Members jimmyk311
It's quite obvious that LML had so much power and an ego at Y&R that the cast were afraid of the repercussion that Latham would them blackball from an another soap since many EPs and HWs are buddy buddy with one another. In Eric's case, I think the reason that he wasn't outspoken during LML's reign is because of two things loyalty and positioning. Eric been there went Y&R wasn't the number 1 show to when the show was hitting a creative snooze fest, but, if Eric were to leave Y&R to go to some other soap like a SONY-like soap such as DAYS, he would probably be giving a supporting role as a madman werewolf who is hired by the Dimeras who kidnap Stephanie and Max and have Rolf brainwash them to became Jack and Jennifer. Then, the werewolf would be killed and fall off the roof of the new Brady's coffee cafe after Marlena overdose him on some Tylenol after she had affairs with E.J. and later Tony when she profound her love for the werewolf. That would be dumbfounded compare to Eric being a leading man with an ensemble cast on the number one soap, Y&R. Plus, most of the storylines and roles that the writers come up with would make Eric either pissed off or ask to be let go from that soap. In my opinion, I have no faith with any soap writer to give Eric a good role to be comfortable with. He will always be Victor; that's the role that made him and most relaxed with even if he wants creative control, time off, or be backburned. How many other leading male actors from other soaps would want to move out of the way to take a pay cut and let Eric become the new leading man for that show? Not very few that's for sure. Based on what I read on the web, the mentality on the set of Y&R is like a gangster in a gang, where even though the cast don't get along or like each other, when it counts the most, through the good and the bad, they can also stand together for the common good of the show. And, if Eric would had left the show, not only would create uproar within the cast but many cast members would have been angry at him for leaving went things are at its worst since he's Y&R (sorry Jeanne Cooper,) just like how cast members were mad or happy when Victoria Rowell left the show. He would be look upon as an outsider and would have been ousted from the show if he’d returned (like they haven’t done so anyway.) Y&R would also have to shift from Victor vs. Jack to Jack vs. the world as Peter would become the new male identity of Y&R. Also, since primetime is build upon as an youth driven market, Eric may limited to what roles he can get and many producers might look at Eric as an one dimensional actor since he played Victor for so long even though he play other roles throughout his career (which is one the reason why many soap actors don't find success in primetime.) Then again, Eric is always kinda moody. I just wish that more actors with influence speak against the industry before many actors ask *Why in the hell my show is cancelled?*
Members Adam
I can totally understand why Erica kept his mouth shut prior to her being let go. I figured it would have to be sooner or later before Eric would at least say something. He is preaching to the choir though, I cannot believe what Latham did to this show in front of the camera and behind it. I am sure alot of wounds still need to heal. I am sure the only actors that enjoyed Latham were Judith Chapman, Don Diamont and Christian LeBlanc. Michale has been reduced to a Gloria babysitter now, if that, and Brad has been reduced to nothing. Which is fine by me. I hope Gloria is reduced to nothing soon too Peter Bergman though publicly sang Latham's praises on a number of occasions.... was he just being a team player??? I can't see how Peter could have been at all happy with what LML did to Jack and the Abbott family. Of all her mistakes, her destruction of the Abbotts was the worse.... That family has pretty much been reduced to nothing.....
Members MTSRocks
LoL, that made me chuckle, given Braeden's quite diva attitude.
Members Adam
I didn't even realize I did that, but it is kind of fitting isn't it? I think I'll leave it in
Members Roman
Even though IA with his statements and sentiments, didn't he also praise her writing and storytelling not too long ago? NOW she almost ruined the show?
Members MTSRocks
LoL, it is! Glad that you're keeping it in lol Roman I think many people (fans included), were happy when LML first came on board (after several dreary months of Jack Smith). She mixed up the characters, and things seemed more innovative, light hearted, intriguing, and fun. However, over the course of time.... well you know what happened lol. Members Roman
That show went downhill when she was made EP. But, it still doesn't pass with the fact that not too long ago, he was singing her praises (If I remember correctly). It just makes it kinda hard to know what to believe. I understand being a team player (And protecting your job above everything), but in the past, he would have slammed her the minute the writing would have gotten bad. I guess the fact that she was EP made it difficult to speak out to the press. Now......they are letting loose.
Members sheilaforever
My take is that his backstage complaints led to Barbie Bloom joining Y&R's writing and eventually LML getting sacked...
