DAYS: Actors with Contracts Set to Expire in 2007

Please! Since when? A rabid fanbase like SHELLE and the psycho posters that post on their websties, can do wonders.

They can do wonders with a 1.9 ratings also... Fanbases can complain but it doesn't mean people are going to watch the show. Shelle have been heavy since January and ratings have tanked. Shows develop characters and make them interesting ALL THE TIME and DAYS failed to do so that is why they are in a predicament today. Hogan has failed from January-May, which is about what 4+ months to develop any character besides maybe Nick and Chelsea and that is why the show suffered and that is why fans bitched. No one is going to wait around for things that MAY happen, and with DAYS things that MAY happen usually DON'T.

And since Corday is infamous for dipping his hand in the cookie jar who is to say he won't again with this upcoming big storyline?? If it fails to garner attention right away (and since it is not Hogan's fault.. of course), and he meddles again, where will be in 2+ months? Right where we were last time???

Something else I want to mention...I don't think people realize they are basically asking for people like JER, Langan, etc back.

See that is silly... and it is an assumption. What you are saying is that "if you don't accept this half assed writing then we will be tortured with the likes of those BAD writers back". The difference is that you are a fan who will take what the show is delivering irregardless and there other fans who want a good show overall and will not take it unless it is good. Obviously, the latter fans are more abundant since the ratings are tanking. IMO.

Go watch Y&R. It takes that show, sometimes, a whole year to develop a character. Not so much anymore. But that's why they were so successful in the past year. They're realistic. No real person devleops in a freaking month. It takes time. All of this, searching the entire world for Claire, having his daughter ripped from his hands, seeing the depth Shawn and Belle will go to keep their daughter, I think it's going to pay off in the end.

Something else I want to mention...I don't think people realize they are basically asking for people like JER, Langan, etc back. That is the style some are asking for when they say "Hogan should know where he is going with a character" or "we don't have time to waste on character development" and the like. There is time. The characters were butchered. The show was butchered when Hogan came on. It takes one man more then 8-9 months to erase over a decade of crap. A character like Philip should be slowly transformed and he is going through a transition period that has been hindered by interference and story changing gears. It's unfair to say it should've happened by now based on that scroe. You don't want to rush something like that either or you will destroy a character completely.

"Character development" is no excuse for a boring show. Excitement and depth are both essential elements to good drama and any writer worth his salt should be capable of both. Shelle on the island has been tedious and repetitive, just like Sami/Celeste/EJ and Steve in the mental hospital. In any case, minimal plot movement and endlessly repeating the same conversations is not the mark of character-driven writing. It's just plain BORING.

Okay, Josh, and there's nothing we can do about it. Enjoy it or don't.

And that is hard to believe why? That is Frons moto over at ABC. We have been asking for all the things Days fans want for their show for the past four years and ABC has giving us Nada.

KA/Hope and PR/Bo - no way are they going anywhere.

MM/Belle - As much as I want that character gone, it's not gonna happen. Corday has had a hard-on for that useless twit since the beginning no matter who plays her. I think MM is a competent actress, and she could rock as an all-out bitch, but she sucks as a "good girl," and she doesn't have what it takes to be a romantic lead. They'll never make Belle evil, though, so it would be best if she was recast.

PM /Caroline and FP/Grandpa Shawn should both be dropped to recurring status. They do need to be used more to get that sense of family - why weren't they there when Kayla was in the hospital? Why aren't they there now that Sami is there? I'd be ok with killing off Shawn, but they'd have to have a big story around it.

JP/Billie - She should stay, every show needs a wild card, but the writers need to figure out what to do with her.

SR/Maggie - recurring. The show needs a matriarchal figure now that FR/Alice won't be returning.

The ratings are tanking, IMO, because the show has an EP who always thinks he knows what the fans want, lies through his teeth every chance he gets, sticks his nose in where it doesn't belong, but then, when the ratings climb, he takes credit for everything.

Two, they tried to push the younger stars down our throats. It didn't work at all. And how is it tha when Hogan wrote for the vets earlier this year, the ratings climbed and Days was at No. 3? Now, all of a sudden, he purposefully cut his own throat, backburned all the vets (like JER didn't do that as well during that SSK story) and now he is being forced to write for them because Ken Corday, the man who never met a lie that wasn't his friend, all of a sudden knows what's best for a show he's tried to ruin and is making HS do what he was doing in the first place (Before he stuck his damn nose in his business).

I would like to know......do people want JER or Langan back? Because if HS is fired, who does everyone want to replace him? And, it is not silly for someone to reach that conclusion, IMO, when all anyone hears is how bad Days is right now, because it's getting a 1.9. Passions has moved ino the basement of the ratings and took a 8-year lease, but that HW is just misunderstood. JER knows what he's doing, and people just don't get Passions.

The Big Six are going t be featured, fan favorites are returning this summer, and a huge story is planned, which is already in the wroks on screen. I'm choosing to enjoy that.

No, it's a fact. That is the kind of writing some here want and have since Hogan started. That is all I heard from some, including you. People don't realize the style they are desiring is the JER/Langan style of writing where we move from event to event with very little character development and growth.

Ponz-I agree with you completely. The show should be more exciting. I was just stating a point. Roman-superb post.

Oh, and Ridge, I am going to repeat what I said to Kenny. I don't accept everything but I am a fan of the show. I always find something I like about the show. Why? Because it's my show and if you are going to sit and watch a show and only complain about this and that it's not enjoyable. Period. If Days ends in 2009, I don't want to remember my last memories with it being marred by me tearing the show to shreads or complaining nonstop. Under JER the past few years, I accepted what we were getting because I honestly thought this was it and the show was done so I sat back and enjoyed. I just had a feeling it was on it's last legs. Langan was ok with me until teen invastion and Higley was awful. Had I been posting here then you would have seen me bash the show to high heaven. That was the only time in two decades of viewing that I was tempted to turn off my TV but I didn't because it's my show and I am there until the end.

Now, the show has hope and it would be in a better position had it not been for Corday. Now I know the ratings were done but even when days was good they had a hard time. The ratings hardly ever indicate quality. That isn't excusing it though. The show needs improvement and help and I am sick of people saying I put up with whatever the show hands it and so on. THAT IS AN ASSUMPTION. I am sorry if I like to enjoy my show and try to be optimistic, unlike some people who come into Days threads and only complain and bitch to no end without finding one damn positive thing to say. ow about a little opitimism or positive thinking once in awhile to balance things out? I know the show has burned people but, at some point, don't some get tired of beating this dead horse and complaining all the time/ We all want better then what we are getting. We all can and should be critical but enough is enough. I am sick to death of my opinions and views being dismissed and ignored just because I support Days through thick and thin. Look back at some episode threads in March and April. There were some days where I bashed an episode or was harshly critical yet I still found something good to say because if you can't find one positive in a show you are viewing or a show you watch regularly then how one could watch that show is beyond me.

I am seriously considering staying out of Days threads and not even posting for awhile and just fulfilling my mod and blog duties because I am actually ashamed at what some of these Days threads turn into. I am sick to death of these Hogan bashing, Hogan vs JER battle/war of words threads. It makes me depressed and sometimes even takes all the fun out of watching and discussing my show. I don't even recalling this much complaining under JER!! Now, people can either stay on topic from hear on in or the thread is closed. I am done being nice.

One or more of: Peter Brash, Beth Milstein, Sheri Anderson or Richard Allen. :)

So, then, if one of these writers are then put in chrage, we can all sit back and read post about how much they suck, Days sucks, how slow and uneven the show is, how the vets are backburned.....

I'm sorry, but if an Emmy winning HW can't do right by Days, why would anyone else work out better than him?

  • Member

Personally, I think Hogan would have better ratings if Kevin Reilly hadn't come out and said the show is gone in two years. Yeah the balance is bad on Days but it is a lot worse on other soaps but they have better ratings than Days. I bet if Frons came out and said GH was gone in two years, its ratings would sink to where Days is at.

You may well be right. There's a good chance that those writers would also be micro-managed into oblivion by Corday. My point was that Reilly & Langan are not the only alternatives.

Oh, I would love any of those writers.

Does anyone remember that Ken Corday said he wouldn't let the fans write the show? I think its about time that he at least listen to some of what we say because the show is in serious jeopardy of going off the air before '09.

We're all having a respectful debate. Nobody's hurling insults or getting out of line... what's the big deal? Often times, when threads get several pages long, the topic naturally drifts to different things, and there's nothing wrong with that. That's why it's called a discussion board. This is a DAYS thread, and we're discussing DAYS. We were asked to list which actors we thought might go, and then people decided to expand and explain why they chose who they chose. From there, other issues arose... and we're DISCUSSING things. We're not discussing American Idol, or Monique's Charm School, or Sanjaya Malakar -- we're discussing DAYS. That's completely on topic, IMO. Threads naturally progress from one topic/discussion to another, just like they do in everyday conversation. It happens, and it's not worth closing a thread over, because like I said, we're all being respectful and nobody's getting out of line.

It sounds to me like you're just frustrated with some of the negativity and want to close the thread because you're a Days fan. Something tells me that if suddenly everyone started talking about how great Hogan is, you'd be posting right along with them, loving the positivity, despite the fact that it'd be just as 'off topic' as what we're discussing right now. I'm sorry, but you shouldn't close a thread just because it depresses you or you disagree with the points people are making.

First, I think most of us here are level headed people and can engage in discussion without making things simplistic black-and-white mud slinging. If I have a criticism of Sheffer that doesn't mean I want JER or Langan back. If I say something good about Sheffer that doesn't mean I think the show is perfect. I think we can all engage in this without getting too offended, and if it gets too much for some, just take a break and come back later, nobody's going anywhere.

Now...

KA & PR are staying with outs in their contracts, yes?

I can see Martha wanting to leave, I think that'd be a loss, though that's talent-wise more than character-wise. Martha can, oh you know, actually act, which is a good thing. But I can't say I'd miss Shelle (even though I agree that that rumor about a major couple leaving is iffy).

I would not miss Peggy McCay or Frank Parker, to be honest.

I don't know if Billy Warlock's joining Y&R is going to uproot Julie Pinson, to be honest, because it doesn't seem to me that that's guaranteed to be a long-term role for him. I think Billie's biggest advantage for the show is that she isn't in an established couple so there is story left yet to write for her. I don't know if she's overstayed her welcome with most fans, obviously she has with some.

If they cut Suzanne's contract I'll pitch a fit.

The hourglass being empty is not Hogan's fault. He has plans for his characters. Everything falls into place. Fans just need to let it happen without bitching.

It's not his fault but it's happening anyway and somebody has to address that. Like, you know, the people in charge of the creative content of this show.

"Character development" is no excuse for a boring show. Excitement and depth are both essential elements to good drama and any writer worth his salt should be capable of both.

Word. And as I *think* this thread of the discussion began with JKJ and Phillip, with regard to that character I'll just say that he just simply has not been entertaining to me. Potential, sure, but if the thing I'm seeing on screen is boring, is unentertaining, then potential doesn't count for squat. I'm not saying get rid of him, but deliver the goods. The one time I loved Phillip was his and Willow's Bonnie&Clyde turn chasing Chick. And I don't even like Willow. Goes to show how good things happen when the writers just get off their butts and do something.
