Some states have several congressional districts..especially those that are highly populated. The amount of Reps sent to the House from your state is based solely on the population.

Some states just have too many Reps to cover in the media. The local media usually covers Congress from a Senatorial aspect because it's just easier to cover two from each state.

Most local newspapers (small-town papers) cover the Rep from their district..I know mine does.

You've heard my Rep in the news..Lynn Westmoreland..and the "uppity" comment.

Where are you getting this imformation? Republicans not voting for the bill because of Nancy?

We only have 4 :P

On CNN, they had a group of Republicans being interviewed right after the vote and they all indicated she was the reason the vote didn't work. Some guy from Virginia held up a copy of Pelosi's speech and said that that was the reason the vote didn't go through.

Uh...how about holding up a copy of the bill?

Also, does anybody know where to find who voted how for the bill today?

Did you get to hear what she said? I first heard the story while in the car. They didn't give the specifics on the news radio stations (I switched between two)....just that some Republicans blamed her. I saw the clip of the statement that the news anchor said caused the problem on CNN. I didn't see the need for her saying what she did regardless of whatever else may have been said by others. You have to know when to hold your tongue.....but I still don't see someone honestly using that as an excuse.

Reps may be hesitant because their constituents have expressed opposition but then they should say that and they should also explain whether those constituents are being made aware of the ramifications as well. I think that it's wrong to do nothing on the basis of constituents' displeasure when there is so much at stake. I just wonder if the Reps doing this are in the habit of always listening and going along with their constituents.

The little party revolt is in part due to the Republican brand. I heard that one Republican up for re-election was being sued by Democrats who want him to list himself as a Republican because he's listing himself as a (redundant) member of the GOP Party. Apparently some voters don't know that the GOP is the Republican party.

Yeah, they will still vote. (in the Senate)

The bill will have to be reintroduced in the House...probably with differing wordage...whatever the Reps are rejecting..

My question is why are Republicans being turned into scapegoats if the Dems have the majority? Why are they wussy-footing around the Repubs? If they feel this is a good bill, then just pass the darn thing!

IMO, They are afraid that McCain and the Republicans will have the upper hand for rejecting a bill that is not supported by most of the public...

    • It's convoluted but the CBS soaps that were still on the air in the 2000s are all in the same universe because of Sheila Carter appearing on Another World as an alias named Shelly Clark who hated some unnamed characters that matched Eric and to Stephanie's description. In the 60s Mike Bauer from Guiding Light crossed over to Another World which linked their universes. Cass also appeared on Guiding Light. Now if the Sheila Carter connection is counted as just parody and not a crossover there is still a connection due to Emily Stewart appearing on Y&R looking for Alison.
    • Pete T Rich article undated from Berkshire Style website According to wikipedia All My Children Script Writer: 1994 - 1996 Days of Our Lives Script Writer: 1993, October 4, 2011 – July 27, 2012 Guiding Light Script Writer: 1984 - 1993, 1997–1999 Passions Script Writer: 1999 - 2008 Santa Barbara Script Writer: 1993 Welcome to the Soaps by Joseph Montebello Before there were miniseries and weekly comedy hours, there were soap operas. Those wonderful half-hour segments that came on every day, five days a week and captured the hearts of women and men alike. And if you are as old as I am, you will remember soaps on the radio. Every day I would arrive home from school and find my mother absorbed in the trials and tribulations of Backstage Wife or Stella Dallas or Lorenzo Jones. I knew enough to go quietly to my room as my mother sat totally absorbed in the dialogue. Thanks to writers such as Pete Rich, television soap operas reigned supreme for many many years and some of the memorable characters he wrote for are still remembered fondly. Born in Atlanta, Rich moved to New York after college with the dream of becoming a comedy writer. “My friend Gail Lawrence and I were in this together,” he said, “and we had an interview with a man at ABC comedy development. He told us that one had to live in Los Angeles in order to write comedy for television. So off we went, only to discover that Bob Hope was looking for writers.” In the category of “too good to be true,” Rich and his friend did, indeed, get a job writing for Hope and, at 25 years old, they were the youngest writers he had ever employed. Unfortunately, a writers’ strike brought everything to a halt, so Rich and Lawrence moved back to New York. As luck would have it, the man from ABC who had encouraged them was now at NBC, and was looking for writers for a soap called The Doctors. “In the ’80s, when television soap operas were in their prime, they had a captive audience of housewives and college kids,” said Rich. “The shows got huge ratings and, compared to prime time shows, they were cheap to produce. The profits were staggering and it was rumored that daytime paid for prime time.” That was the beginning of Rich’s stellar career in the soaps which lasted almost 30 years. He will share his favorite memories of life on the soaps at the Women’s Forum, at the Litchfield Community Center Thursday, March 2nd, at 2:30 PM. In addition to The Doctors, he penned scripts for Guiding Light, listed in Guinness World Records as the longest-running drama in television in American history—it was broadcast on CBS for 57 years—All My Children; Days of Our Lives; Santa Barbara, and Passions, Rich’s favorite show. His talent was acknowledged with six Daytime Emmy Awards and two awards from the Writers Guild of America. With such a stellar career, Rich has written many classic scenes and memorable dialogue and being asked to mention just one is like asking a mother to choose her favorite child. “Soaps opera lovers may remember what is considered one of the classic moments of daytime television when Reva Shayne on Guiding Light took off her clothes in a public fountain and baptized herself “the Slut of Springfield” to her crippled boyfriend, Josh. The speech went on for about five minutes as Reva basically had a meltdown. Actress Kim Zimmer won an Emmy for her acting and the episode itself received an Emmy as well. In true soap fashion, after Reva was taken home, she woke up in bed to find Josh watching her from his wheelchair. They made love, she cured his paralysis and made it rain–so potent a woman was she.” In their prime, soap operas managed to combine reality with incredibly convoluted plots and character studies. Where else could one find tortured men and women who fell in love, suffered infidelities, murder, lust, mysteries, lies, and secrets? “I think the days of soaps are really behind us,” said Rich. “The Internet has allowed everyone access to everything at anytime. And life has become so fast-paced that few people have five afternoon hours a week to devote to a show. Plus, reality TV, You Tube, and social media all entertain people in a customized way. Today what’s on the news is more outrageous and shocking than any soap ever was.” But we all have memories of those days when soaps held us rapt for that magical hour every day. Rich retired from writing for television and now spends his time decorating houses, designing gardens and writing fiction for fun.
    • I found the ATWT reference to be cleverly done and I enjoyed it. I thought this was another great episode. I'm starting to love Jacob and Naomi as the grounded good guys. June has brought the best out of both of them and both of them have made Derek more bearable.
    • I'm glad she got to Jamey fast and the issue was corrected. I wasn't sure if somebody had hacked his account or not, but turns out it was just an error.  Based on the 6:03 time stamp of his tweet, I only had told her about it 18 minutes before-hand, so that was certainly a quick response by both!
    •   a correction was just issued

    • I did roll my eyes because I hate it when soaps refer to other soaps as soaps. I'd like to think that all soaps belong in the same universe. I hated when GL did it pertaining to Y&R during the Dolly clone story. I hated it today on BTG.  Plus, it was a stupid throwaway line that made no sense. OMG. The breakdown writer and script writer knew Tamara Tunie was Jessica on ATWT. What do they want for it? A cookie?
    • Eva just so happened to be at the casino the night of the accident? How convenient and this feels like something they just thought up when they should have established that she liked to gamble as a hobby at some point before last week   LOL at that ATWT reference. June had me going
    • Agee not Victor! Very good that you are clear and careful what you wish for!
