Well, kids are getting ahold of these weapons and going to schools with them. The gun culture is out of control now, so regulations ca be used to at least tr and keep guns out of the hands of those who don't deserve them. Unfortunately, that is not always the case.

I just look at it this way...if we ban guns, everyone will be killing each other with knives and swords, if we ban knives and swords, then everyone will try to kill with sticks and stones. It will just snowball....it will be hard to ban sticks and stones..LOL. I'm not making any sense. I think I need to go to bed.
September 17, 200817 yr Member I don't know Roman. I think having them at home is fine, but people having them on the street? I don't think so. I think people should have to be licensed to have a gun too. As far as carrying them on the street, I first must say I don't know what worries me more, people walking around with guns or a society that feels it needs to walk around with guns. It's similar to chaos in my opinion. We don't trust the institutions of government to protect us so we just take the law in our own hands. I think the law of unintended consequences comes into play also. People don't have the judgement not to drive drunk. They can't even do simple things like cross the street at the cross walk or have patience with people on bicycles, yet we trust total strangers to make life and death decisions? It's like driving. I trust myself more than other people. Hell, people would be leaving their guns in the men's room.

It's something that all Americans need to get serious about......andoyr local, state and federal government need to realize this is serious.... Before our next vice president shoots someone in the face in a drunken stuper and blame the person they shot for it (Not that it would ever happen, mind you).

September 17, 200817 yr Member I am all for the right to have a gun. However, thee does need to be laws on that. We have them in place in fact, they just don't seem to be forced upon people selling the guns. Money does convenes a lot of people of things they know they shouldn't do. And yes, i do believe that guns don't kill people, people kill people. I mean, if someone sets out to run someone over, did the car kill them? No. I think the person driving the car did. I am sure if i had more than 2 hours of sleep i could go into detail more. But it doesn't really matter as most people in this thread don't care because they have decided who to vote for and know where they stand on the issues. I do think that there should be one set percentage of what we should pay in tax's. no someone making 10,000 a year shouldn't pay the same amount of cash as someone making 10,000,000 a year however they should pay the same percent. I am torn on abortion. Do i think it should be illegal? No. Do i think it should be legal to kill a unborn child? No. Stricter laws are without doubt needed. I could not support capital punishment more. Why are we keeping these child molesters and killers alive? I also support harder laws on crime. I have no idea how i feel about No Child left behind. I think we need to do offshore drilling. I think we depend way to much on outside sources for things we need. I think the most important thing right now is the environment and i think we need to find a way to make solar panels and cars that use less gas - or none - more affordable. I think our heath care system is messed up, and needs to be reworked. However i do not support free heath care to those who don't work. affordable heath care is a must. i also hate that our gov tax's me almost 30% of what i make and just gives money to people who are on welfare and who do not work. i do understand the need for things like short term unemployment and SSI however. Religion should stay out of Gov. and out of schools. what else is there?... umm... i think that any two people in love should be able to get married. I do not understand why its ok to be 18 and smoke cigs and vote and go to war and have jury duty, yet 21 to gamble and drink. i mean, if i can go fight a war for the usa why cant i drink a beer? and if i can smoke a cig why not some pot? oh, and immigration.... send them all back. I have no issue with people coming here, but do it the correct way! Again, i am leaning to McCain over Obama, but am waiting to decide. Esp until after the debates and they both make are much more clear and upfront with what they say and if they have a plan. However i am not sure why as i think both sides will say whats needed to be said to get in.
September 17, 200817 yr Member I wanted to let Mulder know that I will not be replying to his questions that he brings out of my posts. I have taken the time several times in the past (check back through) to contest every one of his arguments, but each time he returns he does the same thing. He ignores what he brought up before and posts something completely different. I happen to feel that Republicans hurting the middle class and the poor is nonsense! Bush did and McCain proposes to give all classes tax cuts. Mulder posts nothing of substance. I am not trying to start a fight or divert from the issues, but I wanted this out in the open so that we may get back to the issues. Hope that makes sense. Regardless, you are always demanding to be treated respectfully and you turn around do the exact opposite to another poster. That's a little hypocritcal, don't you think? Calling someone else's posts "nonsense" and "nothing of substance"? What if someone said the same thing about your posts? It's a classic (old) cliche for a reason. It's true! If people did not have guns to kill with, they would find other methods, simple as that! Murders occured in our history long long long before the invention of the gun. It's a cliche created by the NRA, swallowed whole by the RNC and sold to Americans as the truth. Do you mean to say that if the criminals that killed the students and teachers at Columbine didn't have guns, that they would have been able to kill as many people with a knife? I don't think so. Here you go...The Swiss & Guns - Proven Success! Thanks for that. I will check it out and let you know what I think about it. I haven't been a proponent of assault rifles, but I can sum up why some feel they are needed. Many believe in the need for emergency militia and defense. For example, another country invades, we experience a natural disaster, or somehow the government colapses and is no longer in power leaving people fend for themselves. Whatever other doomsday scenarios you can think of.. Although, highly unlikely that this need will ever arouse. It is possible. I dont see how anyone can tell another they cant own a particular gun in our free country. If they misuse it, throw them in jail! Can you tell me the last time a common thug murdered someone with an assault rifle in our country? Check this out! We already have these mandates and regulations set in place. You do have to wait seven days for a handgun. The do a background check and register your name in the database, attached with that particular weapon. Felons cannot own guns. Dog the Bounty Hunter is a case in point. He is a convicted felon, therefore he has to use mase to catch his bounties..LOL..Many of these regulations were put into effect with the Brady Bill. There is resistance to this requirement from Republicans. Their position - thanks to the NRA lining their pockets - is to have this overturned. I think bandbfan posted something to this effect as well. Do you agree with your party's stance on this matter? Do you support the Brady Bill? IA. It's something that all Americans need to get serious about......andoyr local, state and federal government need to realize this is serious.... Before our next vice president shoots someone in the face in a drunken stuper and blame the person they shot for it (Not that it would ever happen, mind you). You're awesome! One thing I forgot to add. The Republican Legislature in Florida this year passed a law that allows persons with concealed weapons permits to carry their guns to work in their car. Now is this really necessary? In my building, the security officers are unarmed. If someone were to get into an bad argument with someone that had a gun in their car, what is stopping them from getting that gun out and blowing the other person away? And how would this have happened if guns weren't allowed in the car in the first place? They certainly couldn't have done as much damage with "any other weapon". And for the life of me, I simply can not comprehend a gay man voting for a Republican especially if they believe in someone's right to marry whom they love. I simply don't understand it. They have said that about my posts. Sorry if this offended you, but I feel that Mulder saying we went to Iraq based on lies and Republicans hurt the middle class to be nonsense. You would be very appreciative if someone wearing a concealed weapon defended you against someone that has smuggled in a gun and went postal in your office building. I feel it is necessary. BTW it is difficult to obtain a concealed weapons permit. They have a lot of scrutiny to go through. And for the life of me, I simply can not comprehend a gay man voting for a Republican especially if they believe in someone's right to marry whom they love. I simply don't understand it. September 17, 200817 yr Member WOW. Let the games begin ..... They have said that about my posts. Sorry if this offended you, but I feel that Mulder saying we went to Iraq based on lies and Republicans hurt the middle class to be nonsense. That is not the reason that I called him out. I called him out, because he swoops in and posts very negative comments, and then returns later without answering my rebuttals. I'm just going to drop this one. I was just pointing out that you should treat others and you would like to be treated. I happen to agree with Mulder that the Iraq War was based on lies and deception. But that's a discussion for another time I guess. What did the hijackers use on 9/11? Box cutters. Box cutters killed 3,000 people on 9/11, should we ban them? Don't you think you're streching a little here? Box cutters got the hijackers control of the plane. They killed like 10 people with them. Everyone else was killed by the plane crashes. How can you say that box cutters killed everyone??? Yes I support the Brady Bill. Some may want to have some regulations overturned, but I have not heard this. The stance held by mainstream Republicans is to allow no further regulations on the right to own a gun. You know the majority of your party fought the Brady Bill tooth and nail, right? * The Brady Bill was implemented on February 28, 1994. This law established a national 5 business day waiting period on handgun purchases through licensed dealers. It also required local authorities to conduct background checks on handgun purchasers. The majority of Democrats voted for this bill and the majority of Republicans voted against it. Bill Clinton signed it into law. (18)(19) You would be very appreciative if someone wearing a concealed weapon defended you against someone that has smuggled in a gun and went postal in your office building. I feel it is necessary. BTW it is difficult to obtain a concealed weapons permit. They have a lot of scrutiny to go through. You see, I posted an example that supports my opinion and you post one supporting yours. The simple fact is that in my opinion guns should not be in my co-workers car. If I knew someone at work that was packing, I would treat that person very differently. I'd be afraid to call him out on any work he does for fear I'd end up with a bullet in my head. You know that people have done a lot less to get shot. And by the way, it doesn't seem that hard to get a concealed weapons permit in FL. Check this out. Some issues weigh more heavily for others. Although I disagree with the Republicans stance on gay marraige, not being gay, it doesn't have that great of an impact on my life...just being honest. This is kind of a self-centered view. Simply because there's a movement by Republican Legislatures against gay marriage today (in the Federal Government and all over the US), don't you think that another controversial subject may arise in the future that will affect your life more directly? And the right-wingers will take the same approach with that one as they are now doing with gay marriage. A friend of mine said the same thing - that she's not gay so it doesn't impact her as much. I disagree. If the Republicans are willing to discriminate against gay people today, whose to say it won't be another wedge issue tomorrow that they will take the same approach to that will affect you? Don't you think that it's kinda scary to have a political party in power that is so willing to do those things??
