Members Soaplovers
I saw it... it was very interesting and more like a ghost story. From what I hear, the movie was originally almost two hours and the filmmakers had to cut out a lot of scenes to fit into an alloted time allowed by MGM so it appears choppy. Overall it focuses more on Quentin then Baranbas.
Members DRW50
Jonathan Frid wanted nothing to do with Dark Shadows by this time. I saw this a long time ago and I wasn't really that interested at the time - I think I was more invested in what we weren't seeing than what we were. The Dark Shadows movie book had a list of some of the scenes that were cut. I can't remember all of them, but there was a picnic between Kate Jackson and David Selby, a longer version of the seance scene. There was a lot with Grayson Hall that was cut, which upset Sam Hall, as he had tried to write a real showcase for his wife. It just seemed fairly generic and typical for that era. They found the print, with no sound, about ten years ago. I hope it might be released at some point. I hope none of that has been forgotten because of the new movie. From what I've read about the movie so far it sounds like as big a piece of crap as anything Tim Burton squeezes out.
Members Chris B
Night of Dark Shadows was a fantastic film. Well cast, the atomosphere was perfect and although choppy due to the last minute cut, you can clearly see the greatness. I hate that it didn't work out and ended the series. I do love the fact that Barnabas wasn't in it. There was a specific reason Jonathan Frid didn't want to do it, but I can't remember. I think maybe he wanted to play a different character, something he eventually got with Bramwell Collins on the main show.
Members DRW50
The show was already ended by the time they started making the film.
