When is the last time Kate Linder (Esther) had this much screentime? I'm really happy for her.

She always has that much airtime when something bigger is going on between Jill and Kay. Aside from that, she doesn't get much airtime.

Yay for Jill & Kay's numbers. Yay for the Abbotts! What a great month...

BTW, how were you able to do this sooo early?

It really was a wonderful month. ;)

The entire detailed recap from today's Canadian show was posted on the net.

I agree...I love seeing Jeanne and Jess and Kate up there so close to the top. I wish the list looked similar to this every month.

This is the IDEAL, PERFECT, FLAWLESS balance. I wish every month was like this.

And yay for Jess, Jeanne and Kate!

It was truly a great month, and this balanced list with the RIGHT PEOPLE in the top 10 proved that....

I disagree.

Davidson should be high up, but not number one.

Bergman and Case were on WAY too much.

LeBlanc's lack of screen time is criminal.

Bloom and Hendrickson appearing more than Khalil and Rikaart is ludicrous.

And don't even get me started on Sursok not appearing at all.

It might be the RIGHT people for you, but not for everyone. I am glad they are using the vets more but it is pitiful how much focus has been on the Newmans and the quad once again this year. Whatever one may think of actors like Christian Le Blanc or Tracey Bregman, they are veterans and fan favorites and deserve better.

It is ridiculous that for the year Christian Le Blanc has been on 60 fewer shows than the characters of Nikki, Victor, and Nick and Tracey Bregman has been on 80 eps less.

I get that they aren't part of this sweeps and I don't have a problem with that since the focus was on Katherine, the quad, and the Newmans. But for the year, that is a very poor use of talented emmy winners. Their episode numbers are way down from the past few years and have been falling every year since LML took over. Did they suddenly become useless hacks or are the writers not using all of their talent?

I agree good for Jess, Jeanne, and Kate because they deserve the story and screentime, but it was not perfect or flawless. I don't want the same characters dominating all year long. This is an ensemble and always worked best as one.

It is time for the Newmans to not be center stage twelve months a year and this is coming from someone who loved the Newmans but it is overkill. I need a break from them and the quad. Let some of them be on twice a week once there current storylines wrap and lets' focus on some other characters who are also fan favorites.

Did I say I was speaking for everyone?

The Newman's have hardly ever be backburned, which I guess has a lot to do with Eric Braeden, but I don't forsee them ever being put them on the backburner for an extended period of time.

Was there outrage when Michael was nothing but a supporting player up until 2004-5 or so? Honestly, that's the only time he's ever been a lead actor on the show. While I do agree he has talent, Michael's backstory has been botched by three different writing regimes. I no longer care to see him develope a "relationship" with his father, Gloria is beyond annoying and needs to written out, and don't get me started on Eden.

What more are they going to do with him? So much of what they've given the Michael character hasn't clicked, and adding Gloria into the mix doesn't help.

Since Tracey came back, outside of the relationship with Michael and the whole Sheila fiasco, she's never been an outright leading actress on the show either. Michael has traditionally been a supporting player too, so that's not new to me.

Obviously, Christian and Tracey aren't the only ones. Jess Walton can't get a stroryline for herself unless it involves Katherine. Jill was a leading character from almost the beginning of the show, I'd say that's a bigger shame. Kristoff St. John, who is also an Emmy winner and has been there for the same amount of time as LeBlanc pulled in the same amount of episodes this month than LeBlanc and less episodes the year overall than LeBlanc, again another shame. He's also given storylines that don't quite "click" and are featured once or twice a week.

This is an ensemble and always worked best as one.

The whole show doesn't revolve around one character. Yes, some characters are on more than others, but as the epsiode counts show, the the top 10 players in November were close in the amount of episode counts they had.

We all want our "favourites" on, but for me, as long as stories on the frontburner are satisfying me for the most part, I have nothing to complain about. Some stories will always be better than others, but I did enjoy a lot of what I PERSONALLY saw in November.

For Michael, I've always said the worst thing they ever did was give Michael a backstory, when he survived for years on the show WITHOUT one. The same backstory would lead to Gloria and Kevin overpowering Michael's presence on the show.

And I hope we never get a backstory for Phyllis either. I don't care to see her family, she's on enough, and I don't need a relative of her's driving storyline after storyline.

KEEP IT UP!

I couldn't agree more.

Since someone asked about Esther's airtime: I would go that far that it was her busiest month ever. She was basically in any episode with Jeanne Cooper and 12 episodes is a lot on Y&R where the is cast balance. I checked my episode count archive and the highest number of appaerabce I ever had for Kate Linder was 8 in a single month. Maybe she was on more during the original Marge/Kay story with Norm but I couldn't see any other period in 28 years of her Y&R stint where she was feautured more. And before I forget, Kate Linder was great last month!

No and normally I would not have remarked on that. I guess I inferred that your statement about the RIGHT people getting the airtime meant that the other actors did not deserve it because they were not the right ones. They were right for you and many others. I feel some of the right ones are not being used.

The Newman's have hardly ever be backburned, which I guess has a lot to do with Eric Braeden, but I don't forsee them ever being put them on the backburner for an extended period of time.

I realize they will always be frontburner, but my point is they can be on two or three times a week for a month or so to give other characters some screen time.

No, but he was elevated to lead and won two lead actor emmys. He was given a family, matched up with a legacy character in Lauren, and given a big splashy wedding. That changed the way we looked at Christian and Michael. He has also been on the show thirteen years, so why can't he be lead once in awhile along with Eric, Peter and Josh. I don't want him to dominate story. I just want this character to be used to his potential and not just used as a prop for other characters. You get no argument about Eden and Gloria. In fact, I think Gloria has really hurt the characters of Michael and Lauren. The writers have made her the center of the family.

As for the writers, they haven't written Michael or Lauren their own story since the Sheila/Phyllis story that while not a critical success, also brought Y & R their highest ratings under LML. The ratings were also high for Fen's birth and follow up which did coincide with the Carmen story. I don't credit them for raising ratings, but it does show that they can carry ratings when the story is decent. It also earned Tracey Bregman her emmy nomination last year. I don't think the characters of Michael and Lauren should be punished because the writers have botched their limited story. Christian and Tracey are too good to be wasted as mere props to other characters. Look at the story when Kevin first came on. That was a terrific story and won Christian is first emmy.

What more are they going to do with him? So much of what they've given the Michael character hasn't clicked, and adding Gloria into the mix doesn't help.

They can think of story after story for Victor, Nikki, Jack and Phyllis but for some reason can't find a story for Michael? I don't buy that. Michael is such a layered and complicated character. They could easily write for him. It is not a matter of them not being able to write for him. It is a matter of them choosing not to write for him as nothing but a prop for their favorite characters, especially Gloria, Phyllis and Victor.

Since Tracey came back, outside of the relationship with Michael and the whole Sheila fiasco, she's never been an outright leading actress on the show either. Michael has traditionally been a supporting player too, so that's not new to me.

I am not asking for her to be a lead. I am asking for her to be more than just a "talk to character". She plays a legacy character who has been loyal to both Bell shows for over 25 years. She has been nominated for supporting actress two of the past three years so her peers on the show and the industry recognize her talent. She is being wasted.

Yes, I would like to see Jess and Kristoff get more story but they have had story. Jess has the rivalry with Katherine, the business story at Jabot, the rivalry with Nikki and Jack. She had the brief love story with Ji Minh and now has her two sons as rivals to deal with. Marina has made a real effort to give her far more story this year. Kristoff is underused but again he received story from finding out Lily was not his biological child to the almost Carmen affair, Devon's arrest and hearing loss and the potential trial for the murder of Carmen, Dru's death, flirting with his alcoholism, romance with Karen and now it looks like a triangle with Karen and Tyra.

What has Christian been given except as lawyer to everyone and as a prop to other characters?. This father story was started two years ago, put on backburner and then within weeks became yet another Gloria story. And I agree it was poorly written. Is that his fault? And of ocurse he is back to being Victor's lackey and I am sure when Phyllis' life implodes, her shoulder to cry on. His last story was the brief stories involving the birth of Fen and Sheila/Phyllis story which went from Oct 06 to Feb 2007. Since his wedding three years ago he hasn't had his own story and neither has Lauren. They were favorites of Jack Smith and it feels like they are being punished for that.

The whole show doesn't revolve around one character. Yes, some characters are on more than others, but as the epsiode counts show, the the top 10 players in November were close in the amount of episode counts they had.

I agree Maria and Hogan are doing much better with balance and the veterans. I just don't think they are doing well with my personal favorites, Lauren and Michael, and haven't this past year. I just want them to get a little of what most of the other characters are getting.

We all want our "favourites" on, but for me, as long as stories on the frontburner are satisfying me for the most part, I have nothing to complain about. Some stories will always be better than others, but I did enjoy a lot of what I PERSONALLY saw in November.

I agree to a point as I did enjoy the stories this month, but it is more satisfying for me when my favorites get story. And they have been completely wasted since Marina took over last December which has been a big disappointment to me. I had hoped that she would value them more than LML did, but she uses them even less than LML. I don't expect Michael and Lauren to be lead all of a sudden or to get prime story. All I am asking for is them to get some story, some romance. I want them to be more than mere props to other characters and have scenes that are beyond them talking on the couch over coffee or tea once every few weeks. I want Michael to be more than a mere prop to others. They are being wasted and I think if Marina adds them into her mix, the show will get even better. Is that really too much to ask for?

For Michael, I've always said the worst thing they ever did was give Michael a backstory, when he survived for years on the show WITHOUT one. The same backstory would lead to Gloria and Kevin overpowering Michael's presence on the show.

I agree with this. I think the initial story with Kevin was great but LML and now Marina has allowed Gloria and to a lesser extent Kevin to overpower both Michael and Lauren. That is a writer's choice, not a characters. they don't have to write the family this way, but they do and it turns many viewers off. Michael should be the center of this family with Gloria as support not the other way around.

And I hope we never get a backstory for Phyllis either. I don't care to see her family, she's on enough, and I don't need a relative of her's driving storyline after storyline.

Amen to that.

Sorry about the bolding, but I am a bit inept in responding to mutiple quotes.
