As the World Turns (CH/CBS) — History in the making

It’s the kiss fans have been waiting for. For the first time in daytime history, two male characters will romantically kiss when Noah plants a wet one on Luke. But don’t expect Noah to come out of the closet just yet. Meanwhile, fans are angry that ATWT is not playing the Luke/Noah romance more than just a couple of days a week. Memo to ATWT: you have hit storyline on your hands, play it out now.

The Bold and the Beautiful (CTV/CBS) — Brooke raped!

Pay attention Emmy voters: this week, Brooke is raped by Andy, whom Stephanie encouraged/manipulated to pursue! Bridget is the first one on the scene to help her traumatized mother, who refuses to go to the hospital to seek help. B&B insiders tell us that this storyline will change the course of the soap forever. We’re intrigued, we admit.

MASTER CLASS: THE BEST OF THE BEST

Jennifer Gareis, The Bold and the Beautiful

Brava Jennifer Gareis! Girlfriend can act — who knew? Headwriter Bradley Bell hit story pay dirt by having revenge-thirsty Donna Logan concoct a plan to seduce and marry Thorne to get back at Stephanie for making her sis, Brooke’s, life miserable. It’s totally in character — and it’s reassuring to know that someone loves Brooke enough to defend her honour.

We’re viewing this storyline as a love story between two sisters, who are finally beginning to stand up for themselves. This brilliant plot twist (seriously — Bell could have just as easily had Thorne and Donna predictably fall in love in another ho-hum romance) has not only rejuvenated the canvas, but it’s also touching on several key psychological issues in the Forrester and Logan clans.

The best part of this story is Gareis, who is hitting all the right notes as she deviously and hilariously appoints herself as Karma personified. Gareis is more than holding her own opposite Susan Flannery (Stephanie); in fact, she’s managed to steal a few scenes from the four-time Emmy winner! Gareis has also never looked better and appears to be having the time of her life.

We’d love to see Donna’s friendship with Jackie develop more, since we adore their scenes together. The best part of this storyline is that the possibilities are endless. It’s refreshing to see Stephanie battle someone other than Nick or Brooke — and we admit, she may have met her match in that “slut” Donna!

We’re thrilled that Gareis is finally getting a well-deserved close-up, along with Winsor Harmon, who is always impressive as Thorne – when he actually gets screen time. Moreover, it’s nice to see B&B flesh out another character other than the usual suspects. Here’s hoping Gareis is here to stay.

RANT OF THE WEEK: Recast Natalie puh-lease, OLTL

Raise your hand if you can no longer stand Melissa Archer as Natalie. She’s possibly the worst actor on the soap, so we’re amazed that soap hasn’t recast the role with a big-name actress. Remember this is Viki and Clint’s daughter, and that annoying twit should be played by someone as talented as her on-screen parents, Erika Slezak and Jerry ver Dorn.

I LOVED Melissa Archer when she first came to the show. She has steadily declined for me since then. Something's not clicking with the character anymore; it could be the story but she's been lackluster for years.

Seeing Archer just makes me realize what a useless character Natalie is and why the character should've never been created in the first place. I hated how they rewrote history, just to integrate this character.

Natalie will never be a Buchanan to me and I refuse to think of Jessica as Viki's child via rape from Mitch Lawrence. For years we were led to believe that Jessica was Viki and Clint's only biological child and that's that way I intend to keep it in my mind.

Me too. I loved Natalie when before the reveal... she had that appeal that I loved. But it was spoiled with the rewritten history, to make her a Buchanan, which was really unneeded at the time.
