I love to read. Does anyone have any favorite books or authors? I love romance novels but I also love regular fiction as well. I need some good authors. Anita Shreve is one of my favorites. I just finished the new book from the same author that wrote "The Devil Wears Prada" Excellent book btw. I will read just about anything but I need some recommendations. Any help?

I love to read. If you're into romance novels, I'm sure you've read Nora Roberts. She's not really my 'thing', but I did like Northern Lights a lot.

Ken Follett, Joyce Carol Oates, Pat Conroy, and John Steinbeck are my favorites. When I'm in the right mood, I like Stephen King, too. I actually just bought The Talisman again (loaned it out and never got it back along with probably 50 other books), and I plan on reading that soon. Here are a few books I can think of by the above authors:

Ken Follett-The Pillars of the Earth

Joyce Carol Oates-We Were the Mulvaneys

Pat Conroy-Beach Music (I've read this three times. It's AWESOME)

John Steinbeck-East of Eden.

Just some suggestions for you. I've read a ton of lesser-known authors too, but I don't want to throw too much in one post. LOL

ETA: Forgot the last 't' on Ken Follett's name, so I had to fix that! : )

Well, my all-time favorite books are

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey

Misery by Stephen King

The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy

Animal Farm by George Orwell

Intensity by Dean Koontz

Omerta by Mario Puzo

A good non-fiction book I read last year is called Blowing My Cover, an autobiography of a girl that used to work for the CIA. I don't even read non-fic but it was really good.

ooh, I love to read too.

Not too big on strickly romance, but I love fiction and such...

Anthing by Neil Gaiman...great, great, fantasy/graphic novel writer....really perhaps a GOD...currenty reading Anansi Boys...tis very good

I love Anne Rice. I've enjoyed most of her work. Something a little more risque, but has more 'romance' than some, is her Beauty series...a trilogy of erotica books about the tale of Sleeping Beauty. Those are quite good. Can't wait to read her last book, Christ the Lord

Christopher Rice, her son, is also a novelist. He's written three and they are all phenomenal. He is a great up and coming writer.

I also like Kathy Reichs. It's her life/her books' main character's life that the show Bones is based off of. Those are also good if you like that sorta stuff.

Hope those helped. :)

Pat Conroy is by far one of my favorite authors. Beach Music is such a great novel.

Blowing my Cover sounds good. I will have to look it up. I really like Truman Capote and John Steinbeck as well as Kurt Vonnegut.

Surprisingly, I never could get into Nora Roberts. I love Judith McNaught and Fern Michaels though.

If your looking for romance nicholas sparks is the way to go. I've read all of his books a few times and each time they get to me.

Janet Evanovich is another good one some of her books are a little cheesy but the are good for a good laugh. I also recently read "In her shoes and Goodnight Nobody" by jennifer Weiner and she is pretty good too.

And I say that anyone who has not read "The five people you meet in Heaven" you really need to, it makes you think and is just an incredible book. :D

Currently, I'm reading "The Godfather" by Mario Puzo. I've had it for about 3 years now but am only finishing it just now. It's really good...even better than the movie (and I LOVED all three movies).

I also recommend:

Fiction:

"Under Nights of Rain and Stars" by Maeve Binchy - very soapish

"Girl, Interrupted"by Susan Kaysen - author's memoir about her time in a psychiatric hospital. I never saw the movie but being a Psych major, I found it to be a really good read

"White Teeth" by Zadie Smith

"Gone With the Wind" by Margaret Mitchell

"Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley

Non-fiction:

"All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten" by Robert Fulghum - his writing is witty

"Another World is Possible" by David McNally - this is a book on globalization and anti-capitalism I had to read in one of my sociology classes and unlike most soc books (which are tediously boring), this one was extremely interesting. I was appalled by some of the stuff I learned by reading this
