Since when do they just randomly honor shows from the past for no particular occasion?

It's pretty obvious, isn't it? it's because it's host is ready to drop dead any day. We'll see about World Turns. Maybe NEXT year is the year they do a huge tribute, who knows. Maybe they don't want to bury the body until it's dead?
