Members Roman
When Ortiz hit that homer, that just took the sails right out of the Rays. They better win tomorrow night. If not, it's over for them.
Members UCLAN
It takes a big person to admit their foibles. I admire you for acknowleding yours. I realiaze that you got caught up in the arguing and spoke your mind. (And at times there was a lot of silly (imo) arguing and we got off topic) So thank you for that and I hope others can admit there's. If I have offended in any way, I apologize for that. I try to discuss policy and procedure. However when character gets attacked, it is difficult to see the attacker in a positive light. That's why that dinner last night that Obama and McCain attended was a good thing. I hope others saw it or can look up video clips because you saw the man not the politician. Members Wales2004
I will watch KO later to see how well he took the jabs McCain took at him and Chris Matthews. I didn't expect the Rays to win yesterday but it must have been a bummer to see their pitchers blow that 7-0 lead for them. I'd like to see them win because they are baseball's most compelling story and the World Series isn't going to be a big draw without the Yankees. The Red Sox don't even come close to the whole aura of the Yankees. I just wish they hadn't taken Alex Rodriguez. They should have let him go to Boston and win a ring with the Red Sox instead of weighing my team down. Let me stop right there before I get started....Sports suck for me this year (with the exception of the Lakers or make that Kobe getting beaten), nothing is really happening. The NFL is so so in a really bad way....it's uninspiring. I just got off the phone with a friend who is so anti-Obama and sort of anti-McCain that I know voting will be a drag for her. She's okay with the terrorist charges since it's all politics to her but she did at least draw the line at the phone calls and she doesn't think McCain is responsible for the phone calls. She also disagrees with John Lewis. Then she disagreed with me about whether it was serious or not that some fringe elements were agitated by the charges of terrorism, treason, etc. Then I wondered if she were really my friend or someone masquerading.....so I took the Republican position and said she needed a little waterboarding No...seriously I said we disagree on that and she changed the subject to people we actually know.....how fun is it to talk about real people...that we know...we're still friends....I guess Just kidding we are.....I would never let politics ruin a good discussion of CSI and other trivia. Members Wales2004
The GOP is on a roll now and I guess they are going to save the nation from Barack Obama and his terrorist friend. I am almost surprised they didn't put a little picture of him next to the FBI wanted pics but then someone might try to capture Obama for a reward or put two and two together and wonder... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/17/g...r_n_135526.html This is a link to their little pamphlet about Obama and his terrorist friend. I guess they couldn't find any current pictures of the two of them together. I did mean to comment on Colin Powell speculation. I don't think he should bother making an endorsement....I just don't think that means a whole lot at this point and he should just vote for his selection and leave it at that. Fox News is already geared up to negate him if he selects Obama anyway. They aired footage of him at some event in England in which he's dancing and performing hip hop for fun. Obviously, there's only one possible reason he could have for selecting Obama. I'm sure Powell could care less about what will be said since he's weathered a bunch of other labels. Members UCLAN
This is what I can't figure out. McCain alludes to the fact that this does not interest him. I thought this question was answered at the debate. If McCain does not approve of this tact, then who's the leader of this party? Who's running the show. These are things that make me question the man. This makes me question "Country First" Why are these attacks still going on. Question Obama's take on policy, his views on things. Guilt by association can work both ways. McCain has some suspect associations also and they are not being questioned. (even though Letterman did last night)
Members Jess
The GOP is disgusting for doing this type tactic. Also, Gregg, I lived in Florida for a few years finishing my graduate degree. Doesn't Charlie get engaged every election cycle? Too bad he has to play games. I think he is a decent guy and a pretty good governor. The insurance thing he bushed for hurricanes may bankrupt the state, but otherwise, he hasn't been bad. Members Roman
I'm now waiting for someone in the GOP to just come out and say.... "Do you really want this N-word to be president?" You heard about the woman in California who put out a flyer of Obama on a food stamp, with pictures of fried chicken, watermelon, Kool-Aid and ribs on it? Members Greg's GL
Hiya Jess. Overall, 'ol Charlie hasn't been too bad. As far as I can tell, he's a moderate and has been working well with the one Dem in his administration (CFO Sink). But I don't know whether to chalk that up to Jeb pushing through the traditional GOP stuff (like One Florida) so he didn't have to do it when he got to Tallahassee. You're right - he does get involved every election cycle. There was a lot of talk that he was on the short list for VP, which I think motivated some of his statements (like changing his mind on off shore drilling for one). He has made some bad decisions like the insurance issue and pushing for the change in property taxes which in the end, didn't save much at all. But he's not too bad. He's been very good with the storms that have come through here, making sure everyone has access to help. It could be a lot worse!
Members Greg's GL
I have, Roman. That [!@#$%^&*] is just simply uncalled for. I think there's something on CNN or CBS website today talking about it. A reporter went to the woman's home and her husband opened the door. She asked them about the watermelon and fried chicken - the guy said he didn't think it was racist. Then her daughter showed up, saying some nonsense about she eats watermelon and fried chicken all the time and it's no big deal. When asked if she knew they were African American stereotypes she said "According to who?". She didn't think it was racist either (big surprise). OH - she did say her Mom isn't racist cuz she married a Mexican. Some people.
Members Roman
The campaign took on a lighter tone Thursday night as both candidates delivered hysterical, self-deprecating speeches. Here's the meat of Obama's routine. John McCain, FOX News, Rudy Giuliani and Sarah Palin: You are officially on notice. "People tell me I share the politics of Alfred E. Smith and the ears of Alfred E. Neuman." "But I have to say tonight's venue is not what I'm really used to. I was originally told that we would able to move this outdoors to Yankee Stadium. Can someone tell me what happened to the Greek columns I requested?" "I must say I love the Waldorf Astoria. You know I hear from the doorstep, you can see the Russian Tea Room." "It's an honor to be here with Al Smith. I obviously never knew your great grandfather, but from everything Sen. McCain has told me...the two of them had a great time together before prohibition. Wonderful stories." "Now, recently one of John's top advisers told The Daily News that if we keep talking about the economy, McCain's gonna lose. So tonight I'd like to talk about the economy." "While the collapse of the housing market's been tough on every single homeowner, I think we all need to recognize this crisis has been eight times harder on John McCain." "Contrary to the rumors you've heard, I was not born in a manger. I was actually born on Krypton, sent here by my father Jor-El, to save the planet Earth." "Many of you know I got my name, Barack, from my father. What you may not know is Barack is actually Swahali for 'That One.' And I got my middle name from somebody who obviously didn't think I'd ever run for President." "I have never put lipstick on a pig. Or a pitbull. Or myself. Rudy Giuliani: That's one for you. I mean, who would have thought that a cross-dressing mayor from New York City would have a tough time running for the Republican nomination. It's shocking. That was a tough primary you had there, John." "But I know Senator McCain agrees that some of the rumors are getting a bit crazy. I mean, Rupert the other, Fox News actually accused me of fathering two African-American children in wedlock." Awesome.

Members Wales2004
I told a friend of mine about that yesterday and she started laughing then she asked me if I noticed that she was laughing. But she laughs at just about anything as long as there's no violence or threat of violence. It's kind of an interesting contrast to me because that article to which GGL posted the link, mentioned a woman who said she cried for 45 minutes over that. The reality is that it's better to know that there are people out there like that than to be under the impression that everything is fine.....and yes it would be better if things were a whole lot different.....maybe one day they will be but one day could be a very long time from now. In the meantime, an overt bigot is better than a covert one. Just because the woman's married to a Mexican, it doesn't mean she's not a racist. And who knows how many times she may remind her husband that she married a Mexican. People kill me when they use that logic. If a person's not a racist then saying it is enough since you ultimately discern people by their actions and not by their words. Would Popeye's work better for you? Members UCLAN
Would Popeye's work better for you? of course. It (Popeye's) originated in New Orleans. There's one on just about every corner The woman who cried was actually a member of that club. She happened to be AA. She let the president know how hurtful it was to her. I guess it would be if it's you circle of friends. I saw that as demeaning, but the more you think about it, it's the small mind that creates those kinds of things and then tries to rationalize when it goes awry. I bet she probably thought it was a cute joke shared among friends. (or club members who in this case weren't voting for Obama) it just backfired on her.
