There are two new episodes of Freshers up. The stuff with Lee and Leanne or Joanne or whoever is kind of dull and stupid -- he's fine but she is kind of annoying. I also hate her hair. It's nice to see Bombhead again though -- Lee calls him again in the fourth episode.

The stuff with Tex seems like filler. I mostly just pass the time thinking how she reminds me of Louise and wondering if the guy she is with, the "rock star," will get naked.

As I suspected in the promo, Dave DOES get naked, and, as you can already tell by the way he wears jeans, he has a nice a$$. This is more entertaining than the arrival of Viv, a hitchhiker who is billed as "hot" but reminds me of a British Christine Lahti. Also more interludes with the annoying American (still not sure if that's his real accent) and Charlotte and Jamile. I like Jamile, I hope he will be a decent character when he's on the regular show. I also like how Charlotte looks out for him. Charlotte is a great character.

They should have kept some of the departures quiet, as now the deaths seem fairly predictable. And so many characters now are so isolated it's going to seem like a stunt to kill them off, they may not even get much of a funeral or a reaction, like poor Amy. A stunt only works if people can care. And if they have Steph die then it's just a copout in a story which already seems hollow.

These odd "Coronation Street Adidas" videos -- I think this is that dull Joanne from Freshers in this clip, at 1:24.

The actor that plays Brendan really outdid himself today. The whole time Kieron Richardson (Ste) looked like he was trying desperately to hide his embarrassment. Pathetic.

And if Rhys and Jacqui weren't already the most forced and convoluted pairing I have ever seen, today certainly clinched that sad fact. The characters, and especially the actors, deserve so much better than this trash.

And NO, 1) Carmel isn't that dumb and 2) She would NEVER for Brendan in a million years. Another fail.

And, of course, Cherly and Duncan ruined every second of airtime their ugly mugs were heavily (pun intended) forced upon us. Disgusting

Crap, crap, crap, crap, crap!

I cannot watch Brendan as this playboy, all knowing, God. It makes me sick to see how Marquess is constantly lowering the IQ's of my favourite characters everyday just to prop this ugly mug. He can't act worth a damn. It's not even so terrible it's good, it's just horrid.

I don't see a lot of chemistry so far, although my watching has been sporadic. The problem I had when I did watch is the story doesn't suit their characters (online dating, really??) and feels rushed. They're two of the show's best actors so I hope this works but it's hard to get involved. I kind of would rather have seen him with India.

A glimpse of the new credits.

It reminds me of Desperate Housewives.

I think that's one of the reasons I am not enjoying the revamp as much as a lot of people (many over at DS seem to love the show now and cannot get enough of Brendan, Cheryl, et al). The whole thing, when I watch, just feels generic. I'm not all that surprised to learn that Mitzeee was supposed to go on a Marquess project which didn't get off the ground so he put her on Hollyoaks. Her character, along with most of the Costellos, and Brendan, seem like bad parodies of a very cheesy primetime soap. I don't feel like any of this has anything to do with Hollyoaks. Everything is grafted on and shallow, which might be one of the reasons I can't entirely buy Steph's cancer story.

I'm hating Hollyoaks right now. The Brendan/Cheryl/Duncan show disgusts and revolts me. The Sharpe's are boring. The Costello's mostly suck. The reason I'm still watching is for my favourite characters that still remain, who are few and far between and when they are on, they're usually involved with characters I can't stand. I'll watch next week for Alex Carter and go from there.

I have a hard time watching, so I end up being a few weeks behind. When I do I enjoy some of it, there's some decent stuff, it's just hard to care about anything, or when I do care it's mostly being annoyed by something. I think they need to dial down the gloss on their new characters, and Brendan is just a creepy joke. I'm glad they are using some of the older characters, but for every Myra (who has had some entertaining material), there's Frankie and Jack who somehow still seem to be superfluous even when Steph is dying.

I also wish they would write Tom out, I don't see where this character can go now.

I still don't know why Gabby Sharpe needed kids.

    • Wow, do I agree with you. Chelsea is coming off as ridiculous. All she does is look for a woman to date while not caring about her business at all. That she's bi is great, but they're not writing her like she's bi. She seems to be lesbian. Yeah, I know -- "no labels." I just don't find the writing for her story to be anything other than awkward.   -- I hope we get some diagnosis finality with Bill's trip to the hospital. I don't want to see these trips to the ER every other day. -- Naomi is going to blame herself for Bill's health problems? GMAB. -- Ashley doesn't read as a real nurse in the slightest. -- Another day, another rinse and repeat conversation with Derek and Ashley. YAWN. -- Kat is making mistakes, but she's fun to watch and listen to, regardless. -- I still think the Joey/Vanessa/Doug gambling story sucks. I know Doug is deeply in debt, but I don't like him acting this meek and submissive.  -- I'm not sure what Joey's plan was from the beginning, or why he had to seduce Vanessa at all to get his way. I'm not sure what Vanessa ever saw in Joey -- why doesn't he give her the ick? -- I'm fine with a story where Doug and Vanessa take out Joey.  -- The fades to commercials were pretty bad today.
    •   Victoria's house (that she long ago lived in with Billy) burned down (I think Aunt Jordan set ablaze?). Mariah and Tessa and baby Aria had been living in the tack house but they bought a house we've never seen and moved there. Victoria, Claire, and Cole now live in the tack house.
    • Victoria’s previous house burned down.    And I know why characters frequent Crimson Lights 3 times a day for brownies, muffins and empty mugs:   THERE’S PCP IN EVERYTHING.
    • Today was a good episode, and the week for that matter. I think they've also done a better job with background music. The scenes in todays episode weren't as silent as they usually are in the background and it was noticeable. I think the show has found its groove well and I'm still invested.
    • Garneau was in the Liberal party and his riding was in Montreal. He was the first Canadian in outer space.
    • I agree. I really have enjoyed this story from the beginning. I feel like it needed the time for us to care about Doug. They've done a nice job of explaining his motives and making me care for him. I still feel like he's doomed and Vanessa will end up being a widow and now I'm invested in that *not* happening now that I've fallen for him. Friday was good but so was the entire week. I think they're doing such a nice job of keeping things moving. We got good movement with Bill's story this week, Chelsea is attempting to date, Andre and Dani are having tough conversations about their relationship, of course Anita reunited with Sharon. There is *so* much going on and I didn't even cover all of it.  I wish all of the soaps would take a page out of BTG book and start rotating their stories. I love that everybody is getting a chance to shine and they don't just sit on one lead story to the point you get sick of it.
    • Did Jordan Clarke have a departure sometime between 1985 and 1989? I know Robert Newman had three runs: 1981-1984, 1986-1991, 1993-end.
    • Well, they usually weren't on the show at the time for long until the late 90's. But yeah, they really deserved a story centered on them, and not through the lens of Reva.
    • Chelsea was doing the absolute most today! Why was she introducing her sister to a woman she doesnt know? That whole scene was embarrassing. Madison needs to stay away from her bc she is too immature
    • Gosh, what a waste with Lunacy. Why have her live with $B, reveal Finn, pardon her, etc What makes this story incredibly hollow is that what Luna is asking isn't unreasonable - to spend time with her cousin father. She's not asking to move in with them. How hard with it be for Finn to throw her a bone by, say, I'll meet you for lunch/coffee once at week at the hospital cafeteria. Lunacy isn't going to hurt Finn. In fact, all her crimes were related to finding her father and it turns out to be someone she's loved her entire life. Instead of course-correcting the nonsense of last summer, Brad somehow found a way to make this worse! That's a skill... Of all the younger actors B&B has cast during the past 5 years, LY has shown the most growth and range. Why get rid of her?
