"No, really, they're better than you think!"

I disagree totally. Some people really are orphaned by society and are out there sinking and swimming all on their own. That definitely wasn't right for Alison, but I don't think every soap character needs to have a support system or family or whatever. The lack of a proper support system can lead to some very disastrous (aka soapy! interesting!) results.

You can still make mistakes even with a support system. It's better drama, because you can see their reactions. Andy Dixon screwed up for years and that was in spite of a very loving and large family.

Sandra starred in TWO 200 million movies in one year.

That's impressive for any actor (let alone a woman).

That's in addition to huge hits Miss Congeniality (comedy) & Speed (action) as well as impressive supporting dramatic roles in A Time To Kill & Crash (also both hits).

Sandra Bullock was amazing in Crash, her best role ever IMO.

Rachel was definitely popular but the only thing really iconic about the character was her hair.

Jennifer Aniston's claim to fame is marrying Brad Pitt and her boring hair.

Matthew Perry is another who just plays himself in every single role.

Absolutely, I don't deny that one bit. I think it depends on the story whether or not it's better drama, but it can be. I'm just saying that it doesn't always have to be an issue of how a person's actions affect the family. When the writing and the acting are all on point, a story about how a person's actions affect just that person can be extraordinary.

Love the Tom Degnan talk in this thread. I think he's pretty good personally. I think he's far better than Josh Kelly would have EVER been as Joey!
