Y&R: How Latham Tried But Failed to Reinvent the Wheel

I actually liked LML's writing in 2006 and the first half of 2007. The show really took a nosedive, IMO, when Ed Scott was fired. But whenever the show started to go downhill, I thought of Bradley Bell, and suddenly LML looked like Shakespeare!

You're kidding...right?

When it comes to Brad, who I respect a lot even with all his faults, I believe he can do whatever he damn well wants at B&B, it's HIS show, his parents created it and they gave it to HIM. LML just swooped in and nearly destroyed Y&R. In my view the show went downhill once LML got Kay Alden to quit, after all, Sony never meant for Alden to be ousted.

^With all due respect, I totally disagree. B&B used to be great, but in the last 3 years or so, it has mostly been about Brooke bouncing back and forth between Ridge and Nick. At least LML had variety. Bell also has a habit of hiring promising new cast members and quickly letting them go to make way for this horrible triangle. Example: Ben Hogestyn. He could have been a love interest for Phoebe, but he was let go, and for what? To have Phoebe fall for her uncle?! Not to mention the backburnering of talented cast members (ie. Winsor Harmon, Lesley-Anne Down, Lesli Kay) and the character assassination (ie. Bridget the perpetual doormat).

I'm with Ryan, who says that people don't read Marlena's column? Just because people don't post a link to it here, doesn't mean they don't read it. I read hers whenever I get a chance....

Do I have to add anything to this?

^ I don't know. Do you? Zendall fan's remark seems pretty self-explanatory to me. She reads MDLC's column when she has a moment. End of.

That was irony, Cat. It translates: I don't have anything to add. If she actually adored the column, she'd read it religiously. However, she reads it whenever she gets the chance.

Well, thank you for translating for me. I am already casually acquainted with Irony-Speak.

Not to harp on about this non-issue, but I just figured reading these soap columns was a pretty passive endeavor. I mean, I enjoy MDLC and Serial Drama and on average check in once, maybe twice, a week. But it's not the same impetus as coming onto SON on a near-daily basis, you know? Maybe with Zendall Fan it is the same thing.

Sure, it can be the case. People are different - I know that once I find a writer whose columns I like, I read them regularly and don't skip a single one. B)
