OLTL: Discussion for the week August 4th-8th

OLTL was BEYOND campy in the 80s. It was a very 90s NBC like show. Here is a clip of Eterna. Click on the youtube like to find more

the thing is, wasn't it by the time of Eterna and especially the Wild West that ratings started to slip and the campiness became too much? it seems odd to pay hommage to one story (time travel) that no one really seemed to like... OLTL wasn't always campy in the 80s--jsut the second half, and it wasn't really till the talented Peggy O'Shea left aroudn 87 or 88 and the terrible Michael Schnessel replaced her that it just became too much--there's a reason they had to restructure the whole show and I hope they remember that.

That said I'm fine with some campiness for the Summer I'm just worried how long it'll last. It's hard to think of Mendorra and, say, Starr's pregnancy working in the same "universe"

I am not worried. I think Heaven Can Wait, Back to the Future/Wild Wild West, and Anna Karenina were a fun way to avoid the stall that naturally seems to occur in the summer. I haven't really enjoyed it because I am waiting with almost breathless anticipation to see what happens in the stories that were in full progression up to Nash's funeral, but I think I've seen the light. If we hadn't had these "campy" distractions I believe we would have endured the usual summer stall, where the stories still don't progress, and the "filler" consists of the characters interacting in little pods and saying the same thing day after day (ie: the gun that shot my father  ). While I hate that OLTL seems to have lost so much momentum over the summer, I think the fantasy diversions were preferable to the alternative. I don't know how other soaps avoid the summer malaise, but OLTL always seems to drop off during the summer.

Dorian looks like she got that dress from Little House on the Prairie or Gabriel from Xena Warrior Princess!

I liked Jack's sarcasm. "My dad comes to see me, my mom calls the cops.....gee, my life is perfect!"

It's not the way he's written, it's the kid who's playing him that's the problem IMO.
