Members Y&RWorldTurner
It deserved it, and considering there's no big stars in this film and this film almost didn't get released when Warner Brothers' independent studio folded last year, it's a true underdog turned front-runner story, thanks mainly to the folks at Fox Searchlight. The Globes love to kiss celebrity-ass, and I'm glad they recognized a small film like Slumdog Millionaire. A pretty predictable ceremony overall, but Kate Winslet's double wins did surprise me. I thought Revolutionary Road wasn't all that great, but it's about time Winslet's underrated acting got some notice. She's such a lovely woman, and her speeches were genuine. Administrator Toups Posted January 12, 2009 Author Administrator Share Posted January 12, 2009 I'm happy for Kate. I loved her last speech. She was like, "Leo, I've been in love you for the past 13 years and I love you with all my heart........oh and to my husband, thanks for directing the movie." Members Rakesh
LMAO. I loved it too! I was so happy to see Kate winning both Globes. Take that, Angelina! Speaking on Angelina, did you guys saw when her and Brad ditched an interview with Ryan Secreast? HILARIOUS!!! It was LIVE too. lol I'm glad Slumdog Millionaire won. I've heard nothing but good things about this movie. I haven't gotten a chance to watch it though. I wanted Leo to win best actor.
Members Adam
Not to many surprises last night except of course Kate Winslet's double win. I was so happy for her She's been worthy for so long. I think however this could be all Kate gets this season. Revolutionary Road aside from the GG has been virtually ignored by the critics awards.... Kate is being pushed for supporting for The Reader (a role that is obviously lead). I believe she will be nominated for The Reader and passed on in Revolutionary Road in favour of Sally Hawkins and quite possibly Angelina Jolie BECAUSE of the A Mighty Heart snub last year. And I am still reserving judgment until I see Rachel Getting Married, but my gut says Anne Hathaway has the more oscar worthy role. If Kate only gets the supporting actress nomination, I am predicting she will yet again go home without an oscar. Viola Davis' role in Doubt is the kind of role the academy loves and I believe they will give it to her ahead of Kate. Of course its all hypothesizing until the noms come out, but this is my fear and theory.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
Oscar voters can decide on their own which actors get into the Lead or Supporting categories. My hope is enough voters place Kate's performance in The Reader as a Lead performance. I think she has a better chance of winning for that film than for Revolutionary Road, regardless of her placement as Lead or Supporting. Oscar votes were due today at 5 PM, so I'm willing to bet that the Globe wins had little to no effect on voters.
Members bandbfan
I thought VD was amazing in Doubt. IMO, she really stood out in that big scene between her and Meryl Streep when they're walking to VD's character's job.
