Members Adam
GG always seem to rescue films in danger of falling out of the race, i.e Revolutionary Road and Benjamin Button. Not a bad list overall I suppose.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
Exactly what I expected, with the exception of Revolutionary Road landing 4 nominations. That film has been getting mixed to really horrible reviews, but the Golden Globes have always been seen as more of a popularity contest, in terms of getting top stars to appear on the main broadcast. Though, I'm surprised they only honoured Milk with one nomination.
Administrator Toups Posted December 11, 2008 Author Administrator Share Posted December 11, 2008 Of course I'll be rooting for my favorites, but the GG's aren't that big of a deal - it's the Oscars that matter. To quote Nikki Finke: http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/this...pe-free-zone-2/ I would say the GG's is "3rd prize" behind the Oscars and the SAGs. Members Y&RWorldTurner
The Golden Globes have always been the most fame-hungry and disgusting award show. It's always a popularity contest with the Hollywood Foreign Press, as I've said before. If you don't play nice with them, you won't get anything. How else would one explain Katharine Hepburn's 0 wins in 7 nominations, while she has the record for most Best Actress wins with 4 at the Oscars? Hepburn always hated the press and was a deeply private woman she shunned award ceremonies. Hell, she never once showed up to pick up her 4 Oscars. with Streep's two nominations today, she now is the most nominated actor in the history of the Golden Globes. She already has that distinction at the Oscars.
