Members dm.
Here is a look at January 1997, two months before THE CITY was canceled. Obviously, we had too much of Carla Soleito (who isn't even an original character) and there needed to be more Catherine Hickland and Roscoe Born. Well, at least we had enough Tracy. It was nice, at least for a few hours, to remember THE CITY.
Members EricMontreal22
I managed to tape every episode from mid jan to the end in March (I've made a few copies for people on here I know) and actually every 2 year sor so I rewatch them (usually when I'm stuck at home sick)--the soap REALLY found its balance and pacing by this point and, with AMC and OLTL (especially) starting to lose some quality it was my fave of the three soaps I watched by far I actually loved Amy as Carla--how wasn't she an original character? she came within 6 months I guess--but there was a bunch of characters early on that neede dweeding out (Jared, Molly, the milquetoast, sadly, transexual story etc)
Members sheilaforever
16 episodes a month with Jane Elliott - does she even get 16 episode every quarter these days on GH?
Members bellcurve
Jane Elliott was PURE HEAVEN on this soap! And no Sheila...Tracy Q. is lucky to be seen on holidays.
Members EricMontreal22
I had NO knowledge of who Tracy QUartermaine was and I was mad we were losing Morgan Fairchild after 6 months... But the show really hit its stride with Tracy and Jane was a big part of that--I quickly cared less about Sydney/Morgan. If she had immediately gone on to GH from there I probably woulda switched over to GH--but of course she didn't and by the time she came back to GH I didn't even know (The City wasted a few good chances--why didn't Angie at least go back to AMC? I know Debbi was on Port CHarles for a bit when it started but AMC coulda used the character--that was right around when their ethnic population was quickly dwindling)
Members dm.
Oh yes, I was angry when Morgan left the show. She was simply amazing. And THE CITY was a good show, but ratings didn't take.
Members EricMontreal22
She was amazing but like I said the actual show really found its groove and footing and came alive after she left--and Jane Eliot filled her shoes ably. So aws worried as I was for her leaving... (the ratings actually got better after she left--and when it was canceled it was the only ABC soap whose ratings weren't falling but were--albeit very slowly, climbing...) I really miss it EVen little de4tials liek characters like Joni Alison (sp?'s) Zoe--whow as Tracey's babysitter, etc--stuff you don't see in soaps nowadays
Members dm.
The finale was amazing. The cliffhanger with Molly and Sydney. Simply amazing. I was shocked and it was suddenly all over. A good soap to remember.
Members EricMontreal22
Yeah that was the best part of the Molly serial murders. Don't get me wrong, they were a fun mystery with some actually scary moments but doing it less than 6 months after the better Corinth murde rmystery was just such a hugely boneheaded move... No wonder B/Esenstein were so noted for serial killers at first... I wonder if Jack from AMC ever found out Sydney was killed--he was seen escorting her to London when she left City afterall. Love the finale's end montage all done to the end of the Abbey Road medley by the Beatles
Members cityfan01
Trust me, there was never enough Carla Soleito. She was one of those characters that you couldn't help but love while she was trying to steal her adoptive cousin away from the token good girl, Ally. Amy Van Hourne really should have been back into soaps by now. I do know that she was up for the part of Eve Lambert on Port Charles before it premiered, but we all know that Julie Pinson got that part. In all honesty, I really feel that Amy Van Hourne is the only person that I would sufficiently accept as a GH Brenda recast.
