2004-2009 were uneven years from the show, but they had some fantastic long-running dramatic stories, which would serve Eastenders well. It's a shame Blyth fired her, but then he seems to want to make the show his and ignore what might have made Emmerdale best.

That was more Santer shock value. He wanted to rip off the story about viewers not knowing the father of Michelle's baby and they would each get a phone call and then the father would show up. The choices were, I think, Minty, Phil, I can't remember the other, and Darren. Darren had gotten drunk at his 18th birthday party and went home with Heather. Heather came across like a headcase because she talked to Shirley about how special this time had been and how they'd had special cuddles...and then it was a drunk Darren.

Wow...that's unbelievable. And no one (on the show/in the audience) had an issue with Heather being in her FORTIES talking about having sex with a TEENAGER? Jesus H. Christ. In a way, I'm glad they don't use her much anymore. Any scenes with her and Darren talking about their child would be utterly awkward.

Quick note about the current episodes -- I'm not feeling Vanessa and her storyline much at all. To be honest, she's boring me, and the whole Desperate Housewives style they've got going on with her just doesn't fit the rest of the show at all. Her blaming everyone else for the lie she told to her daughter for nearly 20 years isn't helping.

There were some very funny scenes where Libby and Denise and Chelsea went after Heather when they found out (they found out because she passed Darren a note at a pre-wedding thing for Syed and Amira). Denise kept on for a while. I loved it.

It was a terrible and pointless story but didn't have bad followup compared to some other shock value stories, as Darren, after initially not wanting anything to do with the baby, agreed to start paying support, and spends time with him occasionally, and Heather tells George that Darren is his father. It is, compared to a lot of stuff on soaps, fairly realistic.

I actually like both Vanessa and Jodie...sometimes I feel like Jodie is on the wrong show, but I think Vanessa/Max and Darren/Jodie both work well together. I'm not quite sure what isn't right. I do think that it was odd to shove the paternity reveal in so quickly and Harry is a mess of a character.

Sadly I don't think a show could tell a slow-burning story now.

I'm glad Berridge has found some peace from her time on the show. I feel like she was blamed for way too much...I wonder if the same is already happening to Kirkwood. Berridge's era was awful sometimes but had some great stuff too. Her care in Arthur's exit shows her love of history.

I think there was a very dark and nasty cloud, especially in regards to how she saw dominant male characters and gangsters that hovered around on the show in Berridge's era that took a long time for the show to get over (I don't know if it ever really did). Kind of like how a similar type cloud hovered around OLTL even after JFP left.

The stalker story about her is sad though. Crazy soap fans.

    • Garneau was in the Liberal party and his riding was in Montreal. He was the first Canadian in outer space.
    • I agree. I really have enjoyed this story from the beginning. I feel like it needed the time for us to care about Doug. They've done a nice job of explaining his motives and making me care for him. I still feel like he's doomed and Vanessa will end up being a widow and now I'm invested in that *not* happening now that I've fallen for him. Friday was good but so was the entire week. I think they're doing such a nice job of keeping things moving. We got good movement with Bill's story this week, Chelsea is attempting to date, Andre and Dani are having tough conversations about their relationship, of course Anita reunited with Sharon. There is *so* much going on and I didn't even cover all of it.  I wish all of the soaps would take a page out of BTG book and start rotating their stories. I love that everybody is getting a chance to shine and they don't just sit on one lead story to the point you get sick of it.
    • Did Jordan Clarke have a departure sometime between 1985 and 1989? I know Robert Newman had three runs: 1981-1984, 1986-1991, 1993-end.
    • Well, they usually weren't on the show at the time for long until the late 90's. But yeah, they really deserved a story centered on them, and not through the lens of Reva.
    • Chelsea was doing the absolute most today! Why was she introducing her sister to a woman she doesnt know? That whole scene was embarrassing. Madison needs to stay away from her bc she is too immature
    • Gosh, what a waste with Lunacy. Why have her live with $B, reveal Finn, pardon her, etc What makes this story incredibly hollow is that what Luna is asking isn't unreasonable - to spend time with her cousin father. She's not asking to move in with them. How hard with it be for Finn to throw her a bone by, say, I'll meet you for lunch/coffee once at week at the hospital cafeteria. Lunacy isn't going to hurt Finn. In fact, all her crimes were related to finding her father and it turns out to be someone she's loved her entire life. Instead of course-correcting the nonsense of last summer, Brad somehow found a way to make this worse! That's a skill... Of all the younger actors B&B has cast during the past 5 years, LY has shown the most growth and range. Why get rid of her?
    • On the subject of sets (seems more interesting to discuss than the actual show)  Some sets we don't see anymore Lauren/Michael apartment (haven't seen that in years) Victoria's house (are Marian/Tessa living there?) Apartment above Crimson Lights (I think Chelsea was the last resident) Penthouse (Lily's home) Chancellor Estate (Devon/Abby) Chancellor office (once Dark Horse) Nick's house GCAC room (used as residence/hotel room for several characters) Some of these may pop up again. The tack house, for example, was not seen for many months before being used again. Have I missed anything?
    • Thanks for searching through everything. Worked on them so long, just too lazy to check for those links myself, so I am glad you chose to do it! I guess I never did type out anything for 1973-1977 in regards to the preemptions, but they are on the charts at least (and this far back, they don't seem to do any of those "breakouts" anymore, so things are simpler in the 1970's, so eventually I could type those out).
    • I dump on the Y&R sets problem all the time, but BOLD is no better -- and they're not even introducing new sets. All of their sets are years old, and very few look like they're inhabited by people with money. Is that going to change with this move? I'd rather they save the money spent on another remote, which is no better than an HGTV travelogue, and get some new/better sets.
    • The donut posts here make up for a Friday show that was barely meh. Aside from seeing Anna, I really didn't care much about anything else. While I understand the thought behind breaking up all the sadness with "other scenes," I'd rather they moved right to John's funeral. Instead of hearing a stupid story about John changing some minor character's tire 20 years ago, just move on to the crying. I also thought the Chad and Cat scenes were a waste. I realize not everyone is devastated by John's death to the point of not functioning, but going sky diving is a choice. By the way, Jack and Jennifer are giving me nothing on this return. Please leave asap. DAYS did such a great job with John's death, so ending the week this way was a letdown.
