Sadly, I've never read it but I know details, as you have mentioned, Rich.

For a time, when I was pursuing my undergrad studies, I worked in a library. The soap books were always either in "the bindery" or lost, or on request.

I miss this show so much. I was very loyal and watched every day except during school. I liked or loved almost every single character. I have to admit I didn't pay any attention to who the writers were back then. I do remember the show going to 90 minutes. I loved the Felicia, Cass, Kathleen, and Wally era. Those were some good times. I do remember John and Pat. I remember being sad about the storyline, but I don't remember a lot of it.

I was born in 57'. I wonder if my local lib. would have this book. It sounds like an interesting read.

Oh Deb, you'd be about the same age as my older, older sister - the one who got us so interested in soaps. Did you see AW from the beginning? At my Grandmother's summer cottage, back in the 80's, we found an old TIME magazine about soaps from the 70's. Have you seen it? The text of the article has been posted here (not by me). But for years afterward TIME would promote themselves in small block ads with a pic of Victoria Wyndham - crying - with the words "Soaps are like Big Macs. People who won't admit it, eat them up."

And back then it was like that for AW. My mom is a therapist in private practice now but back then she taught psychology and sociology at a local college. She and several of her colleagues would arrange their teaching schedules so that they could watch AW.

Is anyone watching Another World on AOL video? I love it!!!!! The conclusion to Blaine's trial is awesome!!!!! I remember watching the last posted episode with my grandmother, and she was shocked at who the killer turned out to be! Its the best soap, along with Edge of Night, currently available for viewing, canceled or present day!

Ill start with Search when the murders start, I watched Search sporadically, especially during the Warren/Wendy Storyline, and the murders, and the flood. I also have to catch up on Texas. Right now for me Antoher World and Edge are the best out of the four.

nothing about age intended here, just a language problem. By my "older, older" sister, I meant my eldest sister, the one older than the other, the smarter one.

Sorry Deb. I spend most of my day in French, so it is sometimes difficult for me to revert back to English in a coherent way.

Lol, while writing this, I noticed your new post! I figured I would let it slide, lol! No offense taken. Raising my grandchildren makes me very incoherent by the end of the day. Preschool is my second language.

I think I watched it pretty much from the beginning when I wasn't in school. I really got into it when Mac came on, and he and Rachel fell in love. Anything before is pretty vague for me. I remember John and Pat, Steven, "what's her name", and the original Rachel, Robin Strasser. If I watched clips from AOL or youtube, I would remember more. I would run into the house to catch the last minutes of the show everyday.

I haven't seen the article you mentioned. I will look for it and read it. I do seem to remember the saying though.

My mom watched AW, but hasn't watched any soap in years. She thinks it is a good training ground for actors, but...crap, lol, yet she watches those stupid expose shows and believes everything. I love hearing about highly educated people watching soaps. On the outside, people wouldn't admit it except maybe to their closest friends. It's funny. I've take a few college courses over the years (no degree), and yet I won't admit to many that I watch a soap especially AMC!

You'd love the article, I'm sure. I will look for it here... but it doesn't have the same effect as seeing it all on the page, with photos, and "tears" instead of stars as a ratings system for each soap.

What I can sort of tell you is that AW was in trouble until "circe" Rachel was introduced. Hey, it was the 70's! Doug and Julie from DAYS were on the cover of TIME, back when TIME was still relevant.

Thank you, TC, I'd appreciate it.

I remember watching Doug and Julie back then. First real soap "supercouple".

Until I started reading message boards, I didn't care who wrote what, etc. There is an amazing amount of info. and varying opinions on this board. I find myself coming here a lot.

Alma Rudder had to be my favorite storyline. I was just a kid then but I'll never forget her torturing Blaine. It was so devious and evil. And no one suspecting. I loved when she would call Cecile "Cecil" or Clarice "Cloris". It was just too much.

My mom was one of the first with a VCR, a small car probably cost less back then. Anyway, there was a similar story on The Doctors involving Althea, does anyone remember this, or know of a good TD site?

I have not got to read this whole thread yet but for me - my faves from the years I watched (1970 to the end) are:

Steve/Rachel/Alice triangle

Lenore & Robert's love story

Robert gets Clarice pregnant while married to Iris

John & Pat Randolph's breakup

John's marriage to Olive

Pat/Marianne/Greg triangle with Pat killing Greg

Joey & Eileen's love story (so tragic)

Catlin & Sally's love story

Donna finds love with Michael and reveal that they were Marly & Victoria's parents

Mac & Rachel's love story

Cecile's transformation from good girl to bad girl

Sandy & Blaine's love story

Mitch/Janice/Mac/Rachel

    • I'm anticipating most of the cast at the Nice location for a few weeks a la the Tuscan villa for Victoria and Ashland's wedding. I don't know why they bother. I'd rather see the money going into more regular home/office sets. This party has been a bust. No secrets revealed, break ups  etc. Ugly decorations and I'm going to slam the costuming again. Just the guests heaping praise on  Nikki  like she's achieved some magnificent milestone rather than just getting a year older.

In the loving arms of his wife, Dr. Marlena Evans, John took his last breath at the end of the June 2 episode, after suffering devastating internal injuries during a lab explosion. The iconic character went out as he lived — a hero. Sensing the fans’ devastation on Monday, Marlena’s portrayer Deidre Hall posted this simple-but-powerful message to fans on Instagram: “I know. I know. Hardest day ever.”

    • Now coming into June...well...   I knew it was coming but I didn't like the start to the next round of Dani/Bill/Hayley. As the 3 A plots from the start of the show (The SilkPress storyline and Martin's Secret being the other two), it needed to be benched for a while to develop those characters and allow other characters and storylines to grow. 3 months in, Hayley is the weak link, Dani is still divisive, but not boring, and Bill has been making his mark with some plots faster than others. So last week seeing the story starting to loop back around to them with Hayley's potential pregnancy, I honestly had mixed feelings.   I get it. The SilkPress storyline is currently in aftermath/next turn mode, so it has to be moved into a C plot position. Moreso if we want to keep the very talented Miss Trish around. And I love how clever the writers are being with the storyline. They give us enough in the episodes and are still playing out beats to keep the appetite fed. I don't feel like anyone is being dumbed down to keep her around. And Trish is giving nuances in her alone scenes with NuTed. I shouldn't care for a clear psycho, but she be selling it. That said...I wish they had given us a little more of the Martin's Secret storyline in the last week of the month though I loved the game of cat and mouse Bill did on Martin and Smitty to keep the storyline alive and active after it had a nice build beginning of May and vanished for a week mid-May. And it appears like it's about to go back to the backburner as an A plot which of course leaves the A plot of Dani/Bill/Hayley.   I am probably in the minority as someone who is not anti-Dani here and even she annoyed the heck out of me last week. In character true, but I just felt like there was a way to get all of that across without it feeling like...as I've said before...one step forward, two steps back...and have it feel organic. I liked Hayley got a little bit of edge with her, but she still ain't no match for Dani. And it reminds to be seen if we should be going back to that well of a story yet.   Now about today's show...   And I thought Tracy was bad! lol. But YES. Sharon has been worth the wait. And so has Anita's story! Finally having TT in the limelight. This has been a nice slow burn for me and a nice B plot. And the actress is good. The wig is giving. And her holding what Anita's secret is over her head and threatening to tell Vernon....Ooooo...that is what I was waiting for.    And speaking of bad...I thought Eva vs Kat was a great rivalry. But I am loving the rivalry that is growing with 'Nancy Drew' and Silk Press Sheila! They both get good licks in and are so cunning with each other. And I definitely have liked that since the anniversary party, that it has been growing. Now that Kat has been proven right, she has not backed down. And neither has SilkPress. And we got a 'Ms. B@tch' moment, too? LOVE. Eva coming up with a trump card was delicious and so 90s Sami Brady. GOOD. And the coda with Jacob and the expert...YES. The Silk Press storyline has been the best paced on the show so I love that the aftermath of the anniversary party continues to be so...barring one flaw...well for me. Not enough Nicole's POV.   And I like the C plots on display. And by that, I mean Chelsea with Vernon. And it made me wonder what the writers have plan for her love life now that the throuple is over with. I was watching her and going awww.   And of course the mystery man around Martin. I am starting to wonder if he really even works at the country club given how he made a run for it. That would be a twist.    Speaking of Martin...good to see him in scenes with his father and mother.    I'm getting used to NuTed.    I felt the last episode of May was a bit of a letdown, but this was a very nice recovery.
    • Unless they cut him, I'd think he would stay. Surely, he didn't choose to return because he expected high quality. I figure he gets to work when he wants and spend a lot of time doing his own thing and being with his family.
    • The writing for Liz and Lucky is indeed terrible, but if JJ signed a one-year contract he may be gone in a couple of months anyway. Perhaps they’re just cutting their losses.
    • That would be his older sister Stacey. She was the center of a big story back in the day. Nola was out to snag medical student Kelly Nelson, who she thought would provide her with the life she craved. He was in love with a girl named Morgan. Nola plotted to get pregnant by him, but couldn't manage to get him in bed. So she seduced Floyd, who thought she was in love with him. When she knew she was pregnant, she got Kelly drunk and made sure he woke up next to her in bed. Kelly believed her when she told him he made her pregnant. They were about to elope to Las Vegas, but her mother ratted her out and Kelly abandoned her. She almost married Floyd, but jilted him at the altar. She went to work for Quint. When the baby came prematurely, Kelly saved both of them. She named the baby Kelly Louise to irk Morgan, who was now married to Kelly. When she fell in love with Quint, she had a change of heart over all the trouble she had caused, so she changed the baby's name to Anastasia Louise, shortened to Stacey. Quint was a devoted stepfather and Henry treated her like his own granddaughter.  After Quint and Nola leave SF, I believe Stacey is never seen again. Which is odd, you would think they would have brought her back with Nola and J, but they never did.
