FX Turns More 'Dirt,' Reaps 'Riches'

New series will return in '08; 'Rescue Me' moving

May 8, 2007

FX has decided that once was not enough for its new series "Dirt" and "The Riches."

The cable network has picked up both shows for a second season after they delivered ratings in line with some of FX's veteran shows. Both are scheduled to return sometime next year.

Additionally, FX has decided to move the new season of "Rescue Me" from Tuesday to Wednesday nights starting in June and set a July premiere date for its legal drama "Damages," starring Glenn Close.

"We're very proud to have managed, in the toughest possible competitive environment, to launch 'Dirt' and 'The Riches' -- two highly original series that have resonated with our audience as strongly as 'The Shield' and 'Rescue Me,'" FX president John Landgraf says. "FX now has six original dramas, more than any network in the history of cable television, cementing the network's status as a leader in quality original series."

Both "Dirt," which drew a cumulative 5.2 million viewers per week (over multiple airings) earlier this season, and "The Riches," which is averaging 5.9 million cumulative viewers, have posted ratings numbers similar to recent seasons of "Rescue Me" and "The Shield." Both shows also draw about two-thirds of their audience from the adults 18-49 demographic.

In addition to picking up the two new shows, FX has set its schedule for the rest of 2007-08. "Rescue Me" will premiere Wednesday, June 13, a day later than previously announced, and remain on Wednesdays throughout the summer. "Damages," which stars Close as a powerful attorney and also features Rose Byrne, Tate Donovan and Ted Danson, will follow on Tuesday, July 24.

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" will kick off its third season in September, with "Nip/Tuck" and "30 Days" scheduled for later in the year. New seasons of "The Shield," "Dirt" and "The Riches" will roll out in the first half of 2008.

    • To me, Judith McConnell (Sophia, SB) was more poised for Beth than anyone else. Yes, she was, as Sister Beatrice.
    • Is that even still possible? I thought that too at first but with Jan saying that she's never lied to Ashley about who her father is... Does Ashley even know who her dad is?
    • Unfortunately I only had one or two pages from those months. I believe I posted them but it would only cover one or two shows.
    • I think she would have been fine, although Beth was a thankless part. She probably was seen as aging out of the genre after AW.  I forgot she was on Sunset Beach.
    • Nicole's lucky Im no a soap villian bc if I was Wig, Id replace the liquid in her Febreze bottle with an odorless poison so that everytime she sprayed that thing, she'd be slowly killing herself

    • OK, I like the Cat interactions with Xander and EJ. And, I get that there are new writers. But, Clyde was shot 12/11/2024.  So, why have we not heard Xander or EJ's response to the situation for five months!  Clyde shot EJ (or he ordered him shot), shouldn't he react more to the news of his coma.  And, I've never heard EJ or Kristin mention that the woman who lived with them last summer was a fraud. Rather than giving lip service to the idea of family and community, at least it feels like everyone no longer lives in a bubble. Also, while it makes sense to use the hospital as the prize in the war between EJ and Xander.  We all have to admit that under the prior writer, at least Xander, and I think EJ, were dissuaded from buying the hospital went it started to go under in March.  I get the magic sepsis cure makes the hospital more valuable.  But, it seems like the people who are going to get rich are going to be the pharmaceutical companies.  Unless, Kayla and Sarah are going to start manufacturing prescription drugs out of the coffee machine in the lobby.  -- crud, I broke my promise to stop complaining about illogical this story can be.
    • I don't know if I could have seen that from her, honestly. But I feel like, outside of GH and her original DAYS stint, American daytime really didn't pay much attention to her, even though they should have.
    • Co-sign, 100% on this one. Xander was entirely in the wrong.
    • I'm seeing some interesting takes on this thread regarding Dani's behavior/personality, including right now. Here's my take on her: I think that Dani relishes in lighting people up. I think that's for multiple reasons.  I feel like Dani has probably largely been like this throughout her life. And that she gets joy in dragging people whenever she feels like it's necessary. I believe she feels like this is her being herself. I think one big reason why she's particularly giddy right now is because she's able to go back to acting this way, minus the hurt she's been dealing with due to Bill's affair. She got in Bill and Hayley's faces after their affair/wedding, but she was miserable doing it due to dealing with the hurt of that situation. Nicole's situation with Ted/Eva/Leslie allows her to act this way minus her suffering like she did at the hands of Bill. I believe she does empathize/care for her sister but is also interestingly enough rejuvenated by this situation. This situation is energizing her and making her act more like old self again, minus being hurt by her own's husband's infidelity. I think Nicole's situation is also a distraction for her from dealing with her own failed marriage to Bill.
