I heard about her request yesterday and what benefts Alaska certainly doesn't benefit California and since I don't live in Alaska, then I'm all for his telling her uh no. Smog and other unhealthy air quality issues need to be addressed and since she'll probably be pushing for offshore drilling here to compound matters then she should understand that our governor answers to us and not her...so nice try.

I speculated earlier in response to this question that maybe at the time of the primaries that wasn't Gibson's focus since he may have felt he would have opportunities down the road. He may have thought that Obama would not make it out of the primaries. Who knows?

He still has time to ask Obama the same questions if he chooses and there's still a difference between asking during the primaries (and knowing that there is more time to do in depths with the candidates) and asking the new kid on the block who could be elected to the position of VP in a matter of weeks and could have her finger on the button, so to speak, in a matter of months.

I don't know what makes Charles Gibson tick or what would make him spend more time worrying about a flag pin at a debate than real issues.

Washington deals directly with foreign relations, not Juneau. I would not expect Palin to be inviting friends across the Bering Strait over for weenie roasts. However, it would be an appropriate expectation that the Governor of Alaska would need to be aware of certain security issues given the proximity of US territory to the lands of a foreign power, particularly one that has grown increasingly unfriendly to us the past few years. I would expect the Governor of Florida would be aware of specific issues relating to Cuba, for example. I'll imagine the governors of states bordering Mexico, like my state, are briefed routinely by officials in Washington on issues relating to security, especially given the violent drug wars possibly spilling onto US soil.

Frankly, I look at the roles of these governors to be more intimately involved in the dealings of sensitive foreign policy issues based on their proximity to possible hot spots -- and certainly as aware of such issues as those sitting on a committee in some stuffy Washington meeting room.

Just a thought.

Hi Tishy...

This national survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted by Rasmussen Reports on September 3, 2008. The margin of sampling error for each survey is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

Rasmussen Reports is an electronic publishing firm specializing in the collection, publication, and distribution of public opinion polling information.]

I linked to it... this information was at the end of the quoted story on the source page. Rasmussen is considered fairly reliable and nonpartisan. Then again, anyone could dispute that fact, too... :D Whenever I don't like their poll results, I always claim they are bias. When I like what I see... I'm impressed by their fairness. LOL!!

It's not unusual for governors or mayors to make goodwill or partnership trips to other countries. Even though I think he should be concerned about running the city, the mayor of Los Angeles has done it. He took a ctrip to Israel that focused on counterterrorism and green technology.

OK, call me McCain, since I'm not technologically gifted enough to offer the entire discussion, but this is what irritates me lately about you Casey.

First you ask for any other situations where the VP has more experience than the POTUS to be (with, I might add, the assumption this is rare and unlikely)

Then Jess posts several examples.

But then you are not pleased enough with those examples and you shift the argument. Well, now you want to talk about the "kind" of experience...

This is why you are occasionally hard to hold a discussion with, but I do find it to be something lately, as much much earlier in this thread, I was very pleased to see your side of things as a McCain supporter. I thought you came across much more civil. I don't know if certain posters have irritated you, or you've become more exasperated as the election season goes on, or even if you feel piled-up on here as one of the few McCain supporters.

You complain about wanting answers, but when they are given to you, you are not "happy" with the answers you receive; you find fault with them.

So I guess I'm "attacking" you here. Whatever.

I never said you COULDN'T respond the way you wanted. But if you're gonna take issue with facts I present or statements I make, then at least address directly those facts or statements. I look at any other type of a response as a dodge because you apparently can't refute what I've offered up. If you don't wish to debate the point, then maybe concede the point, but please don't argue with me just for the sake of arguing... It's depressing and creates a conflict I otherwise don't wish to have with you...

Thanks...

Hopefully this link works and you can see how fun Obama waffles are:

I'm editing this to try to add a picture of the front of the box in case someone can't see the article. This is the kind of thing that some people find offensive but I guess when it's being sold at a conservative political forum then it's all in good fun.

    • Above, I said "Vanessa needs to go to therapy to find ways to remain healthfully lusty and sex-positive, but to stay away from anyone who would demean her." Now adding onto that thought, I would clarify that sometimes I think Vanessa fools around for fun in a positive way.    But other times I sense that she's actually unconsciously trying to demean herself as way of numbing some inner pain -- it's hard to explain what I mean.  Sort of like... sometimes people drink for fun. But other times, people drink  in a self-destructive way, in order to drown out some inner pain. So I think she needs therapy about all of that.
    • A lot of these episodes are available on YT. The rape storyline starts around February or March of 1979 and Roger's demise is sometime in March 1980. The stuff from before 1979 is close to non exisitent, unfortunately.
    • Maeve Kinkead was on from 1980-1988 (left in January); 1989-2000 (went recurring 1996-97); 2002 -For Josh /Reva's Wedding; 2005 (appearances in May and December) back regularly from Feb 2006-end Maureen Garrett was on from 1976-80; 1988-2006 (recurring from 2003 on); 2009 Michael Zaslow was on/off from 1971-1980 with breaks in between but usually made an appearance every year then again 1989-1997. There is a youtube commercial  Guiding Light in 1968

    • Holly's final big story was the Sebastian mess in late 2004.   Vanessa and Matt were promoted to regulars near the end and were heavily recurring prior to that starting around 2007/2008.
    • Keith has a softer presence, but it would have helped to see him be more aggressive or proactive in protecting them instead of standing around like a mannequin. A man the audience should be hoping and wishing gets back together with his wife. Nicole needs a new husband!
    • She needs to learn to be honest with her husband about her lusty interests because being sex positive only works if you're not cheating on your spouse.

    • Very disappointed in the writers in the way they are screwing with Nicole, Ted,  and Kat to make Leslie remain viable. So many holes everywhere.
    • Somebody brought this up elsewhere which emphasizes why this NuTed appears as such a weakling. Why is Kat doing what HE should be doing? And that's everything he can to rid him and his family of this crazy woman. Kat is doing all kinds of things she shouldn't do but now I understand her more. She can't count on her father to eliminate this woman because he's a wimp. He's been too busy inviting her into his home and serving her drinks and offering her invitations to birthday parties. WIMP!!!!
