I love JER even more for this. Your reactions are exactly what he's counting on. :)

You can't be serious

Rion, I thought you were coming around to the stinkhole that is Passions right now. Guess not.

Sometimes I wonder if you are JER or his consultant or something

The Diana thing was a cool twist none of us ever anticipated.

Yes and a disrespectful twist none of us ever want to see again.

I get excited when JER does things like this that pushes buttons and will most likely attract mainstream attention. If most people consider it in "poor taste", I'll love it. I love his subversive nature.

Well, good for you. You can love it but hardly anyone else will and the ratings will continue to tank. Hot button issues are fine but that is all JER exploits nowadays. He should be giving fans payoffs and well-written and executed stories but, hey, why do that when you can insult a beloved, deceased celebrity? South Park already did something similar and took some heat for it but it will be worse on a show like Passions.

But, hey, as long as you are enjoying it

All JER has are these shock twists. He can't rely on any good writing because he doesn't have any. There's nothing "subversive" about what he does. We're talking about a man who believed Bo and Billie and Roman and Marlena had to stay together in 1997 because they were married "under God." Subversive is something like "Popular." What JER does is just trashy camp.

Somehow, Luis a stingray bites Luis in the chest (Steve Irwin). Either Sheridan or Fancy saves him

This isn't funny, amusing or interesting.

It's sad that a show has to use someone's death as a ploy to get ratings and buzz. Obviously, the writing won't get them any.

I'm sure that Osama bin Laden was pleased with the horrified reactions he got when he flew planes into the WTC towers, but that doesn't mean I love and adore him simply for having the balls to do so.

Do you think Reilly's the ONLY writer who could come up with ideas like this? No. Anybody could. It doesn't take a genius. I could do it, you could do it, any writer could do it. They just don't go there, because not only is it insulting -- it's stupid. It doesn't make him a genius. It makes him a flop. If he had anything up his sleeve that was even halfway salable, he'd use it and make people tune in by the thousands. He doesn't have that talent anymore, though. So he resorts to ridiculous crap like this because he knows nothing else he does will get anyone's attention. The pathetic thing is that, despite all that, people STILL aren't watching his sorry excuse for a soap opera. There's no hope for Passions.

In the past, Reilly used to lure people with shock value or a gimmick... it'd get mainstream attention, and then he'd KEEP the viewers he lured by telling entertaining stories. Not everybody's cup of tea, but certainly stuff that was lightyears ahead of the crap he's churning today. He doesn't do that anymore. All you get is the gimmick, and nothing else. Plot movement, payoff... I don't understand why he's so dead set against it. But NOTHING happens on Passions. It might appear as if something's happening, but it's just not true. What we see is just a diversion to get our attention away from the fact that the REAL story we've been waiting for is on permanent pause. He'll tell a five month story only to toss something in at the very end that sends it right back to the very beginning, making the entire pathetic journey a complete waste of time. Two steps forward, ten steps back. You never get ahead. He gets you with a gimmick, and that's all. There's nothing beyond that anymore, like there used to be.

The man's a cancer. He's like an elderly loved one who was always so smart and so inquisitive, then he came down with a severe case of dementia and went slowly but surely crazy... yet some people don't even realize it, and still hang on every word as if it's the gospel.

In fact, I'm almost convinced that a vast majority of the JER cheerleaders aren't really fans at all -- they're just bored, lonely people who have nothing better to do than visit soap message boards and defend the indefensible for the sake of fun annoyance.

The Diana thing was a cool twist none of us ever anticipated.

As unexpected as a heart attack. And equally unpleasant.

JER's stunts/gimmicks used to work. Now they just cause the ratings to fall, fall, fall! I don't know why everyone's b!tching. I love this like Rion does. It brings us one step closer to PSNS' well-deserved cancellation and JER's well-deserved pink slip.

Please NBC, pull the plug on this sorry show with its sorry writer. There is NO hope for Passions.

What entertaining stories has the show told in the LAST three years let alone in the NEXT three years?

  • Member

Rion, what exactly do you consider entertaining stories because if you consider insulting the dead, outrageous shocks and gimmicks, character destruction, endless stories with no payoffs, lack of balance, overabundance of triangles, backburnering of vets, etc entertaining stories then, well, I guess Passions is the show for you but nobody else wants to be entertained like that.

Do you watch other daytime or even primetime shows? How can you even tolerate what Passions gives you much less defend it like it's the best written soap on the air?

AMEN!

Passions still has years left of entertaining stories to tell. NO CANCELLATION!

LMAO!!!!!!!!!

FARTING and ROLLING UP THE WALL LAUGHINGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly, I don't see how anyone can defend this. It's just so...wrong. PSNS (and especially JER) deserves whatever it gets if this is true. (And I wasn't even that big a fan of Steve Irwin's)

Hey NBC...instead of passionless plots, tell us what's done in the dark. Hmmm?!

ETA: Kenny, that was a brillant, insightful post on Reilly, the guy that got me hooked on soaps to begin with. Thanks and I agree 1000%.
