I'm saying that it is the easy way out to blaim teachers. Parents don't want to take responsibilty for what they aren't doing.

IMO, blaiming teachers is like suing doctors for mal-practice. WAY too widespread. There are legitimate cases where teachers are horrible and kids do suffer. But they're being made into the scape-goat no matter what the actual situation is.

Ok....2003 was 6%. We're at 5.7% now. Do you think it's going to go down from here?

I hope so. I couldn't tell you for sure.

Where do you think we would be if Clinton policies were in place during the war, mortgage crisis, oil prices, and 9/11? Wouldn't be pretty.......

Let's get Obama in there!...he will tax more than Clinton...sounds good to me...

Why is he Barry H. now? Where has the H. come from?

And for that matter, you've been calling him Barry all through this thread; it's condescending. Would you mind if we called your guy Johnny? Or your veep contender Sarah Louise? I wouldn't dare do that, because I am not familiar enough with the man nor woman to address him or her as such. I would hope that you could afford the other side the same amount of respect. NO ONE, in this entire campaign season, that I have heard from has addressed Barack Obama as Barry but you. It's not funny nor cute. I respectfully ask that you cease this tactic within this thread.

P.S. and a snide "BaRACK Obama" would not suffice either.

LOL

Clinton's "Community Reinvestment Act"---Subprime Mortgage Crisis

The Democrats, under Clinton, strengthened a government-created monster called the "Community Reinvestment Act." This law was then used by "activists" and "community organizers" (like Obama?) to coerce lending institutions to make these bad loans ... millions of them.

I'll use the gun argument of people pulling the trigger. These companies are the ones who actually made these loans.

I'm also kind of put off by this. And the H is implying Hussein. Are we STILL trying to connect him to the muslim religion?

I would read nothing into what the market did today, as many financial experts have talked about. The market has done this a lot, dropping big time, and then rallying, only to drop again.

Republicans did not give him the name Hussein...His mother did. Was she trying to link him to Islam?

I think this is just HILLARIOUS!! I have never heard of a politician that couldn't be referred to by his full name!!! How ridiculous is that? His name is off limits!!!

I'll use the gun argument of people pulling the trigger. These companies are the ones who actually made these loans.

True...but keep in mind which party did the coercion.

Obviously there is a negative connotation when used in a certain manner. Is it normal to call people by their middle name, unless that's what they go by? Of course not. We don't called GWB "Walker" or BC "Jefferson." Why would anybody WANT to do this?

Also, the originally Community Reinvestment Act was opposed by big banks. Yet they were all over it handing out the loans...

I've heard McCain called John Sydney McCain several times...

I've heard Clinton called William Jefferson Clinton several times..John Fitzgerald Kennedy...Ronald Wilson Reagan..Frankin Delano Roosevelt.....Dwight David Eisenhower...etc....

Fact is most middle names of Presidents are known and used....Obama is the only one that seems to want to "hide" his...

Ok, maybe so. I don't profess to know the situation in your high school, and I may be reading too deeply into your comments based on some conversations I had at work today. I do not blame teachers solely for the reason why education is the way it is. I also blame adminstrators, communities, parents, students, government, etc. The problem is far too complex to base on one factor. Unfortunately, no one wants to look at this issue very deeply right now in this Presidential election. That's OK; the school house is only where it all starts. (snark)

They understood the implications (reason for their initial opposition)....then they also understood the implications to their "community image" if they did not comply and follow suit.

I'm not trying to hide his middle name; I was only curious where the H. came from all of the sudden. Now I know where...question answered.

bandb raises an interesting point, though.

Again, it is all about the connotation. People know how they mean it when they say it. If you truly don't mean anything negative, then okay, say it all you want.

And by saying Barry H, you are implying that his last name is Hussein, which is just wanting to make the "connection" that much clearer.

I will admit that I've referred to GWB as George W. But that again, is a different connotation. I don't mean to draw attention to his middle name at all. It just sounds "country" and he fits that image.

Like it or not his father is muslim. His middle name is Hussein...negative connotation or not, the connection is there.

Ehh, when has Wall Street cared about its image? Enron didn't care about its image when it was being run into the ground.

Well... I might consider ceasing the tactic for you, cct. But I think calling him Barry is mild compared to what has been said of Sarah Palin and her family...

"...she is their hardcore pornographic centerfold spread," columnist Cintra Wilson wrote in Salon. "She's such a power-mad, backwater beauty-pageant casualty, it's easy to write her off and make fun of her. But in reality I feel as horrified as a ghetto Jew watching the rise of National Socialism."

Palin appeals to "the white trash vote" with her "toned-down version of the porn actress look. Husband Todd looks like a roughneck. . . What normal father would want Levi 'I'm a [bleeping] redneck' Johnson prodding his daughter?"

"She's friends with all the teenage boys. You have to say no when your kids say, 'Can we sleep over at the Palins?' No! NO!"

"Her greatest hypocrisy is in her pretense that she is a woman."

I'm sorry you're offended by my references of your candidates nickname... but I'm plenty offended by the above. But nobody cares about that. Maybe calling him "Barry H." is my way of striking back at what I deem to be unfair...

Whatever the pyschology is behind my bad behavior, I'll take your request under advisement. Thank you for being decent about it.

It doesn't matter if the connection is there or not. It's not about a connection. It's about a scare tactic to connect Obama to a side of Islam of which he is not a part of. Many in the United States don't know anything about that religion other than those who attacked us belong to it.

That is how it comes across. Most of us are used to hearing him referred to as Barack Obama, Obama or sometimes Barack.

I think they care about their bottom line too, probably more so than any other aspect of the business. I believe they would not knowingly have made bad loans unless they were pushed to do so. Pressure from the government can be a very powerful thing.

Why else would they have taken the risk, knowing the possible outcome? Do you think they are all dumbies?
