Barbara Rodell (Lee, AW, several other soaps incl. ATWT) stopped by, joined my forum, and she has a new book out. Some about her time in soaps but seems to be more about her "inspirational personal journey". 

Constance Ford coming on strong to Warren Beatty in All Fall Down.

Given how many movies and quality TV shows she appeared in in the 50s and 60s, almost all of the great TV shows of the era, it's almost hard to believe that Connie Ford spent the last 25 years of her career on Another World.

I guess that as she got older the roles dried up. Maybe she preferred NY to LA, where all of primetime was centered. Also, was there a personal element- a partner based in NY?

I'd imagine that's a big reason. There was also a huge boon for actors in the '50s and '60s on TV that had started to fade by the time she joined AW.

I would guess she is one of the older actors Richard Bekins mentioned who told him to leave the show while he still could.

Due to some of the tapes that were lost, Ariana's AW material has jumped ahead to around the time Pat and John were splitting up over his affair with Barbara Weaver. Not 1977 - around spring 1976, I guess (someone will know closer to the right date). 

Such natural performances in this from the supporting characters (Marianne's soon to be ex, Daryll, and Michael's girlfriend, Glenda), which is something I am often surprised by on soaps as the years go by. It's too bad the show couldn't keep a few around.

I wonder if they ever tried paying homage to this on Another World. I guess there are scenes in the 80s of Ada and Nancy getting into it, but I don't think they ever had Ada slap one of her children like in this scene.  

Scene is from April 26, 1976. Surprised by the time jump but, considering how rare anything of Another World until 1979 is, even clips or a scene or two from an episode is a treasure.

It was a little odd because first Pat goes AWOL after Marianne's abortion so John (casually and innocently?) invites Barbara to dinner at Alice's. Liz is suspicious. Then John finds out that Barbara knew about the abortion and then that Pat and Michael knew. John up and leaves Pat. He starts seeing Barbara and complaining that Pat has never really loved him. Pat goes out with Dave Gilchrist. Barbara leaves town and Olive swoops in before Pat and John have divorced.

Jesus. And this was all from 77 to 79? 

And was Dave Gilchrist the one who was messing with Marianne and Pat?

This was all 1976, largely January and February. The havoc of 1977-79 is Olive. 

Greg Barnard is the guy Pat tried to protect Marianne from.

I don't recall the show ever doing anything that would have been what today we'd call an injoke or anything referential to other projects. I don't think other shows did either. 

Connie had careers in stages. One of the print images, still photo, was one of the most famous advertisements of that period of time. Then she did movies. Then she did prestige primetime shows. Then other primetime shows. Then Another World. 

I think she valued everything, a part of her work ethic. I would not be at all surprised if AW was her favorite.

I can't think of any callback to A Summer Place and of course Ada was a significantly different type from Helen Jorgenson. I would say that Ada's temper, when aroused, was hot, while Helen's was cold. I do remember Ada shouting at Nancy for making a mess of her life (and listing losing her virginity to Chris Chapin as possibly a worse crime than running up credit card debt and getting addicted to whatever Muffy was pushing) but no Xmas trees were harmed.

By the time I was watching Rachel had mellowed a great deal so I don't recall Ada taking her to task but Rachel at her worst was so far beyond anything Nancy ever imagined that if there were a daughter to berate it would have been early Rachel.

She also did a few other soap operas before Another World.  And she played the central character of one of them -- but I can't recall the title of that soap.  

After she joined AW, did Connie ever have another role in a film or a prime-time TV show?
