You know, I always agree that TV networks should cancel stuff with low ratings. It's business to them. And that's why I agree that magazines should put stuff on the cover that sell magazines.

But I guess I am just talking as a fan here and not thinking rationally :D

lol, i so get it.

dont get me wrong tho, it would have been fantastic to have a cover for it. even if it was just for the people who get it in the mail.

For those wondering why GL's cancellation didn't warrant more coverage on the SOD cover, it is on the SOW cover. I don't have the issue myself yet but you can see it on the SOD/SOW web site.

SOW Cover

my issue has the big pictures olivia/frank/natalia from GL. the three little bubbles are then sn/mbe, nia, michael/marcie.

i wonder why.

Sure. That is the reason why USUALLY they don't put GL and others on the cover.

But I really do think a cancelation should have been on the cover.

So, we should put Eli Stone on the cover of TV Guide? A cover story about a show nobody watches?

I understand what you're saying...totally, emotionally! I also think a GL cover might sell better, because this will draw out the long-term lapsed viewers--especially if (like SOW) they put Roger and Bert and Maureen etc on there.

But, from a business perspective, not putting a dying soap on the cover makes too much sense. Business is seldom compassionate.

But would you risk losing money if you ran a business? esp in this economy? I wouldnt have.

Besides the magz have been a joke for like a decade now.

I was rather shocked to see it get the newline at the top to be honest.

The subscriber cover does honor GL...

FYI, my SOD has GL's Olivia/Frank/Natalia on the cover....

... as you see. SOD has been doing separate subscriber/newstand covers for a while now.

Based on how Roxy's acted over the last year or so, I always assumed Rex's dad was going to turn out to be Mitch Laurence, but OLTL is probably done putting up with Roscoe Born's shenanigans.

i had NO idea. since when?

It's not weekly. But P&G soaps get more play on the subscriber covers. They must have market research that says Y&R sells the most newsstand copies, but a larger proportion of subscribers like P&G.

To my knowledge, SOW only goes with one cover.

This has been happening for at least a few years.

I'm glad that GL got the SOW cover.

This is what Lynn Leahey had to say about it.

"There is no agreement with CBS or Eric Braeden, or any show or any actor."

"We get sales figures for each issue, and this year Eric Braeden has sold very well for us. There have been years other shows have sold well above the average, and they have appeared on more covers. The enthusiasm for shows fluctuates, as I'm sure you know."

"[The cover is chosen like this]. If there is a big event coming up, like a big wedding or major character's death, we generally find out weeks in advance and book the cover. Otherwise, the decision is made closer to our press time, based on storylines/news that week."

"[some weeks subscribers receive a different cover than newsstands because s]ome shows are more popular with Digest subscribers than they are with newsstand readers, so we sometimes put those shows on subscriber covers to serve that need."

"...do remember that the cover story is usually just three pages, the rest of the magazine is as balanced among the shows as we can make it.
