I agree Donna.  Pete was brilliant, extremely arrogant, made some bad decisions that had a long term impact on Another World but seemed like a good man in general.

Paul was brilliant, extremely arrogant, made some bad decisions that had a long term impact on Another World, was a bully, should have been fired for harassment and probably should have been sued by a few actors, actresses and staff.

I was putting Rauch and Lemay in the same grouping because they worked together at the same time on the show. They are also known for not being exactly reliable about their contributions or versions about events on the show. Rauch's behaviour was much more egregious and disgusting, but Lemay could be cruel and dismissive of actors, and this is taking his own version of events as facts. I was also thinking about Ellen Holly tonight  when I wrote that post because I was watching a Family Feud episode where OLTL competed against GH on the show for charity. Ellen Holly was on there with Erika Slezak, Lee Patterson, Michael Storm, and a fifth person I can't recall at the moment.

I can totally see what you mean about Amanda & in fact she is quite spoiled. She could hardly not be with the way she grew up. Mac alone spoiled her. Not even counting anything from Rachel. Sam is just as you say. He really has a blind spot when it comes to the fact that the Corys have a lot of money. He always has.

Yes, Paul at OLTL was worse than he was at AW.

Great summary of both men.

In the vein of giving credit where its due, I will say one really good thing about Paul Rauch. At the time of his death he was actively putting together people who might have been able to provide a new venue for GL, which had just been canceled by CBS.

I see what you mean. They were a pair at AW also with Friends & Lovers which was later called For Richer, For Poorer. Not a spin-off but a crossover.

Paul's history (& also Joe Stuart) with Ellen Holly is truly appalling. And, then, of course, he was I guess you'd say abusive to Maeve Kincaid. And, I'm sure there were more.

In comparison Pete was a man with a giant ego & not much more than that. The ways he was difficult especially with actors was, as we know, a problem. But in the larger picture, he did a lot more good than bad. I fault him for the firing of Jacquie Courtney.

Wow....what a powerhouse of a scene. It explains the backstory of the characters without feeling like boring recapping. Rachel also gets her bitchy streak back! You can only wonder how much more of scenes like this we would have gotten had Lemay been allowed to stay.

I may have found the ALF reference, although it is just a mention of the title, no characters or storyline referenced and no clip or anything.

The neighbour played by Helen Sheridan caught a glimpse of ALF in the backyard and has come over in a panic saying she saw a monster.  When she says it looked like something from another world, her skeptical and unhelpful husband says "the soap opera?"

I did a little bit of searching to see if I could get a bead on the Hunter reference in Eddie's list and didn't find anything specific. However I did find this site which appears to have transcripts of dialogue from episodes of the show. I did not see any way to search inside the transcripts without opening each episode up individually and that is not something I am about to undertake in the foreseeable future, especially without knowing whether the actual phrase "Another World" is the string to search for.

Oh, yes, absolutely! Especially given how much trouble Rachel was for her mother, Ada. So, it is a kind of perfection that Rachel gets paid back both by Amanda & then later by Matthew. Although Matt was never the kind of problem child that Amanda really always was. Two of Matt's relationships were challenges for Rachel. One you know about already, Josie. Much later Matt has this amazing relationship that I don't want to spoil for you. So, mum's the word on that.

I don't know if you know this or not. But, if the scripts are pdf files, there is a pdf utility that lets you search multiple files at one time.

    • A little too much focus on Chad and Cat today but I enjoyed the episode. I have a feeling that Jennifer’s gonna get dumped on though, even though I think that her anger is completely understandable and justified. And honestly, Ron is finally gone; Abigail can come back now.  But, welcome back, Anna! It was nice seeing Carrie have scenes with her mother. Christie Clark and Leann Hunley have never really had that many scenes together and to see them have them now is really nice. I’m glad that both of them were there to comfort Marlena too. Their words were definitely the thing that Marlena needed to hear. Btw, with all this talk of Noah, does it mean that he’s gonna be introduced soon? Amy, revealing that John changed her flat tire many years ago seemed a little random though. I would rather she have said something about how everybody in Salem knows of John Black because of how he was always such a hero. But at the same time, her story also showed what a great guy John was.  I liked Kate’s scenes with Philip too, and her promise to get back at Xander for what he did. And since we didn’t see JPL in the bed, did he need some time off or something? And yeah, everything involving ‘One Stormy Night’ still seems very Ron-like to me.
    • The second photo featuring the late John Spencer is from the Law & Order episode, "Prescription For Death", which was the (second) pilot/first episode all the way back in 1990! He played the father of a daughter that had gone to the ER for a mere sore throat but ended up dead because the doctor on call was drunk and had given her medication that she had an adverse reaction to, after receiving some other medication. So, he will always have that great distinction in addition to The West Wing. (The first pilot, "Everybody's Favorite Bagman", was filmed in 1988! The show was offered to CBS, but they passed. In syndication, it is oddly placed as the sixth episode of Season 1. And Roy Thinnes played DA Alfred Wentworth there. When NBC picked up the show two years later, Thinnes declined to return, and that's how we got Steven Hill's DA Adam Schiff.)
    • exactly. I can understand schadenfreude if it were real, but a lot of this is just an engineered distraction.
    • Days of our Lives S60E204 – Thursday, June 5, 2025 Okay, today’s episode was kind of boring. It was nice seeing Jack and Jen back, but they wasted an entire episode on Jen chatting with Julie - one scene would’ve been enough. Also, why didn’t Jack and Jen go comfort Marlena? And wouldn’t a flashback with Jack, Jen, and John have been great? Maybe something from the Cruise of Deception era? Bottom line - it feels like once John’s memorial is over and the returning fan favorites leave Salem… the show’s going to be dull again.
    • Everything with Elon and Trump is a stunt. If people, and the sycophantic press, are talking about their "feud," they are not talking about Republican plans to gut Medicare, Medicaid, and the ACA.
    • I can't fully remember, but I don't think they tried to get Beth Chamberlin back. I think Laibson/McTavish likely saw Beth as old news and wanted to move Philip on; either that or have her return only when Philip was closely tied to a new woman. Thanks as always for these recaps. I think I had stopped watching around this time and mostly kept up by reading in the soap magazines. Bridget's degradation was horrible to watch, as the character had grown so much over the years and was clearly regressed just to be a foil for a "hot" couple viewers had zero investment in.
    • Having the majority of the cast on those low numbers is no way to tell story. And just 2 dayplayers for the month. So sad for the #1 soap.
    • I believe it was. And this is actually one of the cases where I wouldn’t mind some dumb soap opera bringing back from the dead. They gave Mishael, Amanda, with all of Hilary’s connections but none of the personality except for fleeting moments. Hilary absolutely should’ve just left town. They decided to kill her and the baby. Just baffling,
    • That was Mal Young right? He thought a tragic death was a better option than crafting a story where Hilary leaves town. Was it a case of punishing someone who wants to leave? And then they have to jump through hoops to bring the actress back.
