It takes a big person to admit their foibles. I admire you for acknowleding yours. I realiaze that you got caught up in the arguing and spoke your mind. (And at times there was a lot of silly (imo) arguing and we got off topic) So thank you for that and I hope others can admit there's. If I have offended in any way, I apologize for that. I try to discuss policy and procedure. However when character gets attacked, it is difficult to see the attacker in a positive light. That's why that dinner last night that Obama and McCain attended was a good thing. I hope others saw it or can look up video clips because you saw the man not the politician.

I will watch KO later to see how well he took the jabs McCain took at him and Chris Matthews.

I didn't expect the Rays to win yesterday but it must have been a bummer to see their pitchers blow that 7-0 lead for them. I'd like to see them win because they are baseball's most compelling story and the World Series isn't going to be a big draw without the Yankees. The Red Sox don't even come close to the whole aura of the Yankees. I just wish they hadn't taken Alex Rodriguez. They should have let him go to Boston and win a ring with the Red Sox instead of weighing my team down. Let me stop right there before I get started....Sports suck for me this year (with the exception of the Lakers or make that Kobe getting beaten), nothing is really happening. The NFL is so so in a really bad way....it's uninspiring.

I just got off the phone with a friend who is so anti-Obama and sort of anti-McCain that I know voting will be a drag for her. She's okay with the terrorist charges since it's all politics to her but she did at least draw the line at the phone calls and she doesn't think McCain is responsible for the phone calls. She also disagrees with John Lewis. Then she disagreed with me about whether it was serious or not that some fringe elements were agitated by the charges of terrorism, treason, etc. Then I wondered if she were really my friend or someone masquerading.....so I took the Republican position and said she needed a little waterboarding  No...seriously I said we disagree on that and she changed the subject to people we actually know.....how fun is it to talk about real people...that we know...we're still friends....I guess :lol::lol: Just kidding we are.....I would never let politics ruin a good discussion of CSI and other trivia.

The GOP is on a roll now and I guess they are going to save the nation from Barack Obama and his terrorist friend. I am almost surprised they didn't put a little picture of him next to the FBI wanted pics but then someone might try to capture Obama for a reward or put two and two together and wonder...

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/17/g...r_n_135526.html

This is a link to their little pamphlet about Obama and his terrorist friend. I guess they couldn't find any current pictures of the two of them together.

I did mean to comment on Colin Powell speculation. I don't think he should bother making an endorsement....I just don't think that means a whole lot at this point and he should just vote for his selection and leave it at that. Fox News is already geared up to negate him if he selects Obama anyway. They aired footage of him at some event in England in which he's dancing and performing hip hop for fun. Obviously, there's only one possible reason he could have for selecting Obama. I'm sure Powell could care less about what will be said since he's weathered a bunch of other labels.

This is what I can't figure out. McCain alludes to the fact that this does not interest him. I thought this question was answered at the debate. If McCain does not approve of this tact, then who's the leader of this party? Who's running the show. These are things that make me question the man. This makes me question "Country First" Why are these attacks still going on. Question Obama's take on policy, his views on things. Guilt by association can work both ways. McCain has some suspect associations also and they are not being questioned. (even though Letterman did last night)

The GOP is disgusting for doing this type tactic.

Also, Gregg, I lived in Florida for a few years finishing my graduate degree. Doesn't Charlie get engaged every election cycle? Too bad he has to play games. I think he is a decent guy and a pretty good governor. The insurance thing he bushed for hurricanes may bankrupt the state, but otherwise, he hasn't been bad.

I'm now waiting for someone in the GOP to just come out and say....

"Do you really want this N-word to be president?"

You heard about the woman in California who put out a flyer of Obama on a food stamp, with pictures of fried chicken, watermelon, Kool-Aid and ribs on it?

Hiya Jess. Overall, 'ol Charlie hasn't been too bad. As far as I can tell, he's a moderate and has been working well with the one Dem in his administration (CFO Sink). But I don't know whether to chalk that up to Jeb pushing through the traditional GOP stuff (like One Florida) so he didn't have to do it when he got to Tallahassee.

You're right - he does get involved every election cycle. There was a lot of talk that he was on the short list for VP, which I think motivated some of his statements (like changing his mind on off shore drilling for one). He has made some bad decisions like the insurance issue and pushing for the change in property taxes which in the end, didn't save much at all.

But he's not too bad. He's been very good with the storms that have come through here, making sure everyone has access to help. It could be a lot worse!

I have, Roman. That [!@#$%^&*] is just simply uncalled for.

I think there's something on CNN or CBS website today talking about it. A reporter went to the woman's home and her husband opened the door. She asked them about the watermelon and fried chicken - the guy said he didn't think it was racist. Then her daughter showed up, saying some nonsense about she eats watermelon and fried chicken all the time and it's no big deal. When asked if she knew they were African American stereotypes she said "According to who?". She didn't think it was racist either (big surprise). OH - she did say her Mom isn't racist cuz she married a Mexican.:rolleyes:

Some people.

The campaign took on a lighter tone Thursday night as both candidates delivered hysterical, self-deprecating speeches. Here's the meat of Obama's routine. John McCain, FOX News, Rudy Giuliani and Sarah Palin: You are officially on notice.

"People tell me I share the politics of Alfred E. Smith and the ears of Alfred E. Neuman."

"But I have to say tonight's venue is not what I'm really used to. I was originally told that we would able to move this outdoors to Yankee Stadium. Can someone tell me what happened to the Greek columns I requested?"

"I must say I love the Waldorf Astoria. You know I hear from the doorstep, you can see the Russian Tea Room."

"It's an honor to be here with Al Smith. I obviously never knew your great grandfather, but from everything Sen. McCain has told me...the two of them had a great time together before prohibition. Wonderful stories."

"Now, recently one of John's top advisers told The Daily News that if we keep talking about the economy, McCain's gonna lose. So tonight I'd like to talk about the economy."

"While the collapse of the housing market's been tough on every single homeowner, I think we all need to recognize this crisis has been eight times harder on John McCain."

"Contrary to the rumors you've heard, I was not born in a manger. I was actually born on Krypton, sent here by my father Jor-El, to save the planet Earth."

"Many of you know I got my name, Barack, from my father. What you may not know is Barack is actually Swahali for 'That One.' And I got my middle name from somebody who obviously didn't think I'd ever run for President."

"I have never put lipstick on a pig. Or a pitbull. Or myself. Rudy Giuliani: That's one for you. I mean, who would have thought that a cross-dressing mayor from New York City would have a tough time running for the Republican nomination. It's shocking. That was a tough primary you had there, John."

"But I know Senator McCain agrees that some of the rumors are getting a bit crazy. I mean, Rupert the other, Fox News actually accused me of fathering two African-American children in wedlock."

Awesome.

I told a friend of mine about that yesterday and she started laughing then she asked me if I noticed that she was laughing. But she laughs at just about anything as long as there's no violence or threat of violence. It's kind of an interesting contrast to me because that article to which GGL posted the link, mentioned a woman who said she cried for 45 minutes over that.

The reality is that it's better to know that there are people out there like that than to be under the impression that everything is fine.....and yes it would be better if things were a whole lot different.....maybe one day they will be but one day could be a very long time from now. In the meantime, an overt bigot is better than a covert one.

Just because the woman's married to a Mexican, it doesn't mean she's not a racist. And who knows how many times she may remind her husband that she married a Mexican. People kill me when they use that logic. If a person's not a racist then saying it is enough since you ultimately discern people by their actions and not by their words.

Would Popeye's work better for you?:lol:

Would Popeye's work better for you?:lol:

of course. It (Popeye's) originated in New Orleans. There's one on just about every corner :lol::lol:

The woman who cried was actually a member of that club. She happened to be AA. She let the president know how hurtful it was to her. I guess it would be if it's you circle of friends.

I saw that as demeaning, but the more you think about it, it's the small mind that creates those kinds of things and then tries to rationalize when it goes awry. I bet she probably thought it was a cute joke shared among friends. (or club members who in this case weren't voting for Obama) it just backfired on her.

    • Something that I love about Dani is that despite her issues with Bill, she's always encouraged her daughters to have a relationship with him. I also believe that she does have a great amount of love for him which is why she is so hurt that he's sick. I've loved them including her in his recovery. It feels real and their chemistry is just insane so any chance for more of it is welcomed. That would be the perfect karma. Kat needs to learn boundaries and not be so impulsive, but I still feel like the Duprees are going to clear Leslie. How? I don't know, but that's what I think is going to happen. I feel like she'll get some kind of blackmail over them which will cause them to clear the slate. Of course the show never goes where you expect so I'm sure they'll do something different but I'm definitely curious how she will manage this.
    • Darn you Jane Elliot...you have me crying...that's how superb her acting is in these scenes with Gio. Speak on it.
    • The story has been glossed over and taken over by the lunacy redux. I wonder if they noticed how poorly the ratings are with the Liam story and went all lunacy.
    • @soapfan770Thank you so much for posting that! I know the final season of Falcon Crest is controversial but I thought it was a fantastic swing that mostly worked. The only thing that would've made it better is if they had more money which hopefully could've kept Emma full season. I feel like that was her strongest arc since season one and I wish she had remained so we could've seen her as a mother. I also wish they had more Angela but that was obviously out of their control. As different as it was, I felt season 9 to be very true to the initial gothic roots of the series.
    • You know what? I was just thinking of Klymaxx the day before you typed this and chuckled. I do love how it keeps twisting and turning, getting juicier (Eva hiding everything, knowing her mama did it only for Kat to get the goods, thinking it's Eva...not helped by her hope that it IS Eva) rather than contrived.    This. AM's acting as Eva is just so reminiscent of SMG's version of Kendall on AMC for me. She's totally going to go on to bigger and better things. She has so much nuances in her scenes.    Yeah, I really like that they played the beat of Ty wondering if Jessica was using him. I wouldn't have minded that, but we have done it before so I guess it is nice to see it is not a trick. I do wonder where it will go from here.   Thank you for the tip on Chelesa. I'm already intrigued on the stuff with Madison so Hmmmm.
    • Leslie is going to get off because of Kat.
    • If a soap actor or behind the scenes figure was roasted at any point in time, who would you have at the main table? This topic came about when I imagined a Friends episode (Joey, of course, would bomb at roasting). The Roast of Deidre Hall, circa 1997 Roastmaster: Drake Hogestyn Roasters: Jed Allan, Wayne Northrop, Joseph Mascolo, Eileen Davidson, Christie Clark, Alison Sweeney, Ken Corday, James E. Reilly, Andrea Hall, Jane Elliot, James Reynolds, Shannen Doherty, Wilford Brimley, and Frances Reid.
    • Amanda has been giving it to Abby ever since her and Chance walked in on them together. So great to hear.   I can see that. Lily and Damian are always a highlight to me.
    • I recall @Chris B asking about this but here is an interview Sheri Anderson did with SOU back in the fall of ‘89: Here is an article that I think is interesting, it is an interview with Shery Anderson, screenwriter of the ninth season THE WRITE STUFF: FALCON CREST’S SHERI ANDERSON: FROM DAYS TO NIGHTTIME By Richard Spencer Soap Opera Update, 1989 : At a time when the success of nighttime soaps is shaky, Sheri Anderson, former headwriter for DAYS OF OUR UVES, ANOTHER WORLD, GUIDING LIGHT and GENERAL HOSPITAL, makes the jump to the evening format with some new ideas to help strenthen the CBS California vineyard based soap opera FALCON CREST. "FALCON CREST is going to have a differnet tone that it never had before," headwriter Sheri Anderson expiains. "The people that I am working with are kind of an interesting mix. The executive producer, Joel Sumow, did the first years of MIAMI VICE and THE EQUALIZER, Bob Cochran, a Harvard MBA,and Cyrus Nowrasteh, who has done a number of features, are story editors. I am co-porducer, with a history in daytime, so we are a real different mix. We all kind of balance each other out in different ways. I am sort of the emotional side (coming from daytime) and they are more the gritty side." A lack of focus is what Sheri attributes to FALCON CREST's problems the last few seasons. "No one , seemed to knwo that the characters' motivations were. Pilar was a real good example. No one seemed to know what she wanted. This season it is clear that Pilar wants Lance. That is really her dream and goal tokeep Lance. She will do anything to do that. She will be making some sacrifices thís season that really jeopardize her relationship with Lance." While Pilar's character may be strongly in place, Maggie's is not. How will the show restructure in light of Maggie's drowning? " We are not trying to replace her, but we are adding another kind of strong heroine character. That character is Laruren Daniels. She's very earthy; married to a construction worker. Lauren. is the sister of Michael Sharp, Gregory Harrison's new character. "Michael is an extremely powerful adversary to Richard Channing. He will be more cynical than Richard and less emotionally motivated. For Michael it is all power and money. The audience will be more sympathetic toward Richard. He will be going through hell," Sheri reveáis with doom in her voice, "...Paying for his past sins " The complete opposite of Richard or Michael's intensity is the the new character of Charlíe St. James."Charlie is every woman's foolish choice," Sheri character sketches. "He's kind of indescribable; charismatic, totally unpredictable, charming, unnervtng. He's coming in as a love interest for Emma. He will be the first man to make Emma feel like a woman. She's really not victimized by him...she’s addicted to him. Charlie's presence will make her a little less flakey this season." But Emma is not the only one in store for major personality changes, also in the categroy is Frank. "We arebringing back somebody from his past," Sheri reveals "there will be a great secret that will come to ight." Speaking of characters from the past, are there any Sheri would like to return? "Everyone is fond of Ana-Alicia in her original role. At this point we don't have any plans to bring her back because we have some other character that are going to take the forefront." And if one thing is going to remain the same, it will be what Sheri recognizes as the theme of FALCON CREST "Quest for control of Falcon Crest. We have people trying to take control, and they are all taking it for different reasons. Some are emotioanl, some are revenge, but they each have a different eason for which they want Falcon Crest. And that is really the pivotal center. It is very earthy." Keeping the core of lite show intact is not the only thing nighttime shows have to do to stay interesting and acording to Sheri"I din't think night time shows have kept paces with changes in the viewing audience," Sheri answers by analyzing what exactly is primetime soaps* problem. ln datyime, you do over the years the shows stay on, but you are adapting to what people are accepting:faster-paced, or slower, or addíng more comedy, depending on the audience, and what they are buying. I don't think some of these shows in primetime have done that "We are trying to make the show as much episodio as it is continuing. We are cutting down the number of scenes in each act to get the audience more involved. But some of the shows, and this happens in daytime al so, don’t let the characters really grow," Sheri certainly made chracters develop during her daytime career, but especially on DAYS OF OUR LIVES, which is the source for her favourite stories of her careen ”When Víctor carne to Salem and revealed tha the was really Bo’s father, it caused such a ripple effect for Kim, Shane, Román, Bo, Hope, Caroline and Sean. I also liked bringing Kayla back for Patch.” Having written for Kristian Alfonso' s Hope (DAYS) and now Pilar on FC, Sheri distínguishes between the two characters. "Pilar is a woman, but Hope was growing up. Hope was more innocent and Pilar is not Pilar has an intelligent strength where Hope did all the wrong things for all the right reasons." Pilar wíll be the only one retuming from her family, while Angela Channing’s appearances will be limited (per Jane Wyman's contract). "But Richard will be taking a very strong role which is very similar to Angela Angelad presence will be felt in every epísode/ Sheri informs. A lot of people complained about the women of FALCON CREST being wishy-washy They certainly aren't this season Sheri emphasizes. "Lauren will be strong, especially after her brother Michael steais Richard’s children and places them with her, Frnak’s step daughter will be very devious, indicateive of Kathleen Turner in “Body Heat” And Gregory Harrison is fabulous," Sheri reports with joy. "He is so different from his character on TRAPPER JOHN, M.D He is very similar to Michael Douglas in the film 'Wall Street'. FALCON CREST viewers will find a much richer textrae, getting away from the glamour and really going to substance and style." Sheri concludes, "it will be a show to watch, We are trying to bring in a new audience, and at the same time, respect our past audience."
