Yeah, right. That shows how much of an independent and "I'm not gonna be told what to do" writer. And spare me those "eyerolls" smileys.

It's not anti-Kay. Go and re-read all those message boards that trashed her stories when she wrote for Y&R. And all of a sudden there's this Kay Alden lovefest... Blah.

Doesn't make a difference if she is told what to do or not. That doesn't affect how she writes what she is told to write about.

And I really really really don't care what people said then--now that they see how bad it can get, they appreciate it more, don't they?

  Do you realise what you've just said?

  What criteria do you have... I'm speechless. The fact that she writes "less badly" doesn't mean that she writes well...

Note: No matter what you reply, I'm stopping here with this silly "debate"...

Cool. Someone has to stop.

Anyways, to answer you question, Kay may be following guidelines from Bell. Now, she could write whatever Bell tells her to write in a way that is nice, clever, more interesting. Question one answered.

The criteria that I have is that I really enjoyed her time on Y&R.

It's in the past. People do change their mind after all. It's like all those people who bashed Kristen Storms on DAYS and were unwilling to give her a chance when she was casted as Maxie Jones on GH. Now, people are touting her as the Best Younger Actress of 2007. Remember people can change their minds, rarely are opinions ever definite, over time they do change. Who's to say Kay Alden isn't a better writer than she was before? I think she's learned from her mistakes, and is more than deserving of a second chance. Plus, when you look at it, a lot of the mistakes she made was blown out of proportion. Yes, the sperm story was insipid, degrading, and downright disgusting to watch, but in her defense, the story never really had a chance of a proper follow through. All the backlash led it to be quietly swept under the rug. Plus, several of Y&R's best scenes came under her tenure, not to mention she wrote the superb takeover storyline, alongside re-igniting the Katherine and Jill feud, giving Eileen Davidson an Emmy winning storyline, and writing probably some of the best material that Kristoff St. John has ever received. I will say that her biggest failure as a writer was the fawning over Eric Braeden/Victor Newman. Centering the show around him was her biggest mistake. In the end, I understand that it's difficult sometimes to give people second chances, but with Alden I'll be more than willing to, especially after such the disastrous last head writer.

I've no personal opinion of Kay Alden because I'm not a longterm Y&R viewer but yeah she's culpable in a way. I still push more towards blaming Brad because of his EP status and the fact that he presumably is having the final say on the tone/breadth of stories.

I just can't fathom Alden coming to B&B, looking at the canvas and saying "Hey you know what's really interesting here? That untapped Brooke/Taylor/Nick/Ridge dynamic. It'll drive the show for months!" It wreaks of the same old [!@#$%^&*] that Brad's been recycling for years.

It annoys me so much because they have one of the best casts they've had in years and we're back to focusing on the same old, same old.
