Members bandbfan
That's the problem that I'm bringing up. Nobody wants to look at it deeply. It doesn't have anything to do with my school specifically. I'm just using it as an example to say that there are amazing teachers who get the short end of the stick because nobody wants to look at problem but teachers. It's human nature to blaim the first thing we see. Like the doctor example I used before. Or if you buy something from a store and it breaks, when in reality that store had nothing to do with the actual manufacturing of that product. It's easy to point fingers at the person/thing that you're most familiar with.
Members cct
Thank you, wost. I honestly appreciate it. And I'm not sure who made the above comments you quoted, but I think that is horrible as well. I try to not read the liberal or conservative blogs much, because much of it is full of nasty slams and unnecessary focus like this. This is the exact reason why I have enjoyed coming to this thread each day during this election season. For the most part, we stay out of the fray. I do not follow Roman's links, as most of them have linked to biased sources; on occasion, I have followed one when I've noticed the source or he/she has been kind enough to note the source. I've also seen some of the last few, because they seem to be more impartial. I have made the decision for my candidate based on my consideration of the party's platform. However, I will be honest and admit that the primary reason I have chosen my candidate is for his ability (for the most part) to stay above the fray, as I think we tend to err on the positive side of on this board. I think Barack Obama shows a lot of class for doing this, both with Hillary in the primary and McCain in the general election. When the mud starts flying, as it first did with Hillary, the media will always find him, bring it to his attention (as if he didn't know), and then Obama responds in a respectful manner. I like to think he will carry out his term with the same dignity and compassion, despite any obstacles he faces there. Therefore, I have tried to emulate this manner in my conversations about the election. No, I do not appreciate the Republican side flaunting Bristol Palin's "decision," but I quickly turn the conversation back around. No, I do not like McCain taking this silly sex ed ad seriously, but I tell my friends that is neither here nor there. No, I don't even like when "Democrats," like the one you quoted above call Sarah Palin names because she lives in Alaska, enjoys hunting, or participated in a beauty pageant. I will always, however, ask that we return our attention to respectfully discussing the candidates and the real issues at hand, such as Iraq, the economy, health care, and education. If all Americans would do so, then the right person will end up in office, Republican or Democrat.
Members GoldenDogs
Wait... her middle name is Louise? Why, I feel I hardly know this woman! It's an outrage! <<shakes fist at computer screen>>
Members cct
Well, if you want to get into ed talk, (and who does in a Presidential election thread, right?), then what part of the problem do you want to look at? Since you can't legislate how parents raise their children, you will never be able to fix the parent problem you are so clearly referring to in your posts. Yes, Louise! As in "Thelma and." Wait, does this make McCain Thelma?
Members George008
I am somewhat offended by Palin being referred to as Sarah Louise. I see that as a deliberate attempt to link her with Mary Louise Parker! You are trying to say Sarah Palin is a bad actress!
Members bandbfan
I honestly don't know that. I know that you can't legislate to parents, other than mandating school attendance. That's a problem. When there's nothing else that can be realistically fixed, what do you do.
Members GoldenDogs
Okay... you win. You make too much sense and are far too rational for me to argue... OMG, you have disarmed me... LOL! Seriously, I will refer to him as either Barack or Obama. But never as Barack Obama, so help me.... Why, I outta... <<shakes fist yet again at the computer!>> Thanks for being cool, cct... Members cct
Hm. I could be wrong about that, but I always thought Bush liked being referred to as "W." Made him seem folksy. Hm. As I said in my previous post, though, I would not have ever had issue with wost calling him Barry, had he not been the only one doing it. I guess once someone opens the floodgates...the slippery slope if you will. Of course for that matter, maybe wost doesn't want to be wost, and I need to be typing wostwebmaster or WWM? Members GoldenDogs
Actually... I kind of see Ann Coulter in the Thelma role. I can see her hair blowing freely from the back of a convertible. John McCain, actually, could fill the Brad Pitt role and... ...well, maybe not.
