Brenda never got an Emmy, as far as I know. She may have if she hadn't taken her own life while she was still on the show.

Susan Hayes wrote in her autobiography that she had a very bitter feud with Brenda during their time together on DAYS, that she was jealous of Brenda sharing screentime with Doug. I think she also said they'd made up before Brenda's death.

Brenda Benet never got an Emmy or any other awards that I know of or reported at IMDb.

She was terrific. Her best work to me was in the latter part of her tenure when Stefano came on the scene. She was so tormented by Renee finding out he was her father.

Or course at this time Brenda was going through her emotional crisis in real time - that led to her killing herself.

I felt she had great chemistry with Susan and Bill, but the rumors at the time were that Susan and Brenda did not get along at all. I think out of respect for Brenda that kind of got buried through the years but mags back then reported the troubles.

I felt Days did a classy thing in just letting Lee disappear, but I sure wanted to see the Stefano and Lee story play out. They had such great chemistry with one another.

I read her story at wikipedia. So tragic. It sounds dumb but she had a very beautiful voice and diction- i guess she also spoke 3 languages! Thanks for that link...

Lee quietly left town, leaving a letter for Renee that revealed her true paternity. After that,Lee was hardly mentioned, and there was no effort to locate her.

Bill Hayes wrote a touching tribute to brenda in SOD.I'll see if I can locate the issue and post some quotes.

This is the first time I've heard of her. How tragic... :(

Bill Bixby was said to had a hard time with the suicide. Out of respect Days chose to never have Lee die on the show. So her death and basically her disappearance were just never dealt with. Her character was just retired.

I think it is neat to a certain degree that no one has ever chosen to go back on that even after all these years.

Here is what Grace Noble wrote on Usenet on 12/10/2008:

This was provoked by a question about how Hunter Tylo must have felt, playing the death of a child onscreen.

It certainly had a negative effect on Brenda Benet when she was put in a similar situation back in 1982 on DOOL. The storyline called for her to cope with her on-screen daughter's (near) death after Jack Coleman, as the Salem Strangler, wrung her teenage kid's neck until she was in a coma.

The year before, Brenda's own son, Christopher, 6, died unexpectedly after contracting a viral infection while he and his mother were skiing near Lake Tahoe. The EMTs were forced to perform an emergency tracheotomy on the boy when his throat closed shut. He went into cardiac arrest in the ambulance and died before he got to the hospital. Nobody at DOOL asked her if this storyline was going to be hitting too close to home or be difficult for her to play, and she didn't say a word to TPTB because she believed it was her "duty" as an actress to do her job even though this dragged her further and further down into a deep depression she had already been struggling with since Christopher's death.

Of course there were other factors involved also. Her ex-husband, Bill Bixby, blamed her entirely for their son's death and (despite his sweet tv image) tormented her constantly, taking out his grief and anger on her. He was also furious that she had left him for another woman, and that relationship had just fallen apart a few weeks before. And on top of everything else, her best friend and confidante of the past few years was in the middle of moving the weekend when Brenda needed her most and for the first time in months they weren't in touch because her friend hadn't gotten a phone hooked up yet at the new house. Overwhelmed with everything, but especially after taping the scenes in which she thought her child was dead all that week, Brenda shot herself in the head and died instantly on April 7, 1982.

The fact that Brenda killed herself after acting out a storyline which miirored her own real-life tragedy reminds me of another similar happening. Ben Hendrickson played Hal Munson on ATWT. His mother and brother's deaths were said to have taken a toll on him. He had to act out a heartbreaking scene on ATWT where his character (Hal Munson) says good-bye to his dying daughter. Shortly after this scene, he killed himself.

Please do.

I'd love to see it too.

This woman seems to have led one hell of a life. Sadly, I can't even imagine what it must be like to have to act out a storyline that mirrors a horrific event in your life.
