Pics of Patsy Palmer with her baby, and bits of an interview with her:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1348109/EastEnders-actress-Patsy-Palmer-unveils-baby-Bertie.html

I wonder what this part is about:

She tells Hello!: 'I want to enjoy every minute with Bertie.

'If and when they want me back, I'll consider it.'

I wonder if she's considering leaving again. If she does, they might as well write Ricky and Bianca's million children out. Ricky proved in his 2002-2004 stint that he just doesn't work on his own anymore.

I hope she doesn't leave again. I thought the reason she came back was because there wasn't work elsewhere.

Unless she means returning briefly from maternity leave to help with the story they had to curtail.

Didn't she, essentially, call the show a piece of sh!t not too long before she returned in 2008? I wonder if she sees the baby as an opportunity to finally close the book for good on Bianca and EE.

Yeah, both Patsy and Lindsey Coulson swore for years that they would never return. Patsy in particular resented being typecast as Bianca for years. I think she said somewhere in the 00's that she doesn't watch the show and thought it was crap.

I guess she needed the money somewhere along the line. She met Dirderick Santer at Barbara Windsor's birthday party in 2007 and they started talking about her returning and things went off from there.

I hope she isn't leaving, for one reason because I'm tired of the EE IS DOOMED!!! stuff, and also because I have finally started enjoying her character again after being put off by that poor introduction Santer gave her.

Wow, The Mirror is reporting that Patsy wants to leave again and that her contract is up and she doesn't want to be "tied to anything."

Hopefully, this is more false rubbish from the press...

Patsy Palmer quits EastEnders over cot death storyline

by Clemmie Moodie, Daily Mirror 18/01/2011

PATSY Palmer has quit ยญEastEnders amid the furore surrounding the ยญcontroversial baby swap storyline.

The actress, currently on maternity leave, said the plot affected her daughter Emilia, nine, so much she pleaded with her to leave the soap.

Patsy, who has played Bianca since 1993, said the plotline, involving Ronnie Branning switching her dead baby for Kat Moonโ€™s newborn son, made Emilia cry.

Speaking about the scenes, Patsy, 38, told Hello!: โ€œEmilia adores her new baby brother Bertie and she couldnโ€™t believe ยญsomething like that could happen. She was sobbing and kept saying, โ€˜Please donโ€™t go back there, Mummyโ€™.

โ€œI had to calm her down and explain that it wasnโ€™t for real and that it was all pretend. But being only nine it was difficult for her to understand.

โ€œIt affected me too, especially after having Bertie, so I can imagine how other mums must have felt.โ€

The mother of four, married to cabbie Richard Merkell, added: โ€œIโ€™ve just finished my contract with EastEnders and Iโ€™ve decided I donโ€™t want to be tied to anything.

โ€œI just want to spend as much time as I can with Bertie and enjoy every minute with him.

Samantha Womack, who plays Ronnie Branning, is also leaving the soap.

If this is true then it really annoys me, even if it doesn't surprise me, that the paper tried to tie this to the baby swap, when I doubt her decision had anything to do with it.

I guess Lindsey will probably be gone by next year, but the idea of Carol being on the show without Bianca would be strange...it could work with good writing, but that's always hard to come by with soaps today.

More than ever Eastenders needs a few faces from the past, and also stronger male characters.

That sounds like a bunch of crap. Her daughter has trouble separating fact from fiction yet she's able to tell Patsy to "don't go back there." It doesn't make sense. She lets her 9-year-old daughter watch the show?

I think Carol has more potential to work on her own than Ricky. I know he existed for years on the show before Bianca, but as we saw in his 2002-2004 stint during the Louise Berridge era without Bianca, he was a complete waste of space on his own.

But, you know, I kind of liked Rucky and Natalie and wish the writing wasn't so bad for them when they tried to pair them legitimately. I always felt like Natalie had some respect for Ricky, which I don't often find with Bianca or Sam.

I wouldn't mind seeing Ricky/Natalie one more time (I don't want to see Ricky/Sam again). I think Ricky would work as a supporting character, and a part of the community - a lot of fans sneer at this as "dead wood" but it's important.

You're right about Carol. I do hope she stays. It just kind of feels like all signs are pointing otherwise.

Patsy says she hasn't quit, but reiterates that her contract has expired (and hasn't been renewed yet) and that she'll only return when it's right for both her and the show.

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s2/eastenders/news/a298616/palmer-i-have-not-quit-eastenders.html

However, in a statement released this morning, Palmer insisted: "I have not quit EastEnders over the current storyline as reports suggest. My contract came to an end soon after I gave birth to Bertie and as I have already said, I just want to spend every minute with him.

"I love EastEnders and have every intention of returning when the time is right for me and the show."

Thanks for finding that. I'm sure some will say that the BBC forced her to say this and she's not coming back, and so on, but I don't see why she'd go along with that. I hate that the baby switch controversy means any actor who goes is going because of this.

No Thomas Law left because Kirkwood has a cunning plan to destroy the Beales (since they were going so well before he showed up...).
