I found this episode where both Grant and Justine (posing as Rachel) are interested in buying the Huntington Mansion.

I don't remember the Chapin Estate ever being mentioned again post-Le Soleil. I do recall Chris Chapin's offscreen death was reported at some point.

Okay, then it was the Huntington Mansion connected to Justine. I was wrong. Thank you for sharing the episode and the information.

That's when Carl was going bad (had a brain tumor). Nancy called Rachel offcamera to tell her Chris had fallen from his apartment window or something. Richard Culliton tried to use history during his brief headwriting stint. I do wonder how many AW fans by that point even knew who Nancy or Chris were.

I thought Chris Chapin's death was such an odd thing to happen at that point. You want to show that Carl Hutchins has reverted to his former self, so you kill off someone who hasn't been on the show since, what, '85? HUH??

I was hoping you were right!

I take your point and yet I thought Chris Chapin was a choice that both didn't risk throwing away any useful future relationships while also being able to make a case that he had had a meaningful relationship to both the Corys and the Hutchinses. I don't know if there was another character that had been onscreen more recently who fit that bill and I preferred this use of Chris Chapin to the introduction of a total rando.

Poor Nancy -- Perry died, then Greg fell victim to the Sin Stalker, and then eventually Chris met his tragic fate.

Not that he had been around much more recently, or that it made much difference in the end, but I would have been livid if they had had Carl kill Peter.

AW should have been having its 50th and 60th anniversary celebrations. Miss the show so much!

1986 TV AD ~ ANOTHER WORLD SOAP OPERA Cecile Returns Itching for a Good Fight - Picture 1 of 1AWad_cecile2.jpg

It was a bit of a thrill when Cecile, who was dominating the show at the time, became part of NBC's "BE THERE!" advertising campaign in commercials. She was a major reason to tune in at the time - the pretty, scheming, bad girl you couldn't help but root for.

We even named a car after her. ( a four-door 1982 Honda Civic hatchback) And my younger sister found a blue version of that red dress with the embroidered bib Cecile wore so often. Her Cecile dress. She wore it to a cousin's wedding and some people recognized it

Was looking at this episode where Kathleen is researching her mother's death and she and Cass meet with a Mr Arley who was present when Mary went overboard. In fact he inadvertently provoked a fight with Reginald by pinching Mary and when she tried to intervene Reginald attacked her and she wound up going overboard. Kathleen seems to think that Mr Arley's story is something that they can use to prosecute Reginald but surely that info would have been part of the investigation at the time.

Marissa has followed Reginald to Bay City but it has not yet been officially revealed that she is Mary.

I don't know who the actor who plays Mr Arley is and there are no cast credits at the end of this episode. (I refrain from speculating that Reginald was inspired by the name Arley to name Marley, because that would be ridiculous.)

Mr. Arley (to Kathleen): "Tell me: do the men like to pinch you, too?"

Well, that's one way to say hello to someone you're meeting for the VERY FIRST TIME.

Seriously, even in 1986, you'd have to be a total perv to think that was an okay thing to say to a woman; and you'd have to be a saint not to respond to that with a knee to his groin.

I think we're definitely supposed to read Arley as creepy and the only thing keeping Kathleen from brutalizing him is the need to get information from him about her mother's death. I don't recall that they spent much time on the idea that Reginald's parties were so debauched though.

I wrote debauched and I meant debauched. Mind your own business, autocorrect
