I miss that era of ABC so much. Next to NBC, they had some of the most innovative shows on network TV at that time.

I rewatched the whole China Beach series not long ago and Reflections has stayed in my mind:

That was when ABC got Aaron Spelling off their network and he took his talents to Fox.

Yep, lol!

Ironically, I miss that era of FOX, too, when they were more concerned with being "different" than with legitimacy. So many of their shows at that time were SOOOOO off-beat, yet very entertaining, lol.

Yes. FOX lost its soul by the mid/late '90s. I will always miss the network of Married With Children, Get a Life, In Living Color, Herman's Head.

Another show I liked was a sketch comedy show called " The Edge" which Jennifer Aniston was a cast member. Boy did they rip a lot on celebrities and TV series. It was a big hit with viewers, but it was cancelled after 1 season because FOX claimed it was too expensive to produce. Supposedly the real reason for the cancellation was because the show ripped on Tori Spelling and 90210. Aaron was not amused and used his authority to get the show pulled.

I'm telling ya - aside from "Murder, She Wrote" on CBS, FOX was my Sunday night destination.

I think the same thing happened to The WB's "Grosse Pointe," a blatant parody of 90210 and its' backstage shenanigans, created by none other than Darren Star, lol. IIRC, when The WB cancelled it, they blamed their decision on the fact that it lost its' lead-in audience. Rumors suggested, however, that Aaron Spelling himself killed the show because he felt it painted a picture of his daughter as the ultimate nepo baby, who wouldn't have had the career she had if not for her dad's influence. (Me, to Mr. Spelling: "Where's the lie?")

🤣 Spelling protected his little girl through her life, but look how she turned out to be. He later turned on her financially when she cheated on her first husband with Dean. Candy has cut her off financially for years only throwing crumbs to her here and there. I feel sorry for those kids of Tori & Deans.

I watched that a few years ago. A strong cast (Alan Ruck even did uncredited guest spots). Some strong moments. What I remember most is probably Wayne "Newman" Knight as the head of a family whose response to everything was to open fire. I am not too surprised if it was canned due to shots at Tori. (I guess that may also be why Melanie Hutsell had no career - well, one reason)

That was a great sketch with Wayne Knight as head of the gun nut family. I also remember the sketch with them ripping on Wilson Phillips and the parody Carnie saying when they were up on the mountain filming the video she almost ate their song. The Designing Women sketch ripped on how the show sucked after Delta and Jean left and Delta as giant coming back eating the cast. Jennifer Aniston played Julia Duffy in that one.

The Edge (1992) 90210 parody appears at the 10:45 mark and again at 21:05.

Fox has forgotten that they built their network off the backs of the African-American audience. Fox always claims that their first big hits were Married with Children, The Simpsons, 90210, Melrose, and X Files, but they seem to forget about In Living Color, Martin, Living Single, and New York Undercover.

The shift with Fox was 1993, 1994 with peak 90210, Melrose taking off, X Files premiering, and getting NFL broadcasting rights.
