Days: A Plea for Balance

Balance is greatly needed right now. ITA. However, the show needs more than balance. There's something going on beyond this. If it's budget issues, balance won't be solved. The next route to go is to make the current writing on the current used characters good and consistent. It's like asking for more than one's basket can hold. It can't be helped. The show will have to do whatever it takes to prevent bankruptcy. If it's just Corday toying with business, then he should be the one to step down. He's the one constant for Days' downfall.

I have asked over and over again about banners and how u do them and everyone has shut me out so i guess its no use asking how do u post that balance banner in my sig. I got a great feeling that i am not to well liked here.

Hey. First, right click on the banners you want to use and then click "properties". Look for the IMG link. Highlight and copy the link. Go to "My Controls" in the top menu on the right side of the screen. It's opposite the log-in info. Then, on the left menu, scroll down to the section called "Personal Profile". Click on "Edit Signature". There's a button called "Insert Image". It has a picture as its icon. Click it. Paste the link you copied before. Click "Ok". Banner's done. :)

I think it's great that you've taken initiative, but I do have to wonder where this plea was 3 months ago though. When J&M and B&H were backburnered and taken off the stove.

I've been saying this pretty much since earl-Feb when it became clear the B&H/J&M backburner stuff wasn't normal cyclical storytelling. Interestingly I was asked pretty much the same question yesterday on the sony board (coincidentally also by a J&M fan) and I pointed them to a very long post that I made there back in February which made essentially the same argument and called for S&K, B&H and J&M fans to work together and ask TPTB to pull B&H/J&M from the backburner and restore balance to the show.

Here's what I said then, back on Feb 8:

First of all, this thread isn't necessarily for fans of all three couples. It's for people who are a fan of at least one of them, and who want to see more fair treatment for all three couples. If you post here, please be respectful.

Since June, it seems like TPTB can only allow one of these couples to be in the spotlight at a time. You're backburnered or you're frontburnered - there's no in between.

Most of last year Bo and Hope were on the frontburner because of the Zack storyline, which became the Hope/Bo estrangement which led to the whole "who's the daddy" thing and culminated in Doodlebug's birth. PR and KA had more episodes than anyone else in 2006. But during that time we had entire months where J&M and S&K (after June) were either off the canvas entirely or barely used.

Since the end of December, S&K have finally gotten airtime and now B&H and J&M are barely a blip on the radar. Doodlebug is nearly two months old and she doesn't even have a name!

What possible sense does it make to feature only one supercouple at a time? All it does is piss off fangroups and lose viewers (temporarily or permanently) that Days cannot afford to lose.

The reason is rumored to be financial, but that makes no sense. These actors are contracted for two days per week, so the show has to pay them whether they use them or not. Why not use them??!

If S&K, B&H and J&M were on consistently at least two days per week, three or more when storyline and finances dictated, and if the writers gave them substantive scenes with actual meat that they and the fans could sink their teeth into, I firmly believe we'd be seeing ratings in the 2.7-3.0 territory rather and that 2.5 and 2.6 we're getting now.

Fans are frustrated. Most of us want to enjoy all the storylines but when we see the young set on every. single. day. and only get to see the vets one couple at a time, resentment can build -- both toward the younger set and toward whatever veteran couple is getting airtime at the time.

The fans want to be loyal. Reward them and watch how loyal they can be.

We understand that not every couple can have a frontburner, central story at the same time but at least attempt to give us some BALANCE on the show.

Exactly. It's sad because if Days kept the balance it had in December it would probably be up around 3rd place right now.

I like this idea but I think it is needed for all soaps.

I also don't think Steve/Kayla, Sami/Lucas, and Shawn/Belle are in any danger of falling off the frontburner. First off, Corday loves Shelle. Secondly, Sami/Lucas are directly involved in the Dimera stuff now as is Steve/Kayla. We may not get everyone all in one story together but I do think they will all be involved in stories. The only characters I worry that won't be seen as much as they should be are Kate, Billie, Chelsea, and Nick but Nick may get facetime because there seems to be some Horton stuff coming. Billie,Chelsea, and Kate I can see being backburnered along with Max because of Abby. Everyone else I think may be ok. Now if Corday has given Hogan the ok to start writing for the vets again (which it seems he did) then we may see the balance we got in December and, if so, that is great. I am thinking we may see that since that is how Hogan started out before all this nonsense happened so I am going to wait and see. I feel good about the fact that the majority of characters that should be onscreen will be.

I know Corday made a dig at Steve/Kayla and only mentioned the Big 4 in his interview but that doesn't mean nothing. Hogan loves MBE too so that is a plus. I don't think this will be a case of going from one extreme like we currently have to the next. Let's remember the only character really backburnered were John,Marlena, Bo, and Hope. Victor, Abe, and Roman could count too but they have been more supporting characters of late so I won't count them. They are only bringing the big 4 back into major story so there have to be other characters on with them as 4 people isn;'t enough so there will be others on. Anyone that has some sort of connection to the Brady/Dimera feud or is a member of either of those families will probably see facetime. Outside of that, that may be a different story. We'll see next month.

I hope this works but I doubt it will. We have been asking Frons for balance on all the ABC shows for the bast four years and all those pleas have bascially been ignored.
