Would you consider John McCain to be a religious conservative? I believe there is a difference in conservatism and religious conservatism. Sarah Palin, I will admit would be considered a religious conservative.

What Republican said that Palin solidified the base of the party? I've heard that stated before, but only by commentators in the media.

Furthermore, the "base" of the party refers to the bottom layer of Republicans, or a select group of the diehards (the far right-leaning individuals). It does not not refer to the majority or who is in "control". The majority of Republicans are moderate, much like the majority of Americans.

The base of the Democratic Party would be much the same thing, it would be those that are far left-leaning diehards.

Okay I'm still reading and I'll never get ahead so I do want to say this about CR. I know it looks bad that she was enjoying herself during Katrina but technically she has nothing to do with FEMA or disaster relief efforts. Her positon is not domestic, it's foreign affairs. Does that mean she shouldn't show compassion? No, but she certainly wasn't shirking her cabinet position responsibilites. She just showed that she wasn't a go getter humanitarian.

In the end, we agree that racism and sexism sucks. And we appear to agree that some people in both political parties harbor racist notions. We still disagree, however, on our choice for candidates. But that's cool... People who aren't voting for the same candidates can actually enjoy each other's company... LOL... I have a sense that Roman, for example, doesn't really like me all that much (because of my radical moderate to right-leaning views, I dunno)... but not everyone will like me, I guess.

I'm actually used to it, though. Such has been life online... particularly life online running a website people either loved or hated.

I think I'm gonna stick up for Condi here. I mean, let's be honest... what exactly could she have done? As you point out, her job has nothing to do with anything domestic. Life didn't stop for most of us during that horrible disaster... I suppose her critics would have felt better had she confined herself to her home wringing her hands while watching the news coverage. It's just ridiculous how we sometimes judge these people... It's pure partisanship and nothing more.

No, I don't. If they did, John McCain would not have been the nominee. It would have been Mike Huckabee. Further, to suggest they have some huge influence over the party makes me wonder why the Bush agenda has been everything BUT a conservative one. Oh, yeah, the Bush Administration's stance on illegal immigration has the Religious Right all over it...

Being politically correct seems to have forced a lot of people into being less than their true selves in public so some people are probably shocked when they have conversations with their friends in private and learn some truths.

Since GGL said I could chime in....me chiming in. Yes anyone of any race can be a bigot.

A black person can be racist towards a white person. I think why someone may take issue with this is that a black person is generally not in a position to oppress a white person but if it's hatred then I don't think oppression matters. I may understand the reasoning that the black person may be reacting to oppression, etc. but that doesn't negate the hatred.

Racism goes in one direction and so there isn't such a thing as reverse racism....I think that's nonsense.

I do not think every person that race baits is a racist. Some people use it as a means to an end without considering the consequences.

Also if a person grows up with limited or no exposure to a person of another race then any ignorance that results from that should not be automatically labeled racist.

What did you do while Katrina ravaged New Orleans? I don't doubt you care about people... But did your world stop then? Did you neglect your personal affairs those days and weeks during and after the disaster?

To answer your question.......what i felt has nothing to do with anyone else but me.

However I carried on throughout my day is on me. Now, question How did YOU react to the victims of Katrina? Because sometimes it seems as though I and others must offer some type of explanation for our behavior, but youseem to not want to give that same transparency.

And to be very, very frank.......this "Dems do this, Repubs do that" is something I try my best not to get involed with. Once again, with 200 million people, roughly there bouts, registered to vote or who are of voting age, I do not and will not subscribe to know how people act or what people think.

Those that do that, IMO, must feel that they are perfect. The Father is the only perfect being I have ever heard of......and he left all of us in the dust centuries ago.

A story a friend at work told me... Family in the deep south passed away and he went back there to handle arrangments, etc. A completely different world there than here in California. Some people there still don't think anything of blatant racism or offensive language, etc. He couldn't believe it. But it really hit home when a relative visited and she used the "N" word in front of his kids... He had to take the family member aside and explain to them that we live in a very different world now and that wasn't acceptable... the kids were stunned as they live in an environment where that's just not said. He had to tell his family member that they don't talk that way here and not to use it in his home or around his family.

The family member was baffled by the reaction. LOL...
