The intolorance is shameful. But I do feel that our young Americans are going to reallt step up and vote en masse in less than 3 weeks. Things like this will not stand, and these "cultural police" are, as Cheney would say, "In the last throws........"

That answer that McCain had to abortion last night did not make him look good. I may have slightly understodd what he was trying to say, but he sure didn't say it well at all. That, and his temperment, are the two things everyone is talking about this morning.

And let them keep doing it.

With the Dow dropping as much as it is every day, the more they mention this bullshit the more it makes them seem out of touch with what is really going on.

They counted how many times McCain blinked and I'm pretty sure the greatest hits are on youtube. I watched a clip earlier of the new Obama ad....a negative one.....starring blinking McCain, but it's actually a good ad.....according to me and what do I know? See for yourselves:

That's okay ramble on.

I think the big difference this election is tht the Republicans have totally misjudged the electorate. I beleive that people are more tolerant. I think that the Repubs didn't get that. The messages of hate and intolerance are basically falling on deaf ears. The last 8 years of "morality based" governance failed.

Last night's debate showed that people are looking for answers, not criticisms, repudiations or character attacks.

Yeah it was McCain's best debate performance, but his message lacked substance. And while I empathize with Joe plumber, enough already.

So, as you can see, I watched the debate as the Dodgers started losing in the early part of the game.

I don't feel sorry for that plumber. He's working his fifteen minutes of fame and he's misinformed anyway so I don't think taxes are that much of a concern for him. According to both ABC and MSNBC, if he's telling the truth about his finances then he'd actually be receiving a tax cut under Obama's plan. He was on GMA criticizing the plan and saying it was unfair that people should be taxed more for their success......I think it's unfair to pay taxes period but that's life. He claimed that Obama could change his mind and go after people with $150,000 and to me that's the same as saying any politician could change his or her mind and not do what they say they will. The unfortunate thing for Joe is that people are now diigging into his personal business so hopefully his moment in the sun will be worth it to him and at least McCain's pandering paid off for him since Joe will vote for him. The United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters has endorsed Obama though.

Here's the clip with Joe and Katie Couric:

IA. This is in no way close to the real problems all of us are facing, and it may actually drive more fence-sitters to the Dems. But my concern is this. All this hatred and attacks has to do is get to one very unstable individual for something horrible to come of it. There could be a mentally unbalanced person out there now, watching people shout "terrorist" and "kill him", watching the attack ad from McCain that says Obama is "too risky" and sending him over the edge. That's scary to me.

I liked that ad. I thought it was very good.

Did you see McCain's new ad further down on the page?

I sincerely hope that you're right and the electorate are more open-minded. I believe that the younger generation is infinitely more accepting than others because of the era in which they grew up. I like your term "morality based governance", UCLAN.

On a more personal note - regarding tolerance. If my father, of all people, can not only accept my boyfriend into his home but actually consider him part of our family is a testimonial that even the most close-minded person can change when the environment is right. A few years ago, there was a news article in the local paper about 2 lesbians wanting to adopt and you could have knocked my Mom and me over with a feather when my father announced "Why don't they just leave them alone and let them live their lives like everyone else!" :o:o And thankfully, I haven't heard him calling African Americans any derogatory terms lately either. Or else I'd have to put him in his place. And I'm big enough to do it now!

There is talk that he's a plant. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it turned out he was put there by the RNC or even better, McCain's campaign. Maybe this will be our "October Surprise"?!?!? That Mr. Joe-The-Plumber is actually a political operative and lobbyist that lives in Washington, DC. Hmmmmm.

Oh, OK. I went back to see your comments....

We are very much in agreement here, my friend. I was raised Protestant (Congregationalist) and in my teen years, attended a Southern Baptist (!) church. The reason for the switch was because I was struggling so much with who I was and I didn't want to accept it. But the Baptist beliefs were doing me more harm than good. I was extremely depressed and irritable, knowing that I couldn't change but that God would never accept me as I am(according to them). I've since gotten away from organized religion and am still very spiritual in my daily life. I find God in the birds that come into my yard, the love of my family, friends and neighbors, the butterfly landing on a newly opened bloom. Those kind of things give me spiritual peace and have enlightened me way beyond what my time in the church was able to.

Based on the change in my father over the last few years, I'd say you're right!! :D

I got my advanced voting ballot today. I was surprised to see there were two other presidential noms baldwin/castle for the reform party and Barr/Root for the libertarian party. Anybody know anything about these people? This will be the first time I will actually get to vote since last time was so messed up.

It wasn't there before but since you tipped me off, I did go back and see it so yes. The ad would be good if McCain came across as more natural. Even though he doesn't mention Obama blaming things on Washington makes no sense since he's been there "working for us" for years. I think one of his problems is the notion that he's something fresh and different since he obviously isn't and doesn't look it for sure.

His length of service is more problematic for him than Obama's is for him because McCain's been there long enough for people to wonder if he's got the answers why didn't he share them with Bush or others or fight harder for them. Pointing out that Biden's been wrong on things doesn't make him look any more right. It just shows that he can find fault with others.

I don't think he is. He lives in a neighborhood that Obama canvassed. In their exchange, Obama seems to acknowledge that Joe probably won't vote for him but he says he will work for Joe anyway. McCain's people probably looked at tape and decided that this was a good angle for him. It might have been had he presented Joe as a middle class guy trying to make it but Joe works for a company and has no plumbing license nor does he need one since he's not running his own business. There are probably many people looking to start their own businesses but right now there are more people out of work or worried about finances so I don't think Joe's story hits home with the majority of people presently, McCain didn't bother to try and appeal to the middle class.

I guess there is the possibility though that the McCain campaign could have contacted Joe after seeing the tape and found that Joe could be their one man commercial since he's singing their tune while saying he won't reveal for whom he'll cast his vote.....which really is a no brainer based on what he said. I'd believe he was actually neutral if he did the general thing in pointing out that he wasn't gung ho about either but that McCain's tax plan did make more sense to him. The things he said about Obama was really along the lines of I don't know who he is but I know who McCain is and I know who Palin is and Biden but I don't like what Biden says.

    • 6-6   Hmmmm. Not my favorite of the week. However, it showed the strength of Jazmen's script writing against RC's breakdown. And he's good enough to rise above almost all of RC's tics. Though I guess the real question would be would I have caught 'Carl' author thing if I had not heard it mentioned here?

I felt the stories moved and while there were situations, they weren't the slapsticky I would expect from a RC breakdown. Well-done, Jazmen.   I guess I liked it on a second viewing. I'm just sorry that outside of Bill's subplot and Chelesa's love life C plot, it did not continue the majority of the stories that were going on this week. I still liked what I got so I guess it was worth it for potential flow interruption. Though I have to note that Eva and Kat have been dancing around each other all week and since it is a by-product of the SilkPress storyline, I love how the story can be used separate from the main part of that plot, which kept this episode with a thread attached to the main stories of this week.   It has been a minute since I saw a situation where a character has to get into someone's room and it seems plausible. Of course, Kat has to use her family name. That said...those scenes did not seem implausible at all, but that could be my industry experience showing. Meanwhile, Eva and Tomas continue to grow closer. But even I had to side-eye when he finally declared his interest for Kat. Because it seem like he had been working hard to give mixed signals to Eva and Kat. And NOW he's devoted to Kat? And I am smh at Kat thinking Eva is the one who ran Laura off the road now. Just le sigh. BUT keeps their rivalry going if she accuses Eva and it turns out to be false. Eva will be looking for the payback. And she will be justified.   I know I'm in the minority, but I enjoyed the Doug/Vanessa/Joey scenes. I've mentioned it before, but of all the B stories, it was the only one that was given enough room to grow and had a build to it. And you could cut the tension in that room with a knife. Everyone gave a good performance. You could see the distance between Doug and Vanessa. And for all that drama...there still was more to play with the other shoe dropping of Doug finding out Vanessa and Joey slept together. Just juicy. Even if the end goal apparently seems to be money laundering.   Lord...Bill wasn't really even out of the hospital for an episode without having to go back in again, was he? lol. Good to see his separate story progressing.    Same for Chelesa and her love life. I'm not sure if Naomi is right. That said, I do like the cliffhanger of Mystery Woman being Bill's doctor. Not to mention Kat with the evidence.
    • Speaking of 1986, YT recommended me some 1986 episodes revolving around Kyle/Reva/Maeve/Fletcher/Cain. What struck me most about the episodes is Zimmer seems at a loss. This does not feel like Reva at all. Was Kyle always such an a-hole? Why was the pairing so popular? He's so unlikeable, and Malloy's theatrical acting does not help matters. Jay Hammer is extremely charming as Fletcher--did they ever try Reva and Fletcher? The real star of these episodes is Leslie Denniston. When she tells Kyle she wants a divorce, it's a fantastic scene and Denniston is putting in some great work while the stuff around her is just weird and off-putting.
    • The Day Of The Jackal author Frederick Forsyth dies
    • 6-5   Case in point...lol.   Kat and Jacob can soooo have a spinoff. Just watching her being adamant that Eva is up to no-good while Jacob continues to try to play straight man to the craziness continued to be a hoot to watch. And the sad part is that Kat is on the right trail, just following the wrong clues. Or worse coming to the wrong conclusion. All because of her dislike for Eva.    Meanwhile, Eva continued to make inroads. I know I have said this since the start of the show, but I love how for the most part, the writers write the characters in gray. Not completely white. Not completely black. Most of the characters have moments where they resonate with the audience and then have moments where they are unlikeable. Like technically, Eva should be a pariah. I like that she knows this, understands this, and still shows remorse and still tries to work to get back the lost trust. It makes her so rootable. And played by a star is a bonus.

It is also what makes the rivalry between Eva and Kat so much fun to watch. Also played by a star. Neither one is perfect really, but they are oh so watchable and a nice by-product of the SilkPress storyline.    Same for Anita. I love the regal coldness TT has given to the role. The sense of ruthlessness beneath the beautiful face. And yeah it can be a turn-off. And it's been nice to see a softer side to her throughout this story of her and her bandmates. She is far from perfect. She...is also NOT a doormat so it was great to watch her versus her bandmates this episode.    I like the run-in between NuTed and Nicole. I'm getting used to NuTed. And Nicole's presence has been a little too light for my liking. I can only assume that is to build to the next Nicole vs Silk Press Sheila confrontation which rumor has it will be another good one.    Speaking of which...LAURA IS OUT OF THE HOSPITAL!!!! Praise it be!!! And I thought it was so adorable that Nicole, Kat, and Mona were on hand to welcome her back. I liked that Laura has an open mind toward Eva (unlike her feelings toward SilkPress). Another layer to add to the Eva vs Kat rivalry.
    • Victoria Principal clearly stacked her Dallas coins real good. In the grand scheme of things, she was smart to walk away from Dallas when she did.
    • When Robert Calhoun became EP I thought GL was finally hitting its stride after some pretty rough years. Unfortunately the ratings during Robert Calhoun's run did not reflect the quality of the show.
    • There was a five week break between the last Friday episode and the Thursday episodes which were the final four episodes. I have a feeling the final four episodes were refilmed to wrap up the storylines.
    • Yes, I forgot there was a gap between his exit from GL and his start at ATWT. This almost makes me want to cry. He really turned ATWT around (and good for them). It would have been great if someone had done the same for GL. Can't imagine who. The Dobsons were doing Santa Barbara at this point. I mainly blame Kobe. She may not have been the worst EP they ever had, but she almost totally destroyed the Bauers and decimated much of the rest of the cast, sometimes for egotistical reasons. That was a huge mistake and made it that much harder for the show to recover.
    • Douglas Marland began at As the World Turns in September 1985 but it took about a year for his run to show growth in the ratings. 1986 As the World Turns becomes CBS's #2 daytime drama after Y&R.
