that the TV movies that ran from the late 1990's to the early 2000's were highly rated. I wish there would be another one but i don't think there will be.

Did anybody else watch it when it was "live" in the 80's or 90's. I actually think i watched it on Thurdays with my grandmother. but it could have been sundays. it was a good show where you would watch and then go to bed. it was "murder she wrote" but they didn't have any graffic murders and at the end you usually saw Jessica happily talking and laughing with someone.

I think I saw it on TV Land recently. I know it was on the hallmark movie channel for a long time.

I watched back in the 80s and 90s. I loved and still do love the show. I have all the seasons on DVB and already preordered the movie collection. The show is currently on TVLand at noon with back to back episodes. I have so many episodes that I love. I love the one with Angela as a courtroom juror....Michael Swan appears on that one and so does Vicki Lawerence. There are too many good ones to post them all here. I too try to guess who the killer is. I had forgotten most of the episodes except for the one I metioned above.

One of my favorites was "If it's thurdays it must be beverly" about the (day player) deputy's wife was murdered and you found out the guy had been sleeping with all the women in town (except Jessica.) then at the end when the last woman came forward Sherrif Tupper quietly said something like "Oh! even the Lord rested on the seventh day!" It has to be one of the funniest lines of the whole 12 seasons...for me.

I also liked the case of the last flight of the Dixie Dampsel. It was about the aircraft her husband Frank had been on back in the 1950's. you got to know a little bit about Jessica's past with frank. soap star Robin Strasser was in it so that made it even more fun.

I'm not too fond of the Irish episodes..she had a couple of those that I didnt care for. I really preferred her Cabot Cove ones over her New York episodes. I know it was tough coming up with material because CC was such a small town.

I didn't like the "book ends" that they did in the 6th season. I think they did a few in the 7th too but not as many. I watched the show for Jessica. I know Angela was tired but i thought it sucked when they would have Michael Haggerty or others do the whole episode.

I liked the cabot cove ones too because her house was so cute and the people were all a little off. I also liked how Doctor Seth and Amos were almost in competition over Jessica, espeically when Jessica was having dinner at her house with Seth and Amos would show up. It lost that when Amos left because Mort had a wife and only liked "Mrs. F" as someone friendly. but i did also like it when she went out, especially when they had fancy parties that she went to and you saw her in beutiful dresses. then in the final few seasons they gave her an apartment in New York. So they would have her abroad in one episode, Cabot Cove in another and then New York in another.

I did like Harry Mcgraw though. Jerry (RIP) and Angela worked very well together. She obviously liked him because she had him on the show on several occasions and he even was spun off to his own show for a breif time "The law and Harry Mcgraw" but it just didn't work without Jessica i guess.

    • The thought has crossed my mind. Tricia Mann-Grant did say in her EW interview w/ MVJ and DD, that Leslie wants to be a Dupree just as bad as she wants Eva to be. I believe now that's the direction they are going in, that maybe she is just obsessed with the family. I could be wrong though.
    • True. But I have always had mixed feelings about that twist. Since I love the Damian storyline which already had twists and turns. Also I could not wait for a new powerful AND BLACK businessman to mix it up at some point with Victor. It just seem like another twist that was added on for twist sake. And also for a character (whether I love him or not) to hijack a new and refreshing storyline so they can be propped.    Once good thing that I can say about JG is that he loves to keep the Abbotts in rotation. So I could see that happening with Diane. I don't think she has mentioned her backstory, either. I would be intrigued.
    • That's how I feel. Beats could have been played for the past couple months wherein Dante and Gio interacted and had a difference of opinion -- or something. I don't know. I do know that this crushing rant that blames everything on Gio is absurd. -- Reading over all the comments here about characters and couples, it's kind of amazing that we have any show left considering the number of times actors and writers and execs were given influence to make major character and story decisions. Too many cooks in the kitchen.
    • Lol. But Jeffrey was weak to mama. Leslie can go dead because anger is a great motivator via Martin defending HIS mama and just not taking ish altogether. This ain't how it should be. They need not run the show like this. It's too noticeable. The way Eva said mama reminded me of Penny from Good Times. Instead of physical abuse it's mental abuse.
    • Oh, I see! You posted this on the general retro soap thread because of the voiceover.
    • Yeah, I agree. It's part of the reason I have shade picked on Martin's Secret being so on the backburner that it was about to fall off of it. With Dani/Bill/Hayley being the main tale to start us off and backburned and the SilkPress storyline being well paced, but not set to explode until May, Martin's Secret was the other main storyline that could have been developed. And after giving it a nice slow burn to start off, the story upped and vanished in Month 2. That left the show having to rely on mostly B/C stories to stay afloat to various degrees of success.
    • I loved those scenes, lol. I thought I was watching a stage play. But I do hear what you're saying.
    • Jason47's episode summaries clarify everything. https://daytimeroyaltyonline.com/days-daily-summaries-1990-1999-t14806-s150.html The construction company is "AJ Construction" (AJ = Adrienne+Justin).   Jencon Oil was building an oil refinery at the construction site.  This was adjacent to the park. Kirk Geiger played the character Chad Webster. The character Chad was an actor in the movie being made.   The child friend with Shawn-Douglas is his cousin Andrew Donovan. A few episodes prior, Andrew and Shawn-Douglas were at the park playing hide-and-seek. They wandered off where they shouldn't have gone, by slipping through the gate onto the construction site.  Shawn-D fell into the hole at the oil refinery. There were several episodes of trying to rescue Shawn-D.  Finally Carly rescued Shawn-D, but he was discovered to be deaf.  Andrew felt bad, but Bo and Shane both understood that it was an accident.  Carly later taught Shawn-D sign language. Shawn-D was played by Scott Groff. Andrew was played by Bradley Michael Pierce. pics here: https://web.archive.org/web/20070404163013/http://www.childrenofsalem.com/days/kids/shawnandrew/shawnandrew.html Larger context here: https://web.archive.org/web/20080614054207/http://www.bethsdayspage.com/days/riverfrontraider.htmlhttps://web.archive.org/web/20080614054207/http://www.bethsdayspage.com/days/riverfrontraider.html
    • I had a situation last week where I could watch the new episode on Paramount Plus on my laptop, but it wasn't even listed on my TV as an option.
