My Favorite Another World Storylines

I grew up with Another World and Days of our Lives. My earliest memories of Another World were the multi colored rings during the 70's/early 80's opening and Bill Wolfe's Voice over. I didnt really start paying attention to the show until 1983. I watched Another World from 1983 until the end. I currently watch Another World on PG/AOL Video, and love it. Here are my favorite storylines.

I liked the Justine Duvalier storyline, and the 1996 Serial Killer storyline, call me weird but I liked what JFP did during those years. Does anyone know where I can find old AW media for these storylines (besides the few ive seen on Youtube?) Anyone have a clip of where Felicia falls through the skyline in 97?

FYI - Alice Barrett-Mitchell (Frankie) was on Friday's OLTL as the OB/GYN, and she'll probably be on tomorrow (since there was a cliffhanger in that set on Friday)

It was great to see her again - she looks fantastic!

Poor. poor, misguided Lumina...

Thank God for David MacDonald, who totally saved Jordan Stark from being completely worthless.

And how much fun were he and Kim Rhodes together in those last few weeks?! David and Cindy were AWESOME!

I loved AW way back from childhood. I think my favourite storyline was Mitch and Janice and the creation of Brava! magazine and then the outcome with St. Croix, and the pool, and Rachel and Janice and then Mitch disappearing and Rachel going to jail, and poor Mac on the witness stand finding out he couldn't be Matthew's father. Wheww! HARRY MUST DIE!

If I go way back, Iris was causing trouble on a daily basis but it was a slow burn. Daddy! this and Daddy! that. One of the best triangles ever was Rachel, Mac, and Iris. Repeated on OLTL as Dorian, Viki and Victor.

And I loved anything with Cecile de Pouligniac.

Also there was poor John Randolph getting involved with Olive after Pat left him. And all that creepy music when John shot Olive's lover, the architect. Aunt Liz seemed to be meddling into every one of those old stories. That would have been mid -late 70's.

and then there was "Iris, you're adopted!" and her mother, Sylvie Kosloff who took over the house - or FOLLY - built by Olive Randolph (who was by then in the nut house)

Iris had the coolest penthouse ever.

Are any of you old enough to remember the misguided 90 minute version? I am.

In my opinion, it could have been magnificent... but how can you expect a great cast like that to do it all? Of course they had to add new families, and as they took over, we had 90 minutes of strangers.

And then there was the 60 to 90 second preview at the beginning of the show, which was almost identical to the 60 to 90 second preview from the end of the previous show. In other words, it worked once.

I was rather young at the time but I remember heavy criticism in TV Guide; most of it about a cast too large to keep track of.

Yes, but too young to fully appreciate it. His name was the first I recognized as "writer", during a '70's Emmy broadcast that included multiple favourable mentions of Harding "Pete" Lemay. Kind of an "aha!" moment for me about who was responsible for what the actors said.

No, I've never been mistaken for an intelligent person. If I can get an MA anyone can.

I was born in '68 so you do the math.

My sister and I wore out the rotary tuner (this was before digital remotes) switching from OLTL and AW.

We were among the lucky few that had remotes back then. We'd click and watch the rotary dial on the TV console turn to change the channel. If you were on 5 it still had to go through 6, 7, and 8, to get to 9. No just punching in the number. And if the phone was too close to the TV, and it rang, it sent the dial spinning. Click! Click! I have, several times. "Eight Years in Another World" is a great book. He reveals his opinions of certain actors and his frustration with Procter & Gamble especially surrounding his planned storyline for Michael Randolph. He also goes into detail regarding his initial arrangement with Irna Phillips.

I was born in January, 1967, and probably have a similar perspective as TC Greene.

    • I'm anticipating most of the cast at the Nice location for a few weeks a la the Tuscan villa for Victoria and Ashland's wedding. I don't know why they bother. I'd rather see the money going into more regular home/office sets. This party has been a bust. No secrets revealed, break ups  etc. Ugly decorations and I'm going to slam the costuming again. Just the guests heaping praise on  Nikki  like she's achieved some magnificent milestone rather than just getting a year older.

In the loving arms of his wife, Dr. Marlena Evans, John took his last breath at the end of the June 2 episode, after suffering devastating internal injuries during a lab explosion. The iconic character went out as he lived — a hero. Sensing the fans’ devastation on Monday, Marlena’s portrayer Deidre Hall posted this simple-but-powerful message to fans on Instagram: “I know. I know. Hardest day ever.”

    • Now coming into June...well...   I knew it was coming but I didn't like the start to the next round of Dani/Bill/Hayley. As the 3 A plots from the start of the show (The SilkPress storyline and Martin's Secret being the other two), it needed to be benched for a while to develop those characters and allow other characters and storylines to grow. 3 months in, Hayley is the weak link, Dani is still divisive, but not boring, and Bill has been making his mark with some plots faster than others. So last week seeing the story starting to loop back around to them with Hayley's potential pregnancy, I honestly had mixed feelings.   I get it. The SilkPress storyline is currently in aftermath/next turn mode, so it has to be moved into a C plot position. Moreso if we want to keep the very talented Miss Trish around. And I love how clever the writers are being with the storyline. They give us enough in the episodes and are still playing out beats to keep the appetite fed. I don't feel like anyone is being dumbed down to keep her around. And Trish is giving nuances in her alone scenes with NuTed. I shouldn't care for a clear psycho, but she be selling it. That said...I wish they had given us a little more of the Martin's Secret storyline in the last week of the month though I loved the game of cat and mouse Bill did on Martin and Smitty to keep the storyline alive and active after it had a nice build beginning of May and vanished for a week mid-May. And it appears like it's about to go back to the backburner as an A plot which of course leaves the A plot of Dani/Bill/Hayley.   I am probably in the minority as someone who is not anti-Dani here and even she annoyed the heck out of me last week. In character true, but I just felt like there was a way to get all of that across without it feeling like...as I've said before...one step forward, two steps back...and have it feel organic. I liked Hayley got a little bit of edge with her, but she still ain't no match for Dani. And it reminds to be seen if we should be going back to that well of a story yet.   Now about today's show...   And I thought Tracy was bad! lol. But YES. Sharon has been worth the wait. And so has Anita's story! Finally having TT in the limelight. This has been a nice slow burn for me and a nice B plot. And the actress is good. The wig is giving. And her holding what Anita's secret is over her head and threatening to tell Vernon....Ooooo...that is what I was waiting for.    And speaking of bad...I thought Eva vs Kat was a great rivalry. But I am loving the rivalry that is growing with 'Nancy Drew' and Silk Press Sheila! They both get good licks in and are so cunning with each other. And I definitely have liked that since the anniversary party, that it has been growing. Now that Kat has been proven right, she has not backed down. And neither has SilkPress. And we got a 'Ms. B@tch' moment, too? LOVE. Eva coming up with a trump card was delicious and so 90s Sami Brady. GOOD. And the coda with Jacob and the expert...YES. The Silk Press storyline has been the best paced on the show so I love that the aftermath of the anniversary party continues to be so...barring one flaw...well for me. Not enough Nicole's POV.   And I like the C plots on display. And by that, I mean Chelsea with Vernon. And it made me wonder what the writers have plan for her love life now that the throuple is over with. I was watching her and going awww.   And of course the mystery man around Martin. I am starting to wonder if he really even works at the country club given how he made a run for it. That would be a twist.    Speaking of Martin...good to see him in scenes with his father and mother.    I'm getting used to NuTed.    I felt the last episode of May was a bit of a letdown, but this was a very nice recovery.
    • Unless they cut him, I'd think he would stay. Surely, he didn't choose to return because he expected high quality. I figure he gets to work when he wants and spend a lot of time doing his own thing and being with his family.
    • The writing for Liz and Lucky is indeed terrible, but if JJ signed a one-year contract he may be gone in a couple of months anyway. Perhaps they’re just cutting their losses.
    • That would be his older sister Stacey. She was the center of a big story back in the day. Nola was out to snag medical student Kelly Nelson, who she thought would provide her with the life she craved. He was in love with a girl named Morgan. Nola plotted to get pregnant by him, but couldn't manage to get him in bed. So she seduced Floyd, who thought she was in love with him. When she knew she was pregnant, she got Kelly drunk and made sure he woke up next to her in bed. Kelly believed her when she told him he made her pregnant. They were about to elope to Las Vegas, but her mother ratted her out and Kelly abandoned her. She almost married Floyd, but jilted him at the altar. She went to work for Quint. When the baby came prematurely, Kelly saved both of them. She named the baby Kelly Louise to irk Morgan, who was now married to Kelly. When she fell in love with Quint, she had a change of heart over all the trouble she had caused, so she changed the baby's name to Anastasia Louise, shortened to Stacey. Quint was a devoted stepfather and Henry treated her like his own granddaughter.  After Quint and Nola leave SF, I believe Stacey is never seen again. Which is odd, you would think they would have brought her back with Nola and J, but they never did.
