O'Reilly got the interview instead of Brit Hume because the interview is only a ratings gimmick for Fox. O'Reilly ended up with his second highest show ratings for the first segment. It probably plays better for Fox viewers overall to have him shouting, ranting, and raving at Obama. That was probably easily juxtaposed against the extremely soft interview with Keith Olberman.

Charlie Gibson's three segment interview with Palin is also going to be warm and fuzzy. The Democrats can be thankful once again that ABC didn't get a debate.

But why would a candidate do that? It gives credence to the commentators. They are only "legitimate" to the American people because the candidates pander to them. McCain and Obama should grant interviews to the legitimate press and let the commentators claw their critiques from reviewing sound bytes created by the folks that went to journalism school and believe in the importance of impartiality in news reporting. I would get a heck of a lot more information from Brit Hume asking Barack Obama his military plan going forward in Iraq and how he plans to execute that plan than I would from Freakshow Bill screaming at Obama to admit he was wrong about the troop surge. Am I wrong?

Honestly, I miss the days when we didn't know the political affliliations of any news anchor. I miss the days when shows were clearly distinguished as a newscast and political opinion was clearly political opinion. That line has been blurred too much and contributes to the "us" and "them" mentality that is destroying American politics. The irony of the whole thing is that there are similarities with candidates and their positions but people see "republican" or "democrat" first and automatically from that point the average voter picks a side and everything the other side says is wrong EVEN IF IT IS THE EXACT SAME THING. Nobody listens to anybody and it's all based on a party label.

I know I sound a little kumbaya here but I think it's valid. It's time for us to stop demonizing the "other" side. Commentators are fabulous at doing just that and the American people accept it as news. It hurts my heart to see it.

Here is an issue where both candidates see eye to eye. This is Barack Obama's latest on education reform. I will see if I can find McCain's online as well. It's pretty much the same thing.

The real test will be if either one of them actually pursues it after being elected. The teacher's union is a very strong lobbyist in Washington.

    • yes. today Monday's episode started with words displayed "part 1" and ended with "to be continued"
    • I find Missy Reeve's views offensive and I don't want to defend her, but I don't think she ever said anything publicly about Days "gay content".   In fact, I don't think she's ever said anything negative about Days at all.  There's no indication Missy is difficult or unprofessional on set-except for the whole affair thing years ago lol-but that's a whole different topic. I can dislike Missy as a person and still think she's the perfect fit for Jen.  Cady tried and it didn't work for me.  Whenever Missy steps into the role it works.  It's a two things can be true situation.  Missy has some bad opinions, but she's great at playing Jennifer.
    • Doesn't the funeral go into Tuesday
    • Christian Streaty wrote her second freelance script today on Days. Surprised they gave the first funeral episode to a newbie.
    • And the third thing, which I have no cite for, and I may look to see if one is findable, but supposedly she said that the show had too much gay content in it. And, to be fair, that could be someone making a criticism about balance & not be bigotry but when it's added to the other, that's why it bugs people. Edit to add: The reason this may be impossible to source, and therefore of no use, is because it was not a public statement. She is supposed to have said it at the show, about the show, to colleague/s, one of whom repeated it in public, but that is convoluted to try to track down, so feel free to ignore. I did do some looking & I am not optimistic.

The greatest tv series season finale in history.
    • Mick Savage was sooo unbearable. And more unbearable was the reaction from the female characters to him - they were acting like he is God's gift to women and sooo irresistible. To a point of unbelievable cringe.
    • Today was a short one. Only 33 minutes.  The ‘Part One’ graphic at the beginning was pretty interesting though. I didn’t expect them to do something like that.  I like how everything was focused around John and his family and friends. Again, the acting and the dialogue was very well done and well written. And I love that they were able to incorporate Drake’s, “swing for the fences” phrase into the script. It was nice seeing everyone interact with each other, especially characters who don’t often share scenes together. It felt like every character was part of a big family or community. Plus, an outdoor funeral in June makes a lot more sense than an outdoor funeral in December.  But yeah, it’s very, very strange that Will isn’t at the funeral, especially since we know that

I would much rather he had been there today. And, where’s Anna too? And Jack and Jennifer? What was the point of bringing them all back if they weren’t going to attend the funeral? I expected Steve to want to close down BlackPatch, though I’d rather he just retire and let Paul take it over. But I like that Kayla was there to comfort him. I wonder if he’s going to change his mind at some point.  It was nice seeing Shane again too. Now, he just needs to have more scenes with his son lol but I enjoyed seeing him comfort Marlena. I’m not really sure about his interaction with Cat though? Was it really necessary for this to happen now, at John’s funeral? They could’ve waited a little longer to introduce this story arc.  Btw, was Tate bleeding from his head in his first scene with Arianna?
    • This is the coldest early June in my life. It's like it's January.
