GH: Kate Howard

I cannot stand Kate Howard. She is so one-note. She's alway complaining. I wish GH would wring their hands of the character and let her die in a shootout.

Praise the lord! I thought this would be a lovefest post. Sorry, I can't stand the character and how fake she is and I don't see anything special with the actress. Currently she appears too wooden.

I don't see the point of the character. She's a fashion editor for a leading magazine, so what the hell is she doing in Port Charles during the day? On top of that, why is she even in Sonny's face practially 24/7? Why is she at his place of business? And when he does something wrong she runs away like he wronged her! I hate Sonny, but even I find myself feeling sorry for him and liking him with Amelia, who has a lot more spark/fire in her than Kate.

I really love Kate, I love her character, her connection to Sonny, she makes Sonny a watchable character, and it seems like they're having fun, both Megan and Maurice. I really hope they put these two together, a lot of fun there. And Kate is a great character, too.

Errol, Glad I'm in good company regards Connie/Kate. I agree that Megan's acting is wooden, and one note. Amelia is by far the best love interest for Sonny, agreed.

I FLVVOE Kate! She makes Sonny bearable. I love that he has that flirtatious charm back. He had it with Brenda and lost it with every single person except Sarah Brown's Carly. My dream right now would be to have Vanessa Marcil return and have a Brenda/Sonny/Kate triangle because it would be so much fun to want to choose. (My heart would still be with Sonnya nd Brenda though)

Megan Ward was perfect casting. In fact, GH Casting has been awesome as of late, from Ephihany to Diane to Logan.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread

What I liked about Bloss is that I liked how they grew to be the stable couple- the closest to an Ed and Mo in their prime. Especially after the Tori story when their extra-marital exploits were in the past. I wanted them to SORAS the three kids, along with Dinah and with Phillip's family as Ross's extended family would really be solid core family material.
With that said, I was rooting against Bloss in 1999 as I really liked the Ross/India pairing-- but that just turned out to be a waste of MKA.

They did actually resolve who shot Austin over a year later (it was Cyrus, as part of his hasty exit story). That was a last minute save though clearly when they forgot lol.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's

The return of sitcoms' popularity in the mid-'80s was a real thing, but the crash of the wealth-based nighttime soap genre was resonate and self-induced.

There was an effectively grim finality to the mood of the cliffhangers in the Spring of 1985: Bobby's death, the Moldavian massacre, the return of Val's babies... and they felt as if they could have ended right there (and perhaps they should have, although I would have sorely missed S10 of Dallas, S6 of FC, and Season 9 of Dynasty , and the next five years of KNOTS as they singularly maintained quality).

But, wow, these shows just fell apart post-Spring 1985. They stopped being character dramas after a while, and just started trying to "impress" viewers in some superficial way and to "fake it" somehow.

What a painful, unnecessary slide it was. But once these shows seemed to lose their identities, their sense of self, their momentum into the dung heap couldn't be slowed.

It is very strange. They have insisted on having 30+ contract players for years now. If they had less cast, they could up everyone's episode guarantees, balance the cast out more. Like 20-25 would be perfect. Have everyone else recur.
If you look back at the history of the show, especially in the 1970s and in the 2010s, whenever the show was at it's most successful, it had smaller casts. Audience relate to the characters more, because they see more of them. In 2009 and 2013, the show had arguable it's most successful periods since the early 2000s (ratings wise that is). They had smaller casts and focused on 3 or 4 stories the whole year. That's what they should be doing at this point. Have a few umbrella stories, that last the whole year, and involve the whole cast. But again, before that, fix who we see on screen cause.....😬
