It took all summer but today, finally, I felt the passion of Colleen and Santo. I enjoyed those scenes today, but the scene stealer is that little boy playing Shawn Sr. He's very good; I almost cried when he was begging his big sister not to meet Santo.

Loved Doug calling the women "strumpets".

Not a Santo/Colleen fan so of course I didn't like this episode.

I can't believe they brought back Doug and Julie so they can just read the letters. They could've saved some money right there.

And it's so sad seeing John/Marlena as props now.

OK, this is the girly-girl showing up. I have no deep thoughts. My mind melted into a puddle watching Colleen and Santo today. I know this isn't a favorite story of people who frequent this thread. But good lord, it got this girl a bit hot and bothered, more so than ANY of the recent supposedly love scenes on the show as of late. I barely remember anything else on the show. I won't go into a rehash of what happened onscreen except to say regardless of the Santo's crazy mustache and Colleen's wild hair, watching those two do their little soap opera-y dance of will they, will they not, was freakin' sexy. James brought IT today.

OK enough of that from me.

I agree it's a shame Doug and Julie are simply there as letter readers, but for some reason I just get so happy when I see them on screen. I think it's because I saw their love story from the beginning and still have so many vivid memories of them; they were my first and still my favorite supercouple. A lot of fans argue the merits of the 80s DAYS versus the 90s version--well, I loved the 70s! When I was in school and couldn't watch, the first thing I'd say to my mom when I came home was "What happened today on Days of our Lives?"

It IS sad seeing John and Marlena reduced to props. They deserve better.

I'll cut Doug and his "fair lady" some slack. It's just fun to see them on screen once again and, although we saw Frances Reid on screen earlier this summer, I have a feeling we may not be seeing more of her. The show needs as many links to the past as it can get, albeit on recurring status.

They're barely even props now. It's insane to see John & Marlena, Bo and Hope, and Doug and Julie - six of Daytime's ICONIC characters and three of Daytime's iconic couples, propping the story of two faux-history insignifcants (aka Borat and the Lusty Nun) and doing nothing but sitting at the pub reading a letter between the six of them. THEY should be the story, not reading it. I don't even like Doug and Julie much, but I want them on because I have a connection to the characters and the actors (and I love Bill and Susan - they rock), and they're familiar in a time when a kid named Pocket and Ciara, someone named Jenna, China Lee and Rollings or whatever have more spoiler mentions than John/Marlena and Bo/Hope.

DAYS is committing suicide.

You're absolutely right. Using iconic characters to prop up "faux-history insignifcants" was such a stupid move by TPTB.

I'm pretty sure Ed Scott isn't going to tolerate this kind of crappy story telling from Hogan/Meg.

From my understanding, Scott is very hands-off when it comes to the writing process, or at least he was at Y&R. Kay Alden always said problems in the writing were always discussed between her, Jack F. Smith, and their writing staff. She said she'd hardly get input from the producers, outside of monthly meetings she had in LA, to discuss the overall direction of the show.

The most Scott can do with the writing is edit scripts and change dialogue, which from what I hear, he is indeed doing over at Days.

I don't know Scott's track record, but I hope he doesn't. I KNOW Hogan can do much better than what he's been giving us lately. If you ask me, Meg Kelley needs to go, and Hogan should get a new Co-HW, someone more familiar with the history of DAYS.
