GL: Frank Dicopoulos pitching ideas to save show

Scott Seymour as Billy Abbott on Y&R is the male Charity Rahmer, the one that makes you say WHERE THE HELL DID THEY FIND THIS PERSON... or WHO DID THEY BLOW TO GET THIS JOB.

Frankie D doesn't want to save GL. Frankie D wants to save Frankie D. and he should give it a rest. He's no more poised to be the saviour of this show than Ellen Wheeler, who I think he must be fingerbanging to keep his job (but nothing more than that because she's a good mormon girl.)

I think Wheeler's GL (and maybe a bit before) was a spin-off of the show we loved, and it tanked. No more spin-offs! Let the show rest in peace after being ravaged, impaled, murdered and skewered until unrecognizable even by dental records. Bury it, keep good memories in your heart and move on.

There was such dead wood on OLTL in 2001-2003, the first Al, Brandon Routh (how he got to be a big movie actor I'll never know), the guy who played River.

For jawdropping badness and/or being completely out of place, I would also add Marty West as Shayne Lewis. Shayne was increasingly flaming for so many years (which is fitting for Reva's son) I still couldn't quite get used to the idea of him being hetero when he returned to Springfield, but I do think Jeff Branson has been good in the role. I can imagine how MW's Shayne would have reacted to Jonathan.

The freaky kid playing River on OLTL was supposed to be either a tweaker or extremely organically ADHD; the word was that he spent all his free time on-set running around with a much younger Eddie Alderson (Matthew), playing video games and clowning around. Also, he cut his own hair, which, if you looked at it, said it all.

The first adult Al - well, I tried to champion him, because he looked reasonably like the prior Als. I was very upset when they hired meathead Nathaniel Marston to play a brooding, psycho Al, and I never cared for him in the role except when he was with Kathy Brier. But I had to admit Michael Tipps (Al #1) was awful.

Marty West was unbelievably gorgeous but a horrid actor, and flaming. It didn't help when people found the gay softcore porn site Conboy had clearly "discovered" him on.

I'm one of the few, apparently, but I also thought the most recent Chris Hughes on ATWT (there have to be like eighteen) was both bad and creepy, like a sexual predator.

Oh my God, someone even meaner then I am about Frankie...Ian my hat is off to you, though the image of Frankie finger f*cking Wheelie (about the good Mormon girl thing, ask Goutman's wife, I think she may have something to say about that..) will stay with me for years. I personally have felt that HE was paying GL to stay on, instead of the other way around.

Yes, Martina West wins the award for one of the worst actors ever on GL....though I never got his physical appeal either, though I do think when she started Crystal Hunt was neck and neck. The thing about her was, you could see her really, really trying..especially when she would work with JVD, MOL, or GA. I never saw that from Marty, he probablly right now is coasting on some old queens good graces in whatever he is doing now.

Oh, I forgot, the replcacement Alan Michael actor during McLaibson was really bad, and he didnt have an excuse that he was a kid either. I couldnt believe he actually got other jobs after being fired. Though, come to think of it, he is Frankie D's cousin so it runs in the family...the Barrymores can rest in their graves that the Dicopolous acting family pose no threat to their legacy!

i was reading that Guiding Light has been cancelled several times before. Two times for a period of months in the 1940's on the radio but it was brought back due to popular demand. I guess the difference about this cancellation is that the show is not at the top of the ratings. It would be interesting to see if it resurrects itself again or if it finally rests in peace.

    • Copying and pasting pasting this here as to not to derail the KL thread lol Wow I forgot CBS actually did try multiple attempts to come up with a soapy replacement for Knots on Thursday nights in the 10/9 slots for the 93-94 season.   Angel Falls had promise but CBS didn’t give it a fair chance. Latham’s Second Chances got even worse ratings than Angel Falls and wasn’t given a second chance when the Northridge quake destroyed the show’s sets. One West Waikiki looked gorgeous but was a blink you missed it affair. Finally we got Hotel Malibu, a quasi follow-up to Second Chances that stayed as the summer replacement series it was. CBS switched gears and had Chicago Hope air in the slot…against ER. It made the Top 30 but obviously underperformed below expectations. CBS gave up, and gave us 48 Hours for years there. It wasn’t until the 2002-03 season when CBS finally produced a Top 20 show for that spot with Without A Trace against an aging ER.
    • Of course I join in on wishing that Peacock & Corday & Sony would all together come to the conclusion that NOW would be a fine time to put some of these gems in the archive on full display!!! But, at the same time I'd like to give kudos to the fact that behind the scenes they've been doing the great work of preservation by taking tapes, etc. & converting them to modern digital formats. Besides the important fact of preserving them it means they are ready to go!

    • Bill and Hayley’s living room set should be redressed as their bedroom. We’ve not seen their gorgeous circular entry way set since the first week? Why not utilise that more and build them a living room off those double doors? The hotel room also doesn’t have a bed? Does only Dani have a bedroom?
    • as posted upthread, this interview was on that channel's youtube   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLraEMlqtTw
