TV Guide Magazine is reporting that Crystal Chappell is returning to Days and her role of Carly Manning. She starts taping in September.

CC Returns to Days

I'm an Otalia fan at GL and I will miss that pairing but I was a CC fan first. I loved her as Carly on Days so I'm excited about this news. I wonder how they will bring her back after such a long absence.

I honestly think we would of heard something about it moving elsewhere by now. She said in the article that they finish shooting in early August, which means scripts have to be written fairly soon for that time period.

TV Guide Magazine has announced that long-time soap veteran and Daytime Emmy winner Crystal Chappell is returning to "Days of Our Lives", the daytime drama that started her career. Chappell debuted on "Days" as Dr. Carly Manning on June 12, 1990 and would go on to appear in 577 episodes during her three-year-plus stay. In 1992, she appeared in more episodes of "Days" than anyone else. Her last appearance was on October 18, 1993 (episode # 7133). More than 4,000 episodes will have aired when she makes her return to "Days" this October, 2009. Chappell's supporting actress Daytime Emmy win came in 2002. She was then nominated again four years in a row, as supporting actress in 2005 and 2006 and as lead actress in 2007 and 2008. Chappell also won a Soap Opera Digest Award for hottest female in 1993.

While on "Days" during her first run, Carly was paired with Bo Brady (Peter Reckell and Robert Kelker-Kelly) during the years that his wife, Hope, was presumed dead. During her time on the show, it was learned that Carly's real name was Katerina Von Leuschner, and that she was the sister of Grandpa Shawn & Caroline's adopted son, Frankie Brady (whose birth name was Francois Von Leuschner). She was briefly married to Victor Kiriakis (John Aniston). In 1993, she learned that Nicholas Alamain (Erik von Detten) was her son whom she had presumed was dead. She ended up leaving town with Nicholas and Nicholas' father, Lawrence Alamain (Michael Sabatino), who was the Salem villain on "Days" during the DiMeras' absence in town. In real life, Chappell and co-star Sabatino began dating and eventually wed in 1997.

After leaving "Days", Chappell remained a mainstay on daytime television, appearing as Maggie Carpenter on "One Life to Live" from 1995-1997, and for the past ten years has appeared as Olivia Spencer Lewis on "Guiding Light." With GL's upcoming cancellation in September, Chappell became a free agent and decided to return to where her career started. Crystal Elizabeth Chappell, 43, was born on August 4, 1965 in Silver Spring, Maryland. Along with husband Michael Sabatino, they have two sons, Jacob (born in 2000) and Dylan (born in 2003). http://www.jason47.com

I've heard such mixed comments about Carly. I know many people loved her, but I've also heard she ate the show in the early 90s and some grew sick of her. I guess that probably won't happen now.

I love Crystal, and I think DAYS has improved lately, so I may be back as a regular viewer.

I hope they won't just go for a Bo/Hope/Carly triangle because Hope would almost have to win. I'm not sure who else would be there for her but there must be someone.

She was the main heroine on the show in the early 90's with Kristian Alfanso gone and Marlena not getting much story after her return. She was featured a lot during her stay with the show, but she and Reckell had great chemistry and she filled a certain void in Bo's life that no one since Hope could. I've never liked Bo and Billie, I think other than Hope/Kristian, Reckell's worked best with Chappell/Carly. But who knows if they'll share the same chemistry 16 years later.

Outside of Bo and Victor, Carly doesn't have ties to anyone else on the show.

Dude, she was the reason why I started watching DAYS. I was 11 and saw this incredibly hot woman on my tv screen, so of course I had to tune in. Luckily 'buried alived' happened and I got hooked on DAYS forever. :)

And I so called/wished this back in April. :D

I'm so happy for you, Toups. :) Just a year ago many wrote DAYS off but lately I'm thinking they may just be one of the few soaps in years to have a strong comeback.

Crystal's one of the sexiest women ever on soaps, it's so hard to describe, she just has that charisma and confidence, and she's so exotic, and her voice...you could go on and on.

Y&RWorldTurner, you're right about the ties to characters. I wish they could bring Vivian back. I'd love to see her again, that character made the show for me.
