Was Sean ever seen onscreen?

He shows up briefly after M*** comes to town. I assume it's so M*** can spew about his daddy issues and how that led to his own misspent youth and ghosting his family. *rme*

I'm not sure my opinion counts on this one. LOL   *sigh* poor Van, stuck raising another child.

Shows ignored plenty of actresses' pregnancies over the years. Unless Larkin knew he was going to be the loser in the latest Reva war, why wouldn't he gamble on a front-burner triangle? Kyle and Reva had an established fan base. Alan didn't have that.

You would THINK. But from some of the things that I've heard about Larkin, he seemed to want to be Number 1 in any story. With Long writing the story, Kyle was never going to be Number 1. Reva and Josh were always the end game.

By the way, I found a list of the Reardon siblings in order of birth on a GL Wiki:

Sean Reardon
James "Jim" Reardon
Maureen Reardon (deceased)
Anthony "Tony" Reardon
Lana Reardon
Nola Reardon
Chelsea Reardon

So according to this, Lana would have been the sibling between Tony and Nola.

That is right, and that is one of the reasons Larkin Malloy left the show. They informed him the writers were going to do a Kyle/Josh/Reva triangle, where Reva didn't know who the father was of her baby.

Malloy balked, as he had just done the same story (Reva/Kyle/Maeve triangle) and he wasn't keen on being the "third wheel" in a storyline, so he opted to leave.

Then again, Kyle was pretty much a replacement for both Alan and Josh, and the returns of Chris Bernau and Robert Newman made Larkin Malloy redundant.

How many real-life pregnancies were part of GL storylines in the 1980s? I know Kim Zimmer's two sons resulted in Reva giving birth to Marah and Shayne. Maeve Kinkead was pregnant in 1981 but Vanessa was not. I don't think Maeve Kinkead was pregnant in 1985 when Vanessa gave birth to Little Billy. I think one or both of Lisa Brown's pregnancies were part of Nola's storyline but I'm not certain on that.

Yes, I agree, he was definitely created to fill the gaps that were there after they left.

But I think the canvas could have supported two powerful millionaires. Especially after they spent SO much time connecting him to the Lewis family.

As @P.J. said, Reva and Kyle had a fan base. They were popular together. Having Josh come back, you then have the audience divided over who she should be with, which is a fantastic position for a soap to be in.

Who was begging for Alan and Reva to get together and stay together? I know I wasn't, and I sure don't remember them having a fan base clamoring for them to stay together.

Thanks! Everything is somewhere. I would've looked at soapcentral, but either they're down, or my computer refuses to go there anymore.

True enough about Long probably never going to write Kyle as number 1 with Josh around. Hell, how many women were #2 to Reva?

I hadn't really factored CB's return into Larkin's prospective pecking order.

I was trying to think of how many pregnancies were written in also. Both Maeve's first and Kathleen Cullen's weren't. Lisa Brown's first and Maeve's second in 1984 were. Both of Kim's must have been. In 1982, the girl who had played Lanie Marler's must have been, as she was shown pregnant when Jackie was visiting her shortly before her death. But the actress wasn't a contract character at the time.

I think Denise Pence was pregnant around that time, but her character was never pregnant.

Oh...Lenore Kasdorf's pregnancy was. She's actually pregnant during the Hall of Mirrors sequence. Someone subbed into the role when Rita miscarried after Roger kidnapped her and the cabin started on fire.

I wasn't a daily viewer, and there were long periods when I I didn't watch, but it seemed we went from Evie, Rita's unattractive and obnoxious little sister, as a forced character with the incredibly handsome Ben.

When Douglas Marland arrived the show got the new Jack Ubront theme. Evie barely had a line. I hated the character anyway but it was sad to see her last few days with minimal or no lines.

Evie was one of those characters you had to see her earlier stories to appreciate. (I would literally die to see her story with Jordan Clarke.) Evie hit her stride in the Ben story. I didn't find her as much annoying as very earnest and gentle. Then they didn't really know what to do with her, and after Rita left, she's just basically Jackie's talk to. There is a point where Vanessa is very irritated with Ross' attraction to her, which is kind of amazing to watch.

Wasn't Elvera Roussel's pregnancy written in?

Thanks. I have vague memories of this. The main memory I have of Sean is they dressed him straight out of 1975, presumably because they thought it would make him seem oily, but instead it just showed how dated large parts of GL felt around this time.

There's so much more they could have done with bringing in Sean Reardon beyond just wanting us to feel sorry for Matt. It would have been much more honest if he was a good man but also a selfish one, the two sides warring, similar to what Matt was intended to be. It would have done more to benefit Matt as a character - they always refused to inject nuance into Matt, to the point of not even wanting to admit that he sold ass for cash.

I also don't really believe Vanessa would have pushed Matt to try a relationship with Sean when he was visibly uncomfortable. Vanessa had smarter instincts and also respected her partners more. It took Sean being the oiliest cliche imaginable to her for her to see through him.

I did not hate Matt in of himself, but similar to Moniz's Dinah, he took away most of Vanessa's voice and presence.

I may be wrong but for some reason I thought she and Kathleen Cullen were pregnant around the same time.

I would have been in my teens then but I remember my grandmother referring to Elvira Roussel as Miss Piggy.

Looking back I believe there might have been some viewer backlash at the departure of Lenore Kasdorf. GL was kind of a dowdy soap back then except for Rita.

I also remember people saying Maureen Garrett wasn't pretty enough to play Holly after Lynn Deering. That changed when she was given a chance to act but I still remember the stark physical differences between Holly 1 and Holly2. I give wide-eyed Deering credit for at least trying to act like a rape victim but she wasn't much.
