Martino's death was so stupid!!!! LMAO!!!

Why in the world would he pick up a gun (that was on the table?)? Mob bosses don't do that in public, especially when there's cops around! Mob bosses like Martino use their money and power and lawyers to get off.

And what was the whole point of his background with Kate?

Did Dena put any thought into this character? He's dead in two weeks? Okay.

My understanding from the beginning before they even hired Joe Penny was that they were looking to stunt cast for Ava's father (along the same lines of the stunt casting with Shirley Jones). I think an actual rep from Days said that. So I wasn't expecting to see him for more than a few weeks.

I didn't think so. He was already resisting arrest and he went for his gun. Doesn't mean he was going to use it. My interpretation was that he was going to use it to maybe hold everyone off so he could get out of there with Ava or he was just going to go off and shoot everyone. Sure, that isn't what a mob boss would do but what mob boss has ever been exposed for drugging his daughter and killing his wife in front of a room full of cops. Of course, he would lose it and just do something to try to get out of there. He could use his connections to clean up the mess later.

I also appreciated the setup they gave us on Wednesday with customers slowly leaving the pub as it got dark outside. They also had Hope come in from the back and the waitress at the bar that was in the back Wednesday was sort of motioned too by Hope in the background if you really look at the scene so that helped make it all going down in the Pub a bit more sensible since Hope would've told people to stay out with cops there and of course with cops there any people would sense trouble and leave.

It was hasty exit but expected as Penny wasn't long-term. He served his purpose and I still sense his exit will lead to something for possibly Kate and definitely for Ava and Angelo, whom I'm enjoying. Many on here may dislike Higley and that is their right but she just doesn't introduce things and drop them from what I've seen.

Of course, this is JMO. Back to lurkdom I go .

I just bolded the key part of your statement.

He's suppose to be the head of a crime family, who makes the Dimera's look like boy scouts? And that's how he dies? Clearly, Dena dosen't know how to write a mob boss. LOL

Also, the hitman just so happens to have evidence on him 24 hours later? What a horrible hitman! LOL

Yeah, to exonerate Ava. We didn't even get that many scenes with Ava and her father. And what's this issue with Ava's mother? There could've been this great backstory with the Vitali family. Use the backstory to tell a current story! Also, why does Angelo turn on his uncle so quickly? "Oh, he didn't want to see Ava get hurt anymore." Umm....okay....that was a quick 180! Who's going to be the head of the Vatali family now? Will that person want revenge for Martinio's death?

I can never understand casting a short term character who is integral to another character. First John's mother, now Ava's father. Those are important characters.

^That's true, Toups but considering most people hated Days bringing Martino on in the first place, I would say the show made the right choice in the end, even if it wasted Penny's talent. I, personally, think they had not planned for Ava to be around this long but so many people like her that they changed gears to attempt to redeem her through her father. I truly think things were going to be different but they want to attempt to keep Ava around, for which I can't blame them as Tamara did not shoot down the idea and she does have fans and is extremely talented.

I had no problem with how he dies because, like I said, he was losing control of the situation so I wasn't expecting him to be in "mob boss mastermind" mold. As for the evidence, it was Ava's doctor's black book that he pocketed. Maybe he simply forgot to take it out of his pocket or maybe he had some use of it. We don't know but I don't think it's necessarily a stupid plot point as there could be reasons for why the guy has it.

I was really warming up to Martino because of Penny's talent. He's really good. I thought maybe he would have more scenes with Kate, or even Victor becaused it seemed like he knew of the Vitali family. Like I said, a character of this magnitude should never be short term. If Penny didn't want to play the role for many months, they should've gotten an actor who did.

I'm sure they did know. They knew they had Tamara for the duration of her contract (what is it again? one year?).

He forgot to take it out of his pocket? Come on, Tim, that isn't a stupid plot point? LOL

In the DAYS writer's room:

DAYS Writer 1: "How is Bo about to get evidence on Martino?"

Dena Higley: "Ohhh!!! Ava's doctor's book!"

DAYS Writer 2: "Okay, how does Bo get the book?"

Dena Higley: "Martino's hitman has it!!"

DAYS Writer 3: "Right, the hit man who killed the doctor. Hmm...why does the hitman have the book 24 hours after he killed him. Shouldn't he have got rid of the evidence?"

Dena Higley: "Nope. He simply forgot to get rid of it! How brilliant is that?"
