A housemate on Brazil's version of Big Brother has been raped live on TV, it has been alleged.

Police today confirmed they had begun an investigation and carried out a search of the studios in Rio de Janeiro, where the popular reality show is being filmed.

Viewers were shocked in the early hours of Sunday to watch contestant Daniel Echaniz 31, apparently force himself on 23-year-old student Monique Amin, who had passed out drunk after a boozy party.

What an idiot this guy is! On a tv show where there are tons of cameras everywhere? Im disgusted and with the Brazilian producers. Even here in the US, they would shut the feeds down

You would think that with producer's or someone watching 24/7 that someone would have put a stop to it just about straight away.

From memory I think that the Turkey Slap guys were dealt with pretty quickly in BB Australia a few year back.

The producers should have stepped in. To not do so is inexcusable.

If your mother or sister or friend was raped, I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate a comment like the one you posted in this thread. So in respect to anybody who has somebody in their life who was raped your comment(s) were deleted. I was offended by your comments that's why my language was a little stronger originally.

I'm glad to know you find the event of rape sick but it doesn't really make your comment(s) on the topic any less startling and disturbing.

I have no problem if their is discussion on whether or not this or that can be called rape, but making callous comments on the subject of rape, murder, racism, sexism, etc is a no, no.
