Members SOAPSFOREVER
I would love this, too. "Edge of Night" was one of the most consistently well-written soaps ever to air, especially during the Henry Slesar days. He was a true genius at writing fabulously intricate mysteries, something we don't see from the present-day soaps. Again, talents like Slesar, Lemay, Bell (Bill), Labine, Curlee, Nixon and Marlard just aren't around any longer, or the daytime soaps aren't attracting them. It's probably due to all the micro-managing by the networks and sponsors.

Members JackPeyton
QUOTE (Chris B @ Jun 9 2008, 01:34 PM) I guess it's good that OLTL has a black writer on staff, but what is going on with the cast? Carlivati has his flaws and the most major one is how white the canvas is. I can understand maybe they're having problems with Renee Goldsberry (due to how ABC treated her), but Evangeline wasn't the first and only black character on OLTL! I remember when Victoria Rowell was in talks she'd be perfect tied to Ellen Holly's character and they could create a whole new (and old) black power family. Then you have Rachel who is connected to Nora and is still young. Gary Tomlin showed Layla some love during the strike and she shined. Where are her scenes with Dorian or Brody now? Why is RJ still an extra? Not one of the characters he's brought on could've been played by a black actor? That is my #1 question for Ron if he ever did say a radio interview or something. Where is the bloody diversity? Where are the socially relevant stories? Once I see this stuff I will consider thinking of him as a *potential* soap great in the same vein as Bill Bell, Marland, etc. Unfortunately, most people don't call him on any faults, so he won't fix the diversity problem unless HE decides he wants to. I agree. I also dont buy the arguemnet of give him time. he has brought on coutless newbies, and almost any of them could had been black. More than they they have a few the do not use. Why is leyla nothing more than a prop? She is, IMHO, a far more intersting char than half the younger girls and the actress is amazing from what we have seen. As you pointed out we seen more of under GT and it was awesome. Same for RJ, where is he? I do love One Life right now and i do think its the ebst soap int he air, however RC is far from one of the greats, some evn refer to him as a god! he has his flaws and the reason people end up turning on it and abshing him and one life is alot of fans refuse to bring up anything wrong or bad at all. and if thats how they honestly feel then i have no problem with it, but i dont think it is. He is by no emans a bad writer, however he has flaws, and as you said this is one of them and it *needs* to be adressed. However this is an all soaps issue not just a one life issue. .............. so true!

Administrator Toups Posted June 10, 2008 Author Administrator Share Posted June 10, 2008 How will this affect ABC Daytime, Rain? She's very hands on, isn't she? Is this good or bad?
Members Sylph
Toups!! How can it be a bad thing when the woman loves McTrash? It's good news that she is gone. Only... I'm afraid Frons is going to replace her with yet another "brilliant" consultant to complete his fleet...
Members Y&RWorldTurner
Nothing's going to change as long as Frons is still there anyway....

Members Dr. Jay S.W.
Right....of talent development for AMC and OLTL. Donna is VP of Daytime television.
Administrator Toups Posted June 10, 2008 Author Administrator Share Posted June 10, 2008 I can't find her bio. I'm pretty sure Rain said she was Frons' right hand person, not VP of Daytime.
Members Dr. Jay S.W.
The last position I remember her in is VP of Daytime during Wendy Riche's tenure at GH. There was a big fan commotion going on during that time.
